I've had this with my crappy Sennheiser HD201 and this Sony MDR-ZX750BN.

Also my frame is as flat and thin as possible, only the parts which touch my ears are thicker, otherwise they'd just slice into my ears.

Buy larger headphones. I never had a problem with my DT770, Q701 or HD800. It might depend on your glasses too, I only tried with my one pair.

Does Koss have anything in the $200-300 range worth talking about?

I'm not one for brand loyalty, but their HQ is only a few miles away and that seems nice if I'd need warranty service.
>>
>>45183105
Not really. There's the esp/950 which occasionally goes on sale for $600-700 or so but that's about it for the high end.

Ah, too bad. I'm still hovering in the mid range, but maybe I'll keep them in mind if I get beyond that.
>>
I'm gonna repeat this post in case anyone else here can give any other input.

I can't decide what to pick from the sub $200 list around $99 for wearing and using in public.
the Sony MDR-V6, Grado Prestige Series SR80e, Audio-Technica ATH-M40x, and NVX Audio XPT100 all look very nice, what will sound the best and be the most comfortable for extended periods when I listen to stuff like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jQok0wlkdk and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gW1WVVavw8

someone from the last thread mentioned the mdrs but someone else linked a picture of someone wearing them and their ears bleeding, I don't know what that's supposed to mean and whether or not it should turn me away.

1. i dont wear headphones all day, only when im playing games or when other people are around me - if i did Id get something more expensive as the 668s are a little sweaty around the pads

2. they leak a good bit of sound

3. 668 are not the same as 681

Hey /g/

I need new headphones for muh vidya. I was using a pair of Seinheiser headphones, which worked fine, but are getting old.

I bought a pair of Seinheiser 350 SE's, but when I plugged them in, it sounded like I was playing inside a tin can. My sound card can apparently can handle the headphones.

I was considering sending them, back, but might try to "burn them in" first before doing that. If I send them back, I know the Seinheiser 558s are highly regarded, how good are they for gayming, specifically CSGO.

Maybe I should cave in to buy these and pair them with the upcoming flagship Schiit stuff. As far as I can see it's the least flawed flagship headphone.
>>
>>45188781
You could do that or get a chaper schiit solid sate amp and a schiit tube amp for variation.

>>
>>45188781
The flagship schiit stuff is certainly different designed from the typical approaches, but does it do it better. From the objective approach, the probable answer will be no.
The only structural issue with the hd800 is the cable connector, tends to be frail. Senn charges too much for their cables, could be better to go aftermarket for that.

EQ the 5-6KHz spike downward by 3dB, nudge up the lower treble a tad, and you have something pretty damned flat.

Run the signal through any half decent sub, the sub should filter out all the HF anyway. Can be done digitally if you want.
Head tracking will be needed to ensure that the visual match up with the audio, to strengthen the illusion of location.
Carmack doesn't mention that headphone localization needs to tailored to the listener. A mic at the ear entrance will suffice for capturing the timing and phase differences, a little more SPL equalization can be done to taste.
>>
>>45193197
Why do most games have really poor headphone modes? They either have a really poor hrtf or just reduce the stereo width to make it more comfortable.
The only reason to have a soundcard these days is for good virtual surround.

>Xiaomi Pistons V2.1 silver

How can anyone like these is beyond me.
They're 22$, they're neatly packed, they're nice, but.

- Clip doesn't serve a purpose, who the fuck clips their earbud cable
- METAL THINGY MAKES MY EARS HURT AND SCRATCHES THEM, ALSO NOT COMFY AT ALL
- Eartips are generic, okay, but the small is too small, medium too big, don't even know what they were trying with the 3fold L one.
- Cable is very nice, but I don't get the carrying case and how to fit your earbuds in it at all, nice thing to play around with I guess, can see the earbuds get damaged though.

Ended up selling them for 50% more than I purchased them for.

I get the idea totally, but they just don't fit for me at all, probably a period of getting used to them needed, but I really don't get all the people shilling this.

I mean the 8 dollar HJE120 Panasonics (bestseller on Amazon for years now) blow these out of the water when it comes to ergonomics and just working, and durability. No stupid gimmicks, premium packaging, you get them and you use them until they die (forever basically).

I don't get anyone who spends money on IEM's in general, all it takes is one fucker to pull the cable on the side and it's up for repair.

Fuck that.

I'm a VR enthusiast and I have to say that headphone audio within a virtual reality environment or system, like the Oculus Rift, will be quite good as far as today's standards go. I remember trying out a demo of the sound software Oculus VR purchased and it was pretty good at simulating binaural sound. If you add an external subwoofer, then even better. However I guess that if you had to use speakers, it might be an option to fix the orientation of the player's in-game ears.

>>
>>45194344
as far as I know they're basically identical to the 668b besides the headband. so if you can deal with eqing the highs down some, they're a great headphone for acoustic music and/or gaming.
>>
>>45195524
I would say v6, but since you game I would get the 681 evo or the 668b. v6 has a very narrow soundstage, not good for gaming. 681evo is a great all-rounder, but the bass is a bit boomy and the soundstage isn't as wide as the 668b. the 668b is amazing for classical, not so much for "modern" music, you don't get the thumping bass like with the other two (still powerful tough), but it is very detailed and has a very wide soundstage. the 668b is very open though so sound leak-isolation will be an issue.
you should also look at the xpt 100, m40x, and the k240. never tried those though.
