Windows 8 is the exact same shit as Windows 7 which is the exact same shit as Windows Vista which will all be the exact same shit as Windows 10. The only people who lose out from a full screen start menu are the sort of people who use windows for 8 years without learning how to use search and the who like to multitask while looking up shit in their four column start menu. I switch from 7 and work to 8 at home and the only thing that I even notice, much less bothers me, is having to deal with the godawful pre-8 task manager.

The reason I installed Win8.1 is because it removed the Windows 95 - style start menu. It was about fucking time for that old shit to die. Hierarchical menus are a thing of the past, they make no sense in a UI which is supposed to be the primary way of launching programs.

Yea 8.1 under the hood stuff, is pretty fucking great, and defintely better than 7. Also, in 8.1 they calmed down the UI stuff quite a bit, defaults to desktop for mouse and keyboard etc. Between pinning apps and search you never need to open the metro screen, and thats without installing Start8 etc. W10 will make this even better.
