If I put it on the outside edges of the desk I'd be in the same situation.
There's two more pairs of speakers on top of the desk to help the obscured highs and slightly obscured mids. Lows are fine.

I'm actually more worried about degradation or problems it already had before being shipped, rather than problems that would occur during shipping. I know from experience that people absolutely can't be trusted when it comes to describing the condition of a computer monitor. Even if a person is honest, chances are they don't know how to properly test a CRT monitor for every possible kind of problem they can have. Many people seem to be completely oblivious to problems which are extremely obvious to me.
With eBay, you almost always have to ship the item back to the seller at your own expense in order to get a refund. There's absolutely no way I can afford that risk with how much it costs to ship a CRT monitor these days.
