Are there any darknets other than freenet that actually host websites on the network itself instead of just obfuscating the IP of the server that content is hosted on?
After the recent shutdown of many hidden services, now would seem to be the time to implement a completely decentralized anonymous network. We need a system with better anonymity, no centralized points of failure, distributed databases with fully malleable encryption, and public key cryptography immune to quantum attacks if there is ever to be any hope of stopping the government's internet censorship.

i2p is going to get popular really soon.
I believe Perfect Dark has a built in BBS similar to newsgroups on Usenet.
Perfect Dark works in a somewhat similar fashion to Freenet 0.5, but it's Japanese only and proprietary at that.

But it is still just an anonymous tunnel with servers to be seized on the other end.

Isn't perfect dark very imperfect? Like completely broken now?

No. There were three arrests on it and the last one happened like 5 years ago.
All of them were likely from user error.

"The Japanese security firm NetAgent is claiming (2010) that they have created software capable of deciphering encrypted information such as the IP address of the original computer uploading a file as well as the file name and other details of Perfect Dark."
Plus it is still just anonymous filesharing. You can't put a website on it as anything other than a static page.

Like I said, the last case of anyone being caught on PD was almost 5 years ago and it's still going strong today. It even has CP on it from what I hear.

That's true for any sort of decentralized system along the lines of Freenet and Perfect Dark.

It is not a fundamental limitation of anonymous networks in general though.
For example, homomorphic encryption makes it possible to perform operations on encrypted data without knowing anything about the content. Computers in an anonymous network could host and perform math on a database with this.
perfect dark makes me sad
i know my old obscure cartoon porn hoarder buddies from winmx are on there, but i can't play with them with 50kb/s upload
