Windows font rendering is superior.
What's the deal with the blurriness on linux, it makes it look like a fisher price OS with headache inducing shit smeared in lines across a page.
... and that is if Xorg starts without any hassle.
>>44086892
You have to be kidding me. Windows font rendering is complete shit.
I can tell when a screenshot is from Windows solely from that distinctive shitty font rendering.
>>44086744
>>linux has shit font rendering
Oh really?
>>44086932

>>this is what freetards actually believe
Your problem is that you still think this is 1995 and we Linux people still need to copy fonts from MSWindows and that the Font Deuglification FAQ is still current.
>>44087054
this should do it, too.
Windows font
~/.gtkrc-2.0
gtk-xft-antialias=1
gtk-xft-hinting=1
gtk-xft-hintstyle="hintfull"
gtk-xft-rgba="none"

I'm primarily a Windows users and have been since I started using computers, but sometimes I do my browsing/reading in an Ubuntu VM just because the font rendering is so much more crisp than it is in Windows.
Why are winfags even in this thread? Isn't this a thread for nice font rendering?
>>44085502
My eyes literally hurt looking at this. It's way too blurry, I feel like I am wearing glasses with the wrong prescription.
>>44087421
Clearly you don't belong then.
I'm using the ubuntu font for the sans serif font on firefox. any recommendations ?

wrong thread, buddy
>>44087954
nobody is going to shit on mine?
okay then
Freetype2, ttf-autohint, and cairo are fucking godsends.
MacType makes the font rendering on Windows better. I just wish it would get an update. Hell, I can't even find source for it anymore, the Mercurial repo is dead.
Anyone know where it could be found?
Could use newer versions of the aforementioned libraries. Also, font replacement with OpenType.
But yes, GNU/Linux could definitely do better than Windows in the Desktop Publishing sector. Maybe not Mac OS X tier, but close.
>freetype
>ghostscript
>cups
Great stuff.
Can we also discuss typography as it relates to technology here?
>>44087491
Helvetica Neue
Lato
Adobe Clean
And for serif, I replace Times Roman with Linotype's Times Ten. It is a Times variant that is better for body copy (e.g. small sizes, like 16pt and below).
meh
Pretty vanilla.
How is this?
My display res is only 1680x1050.
