Fact 1: They are overpriced
Fact 2: They have no USP (unique selling points). It's just a generic laptop
Fact 3: Their quality is exactly average.
Thinkpad comparable to a Macbook Pro 13:
ThinkPad X240. It costs at least 1700€ in a comparable configuration. It's actually MORE expensive to get a Thinkpad than to get a Macbook.
And yet the Macbook Pro 13 still has 6-9 hours of battery life compared to the Thinkpads 3-6h and better build quality by some margin.
I literally bought a Macbook because it was the CHEAPEST laptop in that range.
But Lenovo created the only x86 tablet with 4GB of RAM.
I NEEEEEEED one.

the reason why there is so much hate on /g/ against macbooks is that it's easy to get a used chinkpad from craigslist with a 20% discount for sucking off the seller. so you can brag about spending 200$ and getting a decent C2D machine.
while macs however have a much higher resell value. a C2D macbook pro will go around 300$ or even 400$

My Macbook air 13 is built much better than my T420 was. It's thinner, faster, and gets better battery life. It was also cheaper and I can walk 5 minutes to the mall to get support for it instead of shipping it to some third world country

I'm really surprised to hear that actually. I have both a macbook and thinkpad, but my thinkpad has held up much better over time. I even have a thinkpad from maybe 15yrs ago which is still in pretty good condition cosmetically.
To make things even more interesting, my t430 was thrown across my office maybe 3 times and it has yet to break the case. Makes me wonder if certain batches have lower QA or something.

have you ever been as far as have actually decided to understand that people treat their hardware differently and it's borderline autistic to judge product quality based on pretentious postings on the internet?
I spent ages looking online at all sorts of laptop configs trying to figure out what to buy. You either end up with something cheap that reflects the price, or you spec something up that comes to £1500+ with added extras and looks like shit with one or more known flaws.
I went to a store that had the entire Lenovo range, tried them all out and they feel disgusting. The trackpads feel like McDonalds toys and the keyboards are simply offensive to type on. I was horrified, and all the other manufacturers feel exactly the same.
Went to the apple store immediately and got a 15" MBP, I don't like the keyboard but it touched all of the other boxes. New Thinkpads are trash.

The selling point is the price range man, you can get a laptop with 4gigs of ram a few hundred gigs of hdd and a third generation pentium with above average build quality for ~150, and you can get one with a built in wacom digitizer for the same damn price, the x series tablets are definitely the best value for the dollar but around 100 for a laptop that can do just about all the simple shit you want it to is not bad at all man

Trackpoint, thinklight, lid with latch, removable battery with 6 or 9 cells, 3-button trackpad, water drains on the keyboard, thinkvantage button.
These aren't things that I like, since then I'd have included more like the front-facing speakers. These are things that make Thinkpads stand out and be totally not generic. Of course a lot of these were lost with the T430.

Thinkpads are nearly indestructible. On the other hand I once had to bring back a MacBookPro 13" because of a little humidity that caused a short circuit on the keyboard, rendering the whole machine unbootable. They had to replace the entire fucking top case because Apple engineering.
