ITT: We shill the fuck out of our favorite programs.
I'll start with a classic, CCleaner.
Why is CCleaner awesome? It cleans the crap outta your computer. Temporary files, cache, etc., and can give your computer a bit of a speed boost. It also can fix registry issues, and gives you convenient access to all of the processes that run at startup. Plus your browser addons, AND Add or Remove Programs!
Shit's nice.
>>45289066
Botnet.
>> speed boost
Thanks for sharing.
lmao are you fucking gay?
>>45289077
Goddammit /g/.
>>45289136
Nope. Just trying to start a thread about sharing useful programs/utilities.
>>45289066
Useless placebo.
>>45289066
pycharm
PyCharm
PYCHARM
FUCKING PYCHARM
WHY ARE YOU NOT USING PYCHARM???
>>45289085
Of course it does - it increases the rotational velocidensity of the .jpeg files used to render the images in the computer, both in Lunix and WinDOS.
Let me really quickly shill for emacs
If you aren't using emacs, you don't know what you're missing.
>>45289203
>placebo
Nope. It's a convenient tool to clean temp files and the registry. Just this.
Vim
iTunes
>>45289247
Explain. Doesn't seem all that great to me.
>>45289227
>>45289250
Tell me why should I use these shits other than Notepad or Notepad++.
>>45289292
The best part of it is that there exists an extension to do basically anything, which means a familiar environment with which to do everything.
Oh, and everything is controlled by the keyboard. And the kill ring is infinitely superior to the more standard clipboard system.
Plus, emacs doesn't choke on huge files, even when searching them. And emacs can handle editing over ssh, which is something almost no other editor can do.
>>45289066
infrarecording.org
simple, yet useful
also, you can find loads of free/open source software for windows by simply googling "open source <something>" where <something> is, for example, "cd recorder"
>>45289203
>placebo
Its an easier and more comprehensive version of Disk Cleanup at the very least.
Also, its startup progam list shits on MSConfig.
SuperAntiSpyware Portable
You can run from a flash drive, and SAS usually catches viruses that my Malwarebytes misses. Plus since it's portable and not running a real-time scanner, it won't conflict with your anti-virus of choice.
Also, Kaspersky's TDSSkiller kills most rootkits, but I'd still recommend some boot CD for those.
RemoveWAT removes the Windows Activation shit, so you can 'activate' a Windows OS without a key.
>>45289226
b-but /g/ hates python ;__;
Ares Galaxy
Fucking awesome, open source, with built-in video and audio player, chat and torrent client while being tiny as fuck, less than 10mb in your hard drive and around 8mb on ram.
Even if it is multi-purpose, it is the best torrent client IMO... fast, light, and completely adless
>>45289066
OP, I use CCleaner in combination with Revo Uninstaller Free Version.
Revo Uninstaller is useful for uninstalling stubborn as fuck programs that like to leave behind a lot of bullshit that sometimes I feel CCleaner isn't enough to remove it from my PC.
>>45289411
>best torrent client
By which of course you meant to say transmission
>>45289066
sshfs, the best cloud
Let me also really quickly shill for mpv, the best media player ever.
Bulk Rename Utility is mai waifu
>>45289321
>The best part of it is that there exists an extension to do basically anything, which means a familiar environment with which to do everything.
There's software to do nearly anything for Linux, Windows, OSX, and Android too. So Emacs is an okay OS.
>Plus, emacs doesn't choke on huge files
You haven't seen a huge file yet.
> And emacs can handle editing over ssh, which is something almost no other editor can do.
Except Vim. Oh, Vim can do it without special configuration, unlike Emacs, so I guess Emacs wins? Gotta spend time doing that forced configuration.
>>45289510
Can it rename folders?
>>45289517
>special configuration
Not that I've ever had to do
>>45289493
I think you meant MPC-HC bro
>>45289319
A steep learning curve means you can get higher. Simple math.
>>45289528
It renames everything.
Hirens BootCD
and
Combofix
I can't live without either in my life.
>>45289564
then i should use COBOL
>>45289321
>And emacs can handle editing over ssh, which is something almost no other editor can do.
>>45289517
>Except Vim
And nano and pico, and even GUI editors if you turn on X11 forwarding, although that's usually less convenient.
>>45289582
Replace COBOL with asm and my point still holds.

She may be referring to misconfigured backspace keys, which is an issue I've had.
>>45289602
I only use the 3 section for my HTPC. Works perfectly.
>>45289066

>>45289410
They may or may not know what they are missing.
>>45289537
Emacs relies on a hack to recognize your shell prompt on the other end of SSH. So there's a pretty good chance on any non-out-of-the-box config that Tramp will shit itself like a pussy.
Vim just uses scp.
List of words /g/ doesn't know the meaning of:
-botnet
-shill
-bloat
-
What else?
Anyway, as for good software: pic related. I don't really like the look or functionality of the tabs but I just turned that off, so no big deal. No other complaints I can think about; it works perfectly.
>>45289602
>Beaners
>>45289411
People still use ares?, i remember like 10 years ago it had chat rooms, and 99% of them were pedos trying to lure in young kids. This is where Chris Hanson finds people.
>>45289678
Agreed
I like the fact that they are still working on it (it doesnt seem like the kind of software you'd expect someone to update often...) but those tabs look pretty shitty
It looks almost as bad as any loonix program
>>45289678
10/10 pdf reader. It's like 3mb and never needs to update because why the fuck does a program that reads text from pdf's need to update anyway.
I used to use foxit reader but it shits all over my freedom.
>>45289624
What is that even supposed to do? The whole thing is a clusterfuck of shit.
>>45289735
I'm sorry your tiny rat brain can't even comprehend a simple renaming tool.

Livestreamer
I made a small powershell script to allow me to copy the link of a youtube video/stream and just click on a shortcut on my taskbar to play the video, without having to deal with youtube or twitch's shitty html5/flash.
>>45289735
Turns shitty filenames into readable filenames.
Ultra VNC
It may not be the best, could use a few more features but its great and installed on all of my machines.
Runner up: Easy Duplicate Finder 2.2.4(freeware version)
Visual Studio
What can i say? other than the best IDE ever made
>Bulk Rename Utility is clusterfuck
Try ReNamer.
Drag/Drop ui to only rename the files you want, adds rules so you can do things in order (delete this first, then do this, etc...)
Very intuitive to use. While I'm sure bulk rename has its uses, it's still fucking confusing as hell just looking at it, and it's got bullshit ads.
internet explorer

MPV because of --loop-file.
It's helped me stay erect for two days straight now.
Greenshot is the best fucking screenshot program I have ever seen/used. There are only 2 other screenshot programs that come close, one of which is russian, and I can't remember the names.

I trimmed the intro bit off and now watch it as a perfect loop. It never gets old.
Does anyone remember the all seeing eye? I think that was the name of it I got it on a cd it was ment for windows 2000 and it monitored all connections that try to ping you system and does a whois query on them. It would create logs of all ip addresses trying to connect to your computer.
Can't find it anywhere to save my life.
>>45290044
I think you'll have to enable scripts to be run on powershell, It's just one command but I forgot how to do it.Add-Type -Assembly PresentationCore
$clipboard = [Windows.Clipboard]::GetText()
livestreamer $clipboard best --player-passthrough http --player-no-close
exit
Assuming livestreamer is in your PATH, and that you always want best quality.
I then created a shortcut on my taskbar with the following target%SystemRoot%\system32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -Window hidden -File "[FULL PATH TO SCRIPT]"
>>45289678
The only bad thing I can say about Sumatra is that it's ugly as sin if you open the program instead of a file.
>>45289806
Visual Studio may be good, but Code::Blocks has most of the same features for C/C++ and Fortran.
It even allows you to move the modules around, such as the debugger, the files, etc. and has intelliSense-type technology. checkSum();
