When was the last time you burned a CD / DVD?
>>
>>45423953
About an hour ago. I even have a couple DVD-RW disc's so that I don't waste media to things like firmware updates and such.
>>
>>45423953
I can't even remember to be honest.
>>
About 90 minutes ago. frozen dvd for my daughter. Yeah I burn shit. I burn movies and linux distros. I trust a disc more than I do USB
>>
about 3 hours ago. Had to burn a CD for DBAN to format some shit hard drive I found in a laptop that was thrown away.
>>
I burned a Debian Testing install DVD a few days ago for an old laptop, but that was the only one I've done in several months
>>
>>45423953

>>
I haven't moved my PS2 collection to an HDD (mostly due to shitty performance) so I've had to burn some DVDs for it in the recent past.
>>
>>45424198
10/10
>>
>>45423953
Like 5 days ago, burned a disc for someone who still owns a DVD player. Usually I use them for firmware updates, small bootable operating systems, etc.
>>
>>45423953
yesterday, made restore set for pc I fixed.
>>
>>45423953
Roughly a week ago as I make monthly-backups of shit I download to keep my storage-drive from filling up. Got 1 50-pack spindle full of games/movies/music/etc from over the years.
>>
>>45423953
Its been more than 6 months, had to do it for a college project.
>>
Today. I finished editing my mixtape.
>>
>>45423953
Probably a couple years ago when I made my 4:3 TV-quality anime backups.
>>
I burned a bunch of cds for my truck
>>
>>45423953
I'm a little overdue, but I'm currently storing my backups on DVDs.
>>
>>45423953
last night, arch install cd, not even kidding
>>
i think i burned a gamecube game a few years ago. i was going to burn one again a week ago but then i realized dolphin runs perfectly fine on my pc.
>>
>>45423953

>>
yesterday

>>
>>45424369
get a spare HD man, come on
>>
Bluray is a pretty good backup medium.
>>
About a week ago. I burned a Windows 7 recovery bootdisk for a client.
>>
Few years?

Look, after working with VMs waiting for DVDs to install is torture. I keep any software I use all the time on 8gb USB3 sticks.

Look, in theroy it would be useful to have a library of DVD bootdisks of a wide range of software, and cheap. But I always end up not having them when I need them, or having to install something on a computer without a USB drive, and DVDs are slow... so I just can't be arsed.

It was a photomontage and music made by my sister about our grandmother who passed away on the 13th last month.

I found out yesterday my CD drive doesn't work anymore. Who knows how long it's been like this.
>>
little more than 2 years ago

>>
>>45423953
Last year. I do it rarely now, thanks to USB flash drives being all sorts of handy.
>>
>>45423953
>>
>>45423953
It's been quite a while, I think I was burnign a DVD for a class project. I rip CDs/DVDs on a regular basis though. Usually to get PS2 games on my PC to emulate.
>>
>>45423953

>>
>>45428358
You had hitherto been using a 15 year old OS? and a modern OS works on your hardware?
>>
>>45423953
20 minutes ago, can't find a distro worth a damn to work on my Thinkpad R50. Windows XP finally seems to see the HDD.
>>
>>45428370
>You had hitherto been using a 15 year old OS
Yes. I had no reason to change. Everything just worked. I only upgraded for security reason. Every program I used and use now still would've worked because *Nix programs have relatively little bloat and feature-creep (well the ones that Volkerding endorses, the standard lot, like textual programs, emacs, et cetera, none of that new age hipster garbage)

>a modern OS works on your hardware

Yes, no feature creep means no inane hardware requirements. I've upgrade over the years, buying new and replacement parts. This computers like the ship of Theseus, but the motherboard and the case are still the same.

>>
>>45428575
what'd u do?
>>
>>45423953

A few months ago. I archive old data on DVD-R since it's the cheapest way to have long term storage.
>>
About 2 weeks ago. My car is old as shit so it doesn't have an aux port, I just burn a bunch of cheap CDs instead of shelling out for a new car stereo.
>>
>>45428604
you could get cheap 32gb flash drives and they'd last forever if you don't use them, dvd's not so long.
>>
>>45428634
you could get a aux to fm transmitter....
>>
>>45428648

those are more expensive than a pack of 50 CDs and I hear theyre unreliable

Like 2007 when I was trying to get NFS for free

And I did get it for free. Me and my bro spent like 5 days trying to burn the right files cause there was no tutorial from the site we got the bootleg version from but it was well worth it.
>>
>>45428575
Found this one out on my own old crap. Had to go out and buy CDs.
>>
>>45428674
of course if you keep a dvd sealed in a container out of light it will probably last longer then 10 years, i've never see one fail. I just like the concept of rewritable storage, don't like keeping junk.
>>
>>45428641
How does a DVD in a case that's not touched go bad any faster than a micro chip?
>>
Like ten minutes ago, I don't have any game system other than PS2 so i burn games for that every few days to try out a new one
>>
>>45423953
2011, when I got my first laptop without an optical drive.
>>
2009, burned Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya on DVD.
>>
At least 4 years ago. Holy fuck, those things are so dead.

Anyone using an optical drive is a dinosaur.

>and yet "modern" consoles still use them
>for fuck's sake

>>
Last week. I burn cds for my car
>>
>>45423953
couple days ago, always get my sister 20-30 CDs for christmas as she has a CD player and likes listening to music.
>>
Yesterday. Brand was banana-cd.

I didn't pick it.
>>
>>45424049
>2014
>not using a bootable usb.

I hate putting music on my phone. I'd rather listen to music in my car through the CD player instead of fondling my phone and wasting its battery life. I don't listen to music through my phone when I'm at home. If I'm listening to something, it's most likely a video, an audiobook, or a podcast coming from my pc. So I burn cds with a fast external drive. Even my uncle comes over and asks me to burn a few songs for him. Cd-rs are dirt cheap now and EVERYBODY has a cd player, dvd player, or a car with a cd drive. I don't see how they're impractical.
>>
Yesterday. I found a newly made custom installer meant to make Star Wars Episode 1 Racer compatible with modern systems, and the installation went without a hitch, but then launching the game would prompt a message asking to insert the corrent CD, which I tried to fix by burning the image to a physical disc, but the problem persisted so I gave up.

About 3 years ago, when I tried to install Linux on a MacBook, and didn't know about [alt]. Before that... I have no clue. Must've been 4 or 5 years ago.

>>
>>45423953
yesterday, CloneZilla bootdisc.
>>
It's been at least a few months. Most of the time, a USB drive can do whatever a DVD can.

The Windows disk and driver disk for my laptop were used maybe a month ago.
>>
two weeks ago... had to burn 100 for my bands EP release

>>
>>45423953

I found my copy of startwars: special edition on VHS yesterday.

I got rid of my VHS player for a DVD player.
I got rid of my DVD player for a BRD player.
I got rid of my BRD player for streaming.

I miss the fuzzy lines ;_;.

There's only one christmas album you'll ever need in your life.

That, and Home Alone on VHS.

Realistically I have no clue who holds the rights to the game nowadays, but Lucasarts are dead and Disney will never in a million years care about old Star Wars games again when they can just continue pumping out animated Clone Wars garbage and LEGO kids games.
>>
>>45438476
>>45438629
Also there's this >>>/vr/2100165 guy linking a Mega download for the game that appears to have worked for him, I'm gonna download it tomorrow when I'm on non-datacapped internet.
