I still have the asus ux31 1600x900 after two years of constant use and it is still amazing. It is the best tech investment I've ever made.

It can run csgo and wow, and that's enough for me.

But I mostly use it for programming.

Only gaming would probably be something like Binding of Isaac or Planescape, Fallout and similar games. I absolutely need a 1080 screen though.

Ok let me expand on it then:

-The wifi drivers suck and it loses connection and reconnects all the damn time

-The battery life (advertised as 9 hours) is closer to 3 hours after 6 months of use - and the battery is not replaceable

-It comes installed with tons of bullshit and a start screen fully packed with shit "apps"

Pros: nice design - decent trackpad - light

And who gives a fuck about backlit keys? I touch type.
>>
>>45433680
>-The wifi drivers suck and it loses connection and reconnects all the damn time
Sounds like a network issue, or a bad card. Modern drivers, even MS' own out of the box drivers don;t normally have these issues

>-The battery life (advertised as 9 hours) is closer to 3 hours after 6 months of use - and the battery is not replaceable
Now that sounds like bullshit, or a damaged battery. Warranty should cover that.

>-It comes installed with tons of bullshit and a start screen fully packed with shit "apps"

high battery life, low weight, build quality, and a good quality high res screen are the features I want

If you buy something with a videocard in it you'll always sacrifice some of the above features. if you aren't going to play games this is obviously a pretty dumb move.
>>
>>45435461
Even if you are going to play games, intel hd 4000+ is relatively capable all things considered. On ultra settings? no. But low-medium it can handle most current games, which is great considering what you're trying to run it on. I have a desktop for gaming at home. I don't expect that kind of power to be portable.
>>
Theres nothing "Ultra in "Value".

If you are lazy/stupid unemployed loser then get either pavilion/used thinkpad, you dont deserve better.
>>
>>45432984
Have one of these and i would say it's pretty ok!
The absolutely worst part is the keybard and the audio jack, can handle some games but don't expect too much! if i could get a do over i would probably get the one w/o dedicated gpu and put money towards turning my current rig wich i don't have at my location to a smaller form factor.

am i the only one who actually realizes that all these shit brands have insane markup while apple gives retailers only a 5% profit margin? if anything, wouldn't this TECHNICALLY mean macbucks have greater value/money? i mean they sell it near what they buy it at. asus is marked up to like 35%.

So what's the best? Thinkpad W/T/X-series?

>it's a non-design

How? It minimalist. Is it not a design because it isn't overdesigned?

>not since 2011 deal wih it, the catchers have catched that + non tuch screen

So which laptop again has a better touchpad? Also touch is awkward on normal laptops.

>same shitty chicklet like any modern laptop, have the advantage to be cheap and quite hard to kill

Still has a better feel than others. Not all chiclet keyboards are the same.

>like all the major PC OS, GNU/linux has it's advantages, windows is great too

Well I guess it's subjective but it does handle scaling the best which is important with high ppi displays.

>like any other laptop it will decline afer 2 years and a half

But it still starts with more battery life than others.

>For instance, the surface pro 3 kicks it in every way

It's a tablet. Has a low res screen and a non-rigid keyboard with a worse touchpad. Also less ports.

LENOVO YOGA PRO 2-3
>>
>>45438693
To clarify my reasoning here:

14" fullHD screen
Up to 16GB memory
500 GB SSD possible
intel i7-4760HQ
>those iris pro 5200 graphics
price is good (~1400 dollars for that)
Lightweight
Comes without windows (this saves on the price as well, I have my own windows install here so why pay for one extra?)

I ordered mine yesterday.

For people thinking about the keyboard issue, that's long fixed.
