just don't feel bad if they turn you down
>>
>>44612249
Yes, why not? Current Google employee here, posting from my work laptop
>>
>>44612466
how hard is it to get into? do you need much experience?
>>
>>44612493
Well they aren't retarded so they won't expect you to have much experience if you're fresh from school.

The interviews are your standard problem solving stuff, so you have to be good at that, which may be harder for people who didn't major in CS/went to a school with a good program.
>>
Oh and let me add, if they think you're more or less a good candidate they will most likely hire you cause they still have to grow in terms of man power and they don't want to risk you going to the other tech companies.
>>
>>44612249
Depends on what you enjoy doing
>>
>>44612593
I heard the opposite, that they have a very high bar and they prefer losing some good candidates rather than hiring a bad one accidentally
>>
>>44612466
Pics or gtfo
>>
>>44612648
Well yeah maybe when I said more or less I meant that you don't have to be perfect to be hired

>>44612654
I'm at home right now
>>
>>44612692
How many hours do you work a week?
>>

Oppertunities for a network engineer?
(Also, I kinda want to work for google tokyo)
>>
>>44612816
what do you do
>>
>>44612824
Network infrastructure is a big area inside of Google, probably the most important of the infrastructure branches. There's a lot of cool custom stuff. I don't know if the hiring process is different. See here:

https://www.google.com/about/careers/search#t=sq&q=j&li=10&jc=NETWORK_ENGINEERING&

Positions in the smaller offices are pretty limited, though once you're inside it's only a matter of managing to get transferred to a team stationed there.

Write automation software

>Write automation software
So testing? Or something else?
>>
>>44612249
another Googler here. I would say yes, but apply to other places too.

Pros:
>smart and nice co-workers
>huge variety of projects going on (although your ability to shift teams depends on many factors)
>great internal tooling
>the infrastructure, both software and hardware, that Google is built on is amazing.

Cons:
>Not as into open source as you might think. Chances are your work will not be open source.
>Entry level jobs can be boring. Google puts very good engineers on boring projects, since even boring projects have to get done.
>Internal tooling is great, but not open source, so you will not be able to transfer the skills to another company or a startup.

Will you let more like this happen or will you forget us?
>>
>>44613045
No, like automating processes, for example rollout procedures
>>
>>44613107
>implying
>>
>>44613057
Also,

Cons:
Google is huge, nowadays it's impossible to reach the higher positions
>>
>live in mountain view
>google employees everywhere
if I sit in a restaurant or coffee shop alone working on computer people come by and ask me what I'm working on
>i dont even work in tech
>>
>>44613161
Oh and

Cons:
A sizable proportion of the engs are autistic as /g/
>>
>>44612249
I interviewed with them two weeks ago and they haven't even called to tell me to fuck myself yet.
>>
>>44613057
I worked as a contractor for Google once, integrating Zagat stuff after the acquisition. I figured you just outsourced all the boring work.
>>
>>44613208
>A sizable proportion of the engs are autistic as /g/
This applies to tech everywhere though. Are they better or worse than average?

>>44613210
Same here, they had me take some pre-screening personality survey two weeks ago and no response. It doesn't seem to be their strong point
>>
>>44613057
>>44612466
What is your guys' education level? CS I assume?
>>
>>44613267
They were real good about communicating leading up to the last interview (there were two). I had two recruiters emailing me daily about various things, one even called me the night before to wish me luck. Since, nothing. I guess they just don't like to be bearers of bad news.
>>
>>44613264
nah not much outsourcing happens at all.

>>44613321
Phd, I'd rather not say the field.
>>
>>44613347
Damn, what was your undergraduate and master's in?
>>
>>44613323
Everything HR, PeopleOps or whatever you want to call it at Google is abysmal
>>

>>

How culturally diverse and racially rich is googles workforce?
>>
>>44613461
Most of the Google reps at my school's career fair were women and the hiring panel they led the week after was entirely led by women. They seem to be trying pretty hard
>>
>>44613461
Lots of people from all continents except Africa, sadly. Virtually no women in eng, though that's a problem across the whole field.
>>
>>44613479
Lol, dude that's Recruiting 101, hire young women to do it.
>>
>>44613492
More Antarcticans than Africans? That's crazy.
>>
>>44613507
>implying you can actually be Antarctican
>>
>>44613492
How is that a problem
>>
>>44613527
It's hard to be inclusive when your products are designed solely by white men
>>
>>44613566
But only white men make the good stuff, everyone else is only when you want to save money.
>>
>>44613577
No, sorry, your users decide what the "good stuff" is and half of them are women
>>
>>44613347
>Phd, I'd rather not say the field.

Cryptography,
Energetic reactions,
Nuclear physics,
or Dragon Dilldos?
>>
>>44613611
if he's a phd at google it's likely machine learning of some sort
>>
>>44613636
pitty - wanted to ask about removal of dragon dildo...
>>
>>44613107
but what is it?
>>
>>44613690
machine learning has many practical applications with regards to dragon dildos, such as predicting the largest one you can use given your weight, height, gender, and years of experience
>>
>>44613611
>>44613636
>>44613690
Just a privacy thing (I know, the irony).

>>44613577
>>44613606
My own opinion is that diversity is overrated. Apple's products kick our ass in terms of usability, but they are also full of cis straight White males. Also the biggest growing market is Asia, and tech has plenty of Asians.

But I also think this is mainly a political issue. If you believe the mainstream narrative regarding racism etc., then you are also likely to believe that we are missing out on something by mainly having White males (a lot of Asians and Indians too though).
>>
>>44613778
das raysiss
>>
>>44613606

Just because it's made by a man doesn't mean women won't use it.

See cars, computers, dildos, everything ever, etc...

This whole forced cultural integration/diversity requirements thing is the cancer killing technology

poltards scared the google engineers...
fucking faggots
>>

I wonder if /pol/ ever realize how off-putting they are to anyone who's remote well-adjusted/not-completely-fucking-insane. I bet the virginity rate on /pol/ is higher than /r9k/.

>>

I'm >>44613057 and I agree with the poltard. The other engineer believed in diversity but I don't (I also wrote >>44613778 ).

Google always seemed like a company that wants you to live at work. One of those colorful company that makes their workers think they're cool and hip, while at the forefront of social development. When in reality they're a glorifed slavecamp. I just get that feeling.
>>
>>44614719
I feel like some people are NEET and allergic to work. Try being self-employed. 40 hours a week is nothing.
>>
>>44614739
I do work, I'm an engineer at a big 3 firm.
>>
I have an interview next week for a s/w engg. position. Any tips?
>>
>>44615607
Whatever you rated yourself highly on the initial screening, be prepared to back it up. And know you asymptotic complexity.

Slightly related, should I try pic related guys? Does anyone have experience working with them?
>>
>>44616754
Now that is what you call one of the most racially diverse firm(no surprises ;-))
In terms of job prospects dont expect it to be cutting edge work(it will be challenging of course but not leading forefront of technology)
There will be lot of independence to do your work and thing you will learn will be more management and leadership inclined than technology.
If you are looking for combination of finance, leadership and some technology this is your place to be.
>>
>>44612576
I want to work at Google, but I'm going into aerospace. Is everyone there a CS/CS-related major?
>>
Is 25 too old to graduate and get accpeted?
>>
>>44612576
>Well they aren't retarded so they won't expect you to have much experience if you're fresh from school.
But are you supposed to be the kind of guy that has tons of personal projects that make him as experienced as someone that had worked for years in the industry?
