I've known a CS student to pull shit like that.

He ended up buying me a bunch of beer (like a six-pack every day) to warm me up to the idea of copying him my source code. Told him that he'd need at least a keg to get me to consider it. He said it was far too much and got pissed because of the money he wasted on my beer.

Dumbass didn't realize that I was offering to do it for about $75 when he spent twice that buying less beer in six-packs.

It doesn't work everywhere, not that you seem to care. I also imagine that whoever uses it wouldn't care either and probably wouldn't notice when it messes up or is passed a larger number than it is meant to handle, not that the C code would complain.

as I said, C-int, that's 32 values, possible, that's quite doable, and the compiler will warn/truncate the value should you pass something to big

>I'm a Lisp programmer. I probably don't need to say more about why I would dislike this.
Yeah that's a problem with the functional programming style
it's focus is fucked up
and imho they aren't even better readable
they may look more elegent or nicelly made, once you worked your way through them, but eh

>as I said, C-int, that's 32 values, possible, that's quite doable, and the compiler will warn/truncate the value should you pass something to big
I try not to learn much about C, but an int can change size based on the architecture. It's not as portable as you think.

>>I'm a Lisp programmer. I probably don't need to say more about why I would dislike this.

You think Lisp is functional? Heh.

I haven't looked into lisp, but from all I have heard it is

well it was explained to me, that the focus for functional programming languages is readability and actual correctness by beeing close to the math representation
>The C isn't a mess?
C can be a mess, but for people actually working with and understanding computers it's pretty intuitive, since it works mostly like the CPU
>They also work everywhere you put them, which is important.
everywhere they are supported you mean
that would be java, but java is slow as shit aswell
>>

That's contradictory.

>I haven't looked into lisp, but from all I have heard it is
It's multiparadigm.

>well it was explained to me, that the focus for functional programming languages is readability and actual correctness by beeing close to the math representation
How is that a bad focus? How is correctness a bad focus?

>C can be a mess, but for people actually working with and understanding computers it's pretty intuitive, since it works mostly like the CPU
I'll use assembly for that purpose. C isn't quite how the computer actually works at all.

>everywhere they are supported you mean
>that would be java, but java is slow as shit aswell
I'm confused by this.
>>
>>44950972
>That's contradictory.
no it wont be, since there is no reason for it
but according to standard it is still possible
>It's multiparadigm.
yeah just looked it up, I haven't done anything with lisp, only seen /g/tards arguing that it's better, mostly in the functional cirklejerk
>How is that a bad focus? How is correctness a bad focus?
it's bad since it's slow
this increases hardware demands a fuckton
it isn't inherently bad to be correct
that's the ultimate value for algorithms
but if they are just plain stupid slow, compared to what's doable, that's stupid
it's to extrem, think RMS-extrem
>I'll use assembly for that purpose. C isn't quite how the computer actually works at all.

I would rather be right than fast. There's no point in arriving to an incorrect answer more quickly than the correct answer.
>it isn't inherently bad to be correct
It isn't bad at all.
>that's the ultimate value for algorithms
It should be.
>but if they are just plain stupid slow, compared to what's doable, that's stupid
>it's to extrem, think RMS-extrem
The problem is that nothing ever needs to need this speed that comes from all of these halfbaked functions and techniques.
When you pile all of this together, you end up a house of cards that falls down.
>whut? because I have helpers for loops and function calls?
Things like that, yes. The computer doesn't actually work with those. C isn't how the computer actually works, assembly is.
