1974 or 1975, I believe. At some point they revised the KV-9200 and replaced the old optional "Quick Start" system (basically just a standby cathode heater) with the newer "Econoquick" system which allowed for quicker starting without the standby cathode heater. It's because everyone "knows" about it. I've noticed it here too. Back in 2008 when I started I was finding tube radios etc for pennies on the dollar. Now its near impossible PLUS Goodwill and other stores now price check EVERYTHING and anything that looks "vintage" gets marked up. Not so "thrifty" anymore.
For example. I was at a Volunteers of America once, and saw a decent looking tape deck from mid 70s or so. I look inside, and BOTH plastic capstan/reel grippers were broken. aka the whole thing was literally useless. I look at the price. $39.99 bullshit.
Lastly, this stereo console is probably the best find I'll ever have. Near mint condition, it had a blown left channel transistor when I bought it. They only wanted $25 for it. I've used it ever since and it sounds great.

Unlike Goodwill, my local Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity don't tend to overprice things. Habitat for Humanity also discounts things very quickly when they aren't selling, and even just gives the stuff away after a while.
I still find some good stuff for cheap once in a while, even at Goodwill, but the finds are very few and far between. I managed to score these Ace Staplers for a buck a piece at Goodwill this year.

If you have analog cable, then you can connect to it directly and receive a handful of channels. You are supposed to use an adapter (still available at Radio Shack and maybe some other stores) to go from the 75 ohm coax cable cable to the 300 ohm twin terminals.
The best way to do it is to use a VCR because any relatively modern VCR will be able to tune all the analog cable channels.
If you have digital cable, you could also connect a provider cable box to receive all your digital channels.

For me, its mostly obsolete. I tend to buy it for the aesthetics. Each era has its own charm.
I use the receiver for radio and tv/movie watching, but honestly I have a 5.1 receiver in the closet that I pop out for serious movie watching.
However, I do occassionally make cassette tapes for my car, since it's older and has a tape slot. I have a batch of Type II and Type IV cassettes just for that purpose.
Most of the records I have are just pure fun/basic stuff. classic rock and etc. I do have some rare releases and alternate mixes that never made it out of vinyl, those are fun to listen to.
As for the Reel to Reel. its mostly useless to me, but If I come across tape at stores I'll pick it up for fun.

You're welcome. Here's a picture of the thing you'll need for connecting modern coax cables to those old style antenna connectors. That will be your starting point for connecting various things. A VCR is the next thing to have for the cable tuner and they can also serve as an RF modulator to connect game consoles and other devices to the TV.

The surround is fine because it's not foam. It makes a metal on metal vibrating sound whenever it's playing which from what I've read is due to a misaligned voice coil. As far as I know there's no way to fix it, at least nothing reasonable for a fairly low dollar speaker.
I had a stockpile of brand new TDK SAs, Maxell XLs, Sony Type IIs, etc. which I picked up cheap before they got rare, but I recently sold them all because I figured I'd never get back into recording. Might regret it someday, but I just don't have the space to keep stuff that I might never use. I still have to get rid of a lot of stuff.

The only Type IV I ever found was a Denon which I got at Goodwill for a buck. I sold it along with the whole lot, but I think that one was worth about $15-20 by itself.
I rarely see any cassette tapes at all these days. There used to be dozens (mostly pre-recorded stuff, but occasional sealed recording tapes thrown in) there at all times. I think there will be always some enthusiasts who keep the old technology alive. Someone was happy to buy all my blank tapes and I hope they're making some use of them.

I remember seeing this website someone on /vr/ posted about the schematics to make your own authentic S/360, I mean no parts, it's not a kit, parts would have to be custom ordered, it would probably be like 50,000 but there are NONE left in existence and working condition. If someone made one and had it up and running for demos, that'd attract some people to his hackerspace or public collection or what ever if he wanted that.

Is there a name for that blue that they always used on Mainframe cases? Its not quite IBM blue, but i've seen it pretty commonly in late 60s tech images
12 G3's and 10 G4's.
As far as I can tell only major problem's 2 of the G3's have bad CRT's, everything else NetBoots just fine.
I've been playing with a G4 for the last couple days, they're a hard thing to master but once you've worked out their favorite little codecs they're fucking boss.
Have to wonder how well a G3'd fare with the video this thing's pumping.
Also, I don't know if it's just because it's been so long since I've used a ball mouse but I got my hands on a puck and it's the best bloody thing I've ever felt in my life.
