I had no idea Chrome had become so prevalent.

I use Chrome still. I don't give a shit about muh botnet, etc. I stopped using firefox back in 2011 after dealing with freezing issues that wouldn't go away. I've tried to transition back to Firefox several times, but it lacks several built-in features that just aren't replicated well with add-ons, such as google translate, reverse image search, etc.

Chrome is just in general faster as well from my experience, has a better layout, looks better on higher resolutions, and the address bar / tabs / bookmarks take up far less space than they do in Firefox.

I'll admit that firefox is definitely the better option is you want to browse completely undetected, but even then it just becomes an annoyance rather than a benefit (especially if you REALLY don't want to leave a trace...).

Only extensions I have installed on chrome are a video downloader and adblock.
>>
>>43751983
What do you think? Think about all of the browsers there are...

IE
Opera
Netscape
Firefox
Chrome
Chromium
And what else? I can hardly think of any.

Let's look at which one of these is open source and is made by a reliable and trusted source that isn't known to steal people information.

Firefox
Chromium

There's your answer.

Now Adblock, Noscript, Cookie Monster, Blender, Request Policy, HTTPS Always, Better Privacy, and Smart Referrer

Why not finish that off by using a decent operating system like GNU/Linux and stop using untrusted proprietary software?
Why not be connected to Tor, Freenet, or a private VPN with no logs?
Why not stop browsing the Internet for a living and only going on trusted sites that don't spy on you? (Protip: Not 4chan)

It's that simple.

Most people don't give a shit because they have nothing to hide.

>inb4 extremely overused and blatantly fallacious why do you have curtains/would you hand out your bank PIN/why do you wear clothes argument.

Not even in the same category. If someone were to use your personal info to their advantages, you could sue for bank fraud, identity theft, etc. Even if you didn't sue, people would slowly stop using Google products when the news broke and they'd lose revenue. If they really were to use this information in a malicious manner, they would probably use it on someone worthwhile. Not neckbeard permavirgins with 50 dollars in their bank account and no credentials behind their name. The shit here might be overwhelming, yes, but you don't need to be paranoid about it. The only reason you would be paranoid is if you were a pedophile.

So you can stop spamming the curtain argument and just blatantly say that you are a pedophile. It's laughable, you and us all know the reason. Stop kidding yourself.

The American government, no.
But take China: they block (or slow down) google because they don't want to give away their population's data for free to an American company. To be hones, I am really impressed by their farsightedness and hope they will succeed to create a real alternative.

Having said that, google's success is based entirely on the laziness of internet users. All they provide can be found elsewhere but with a little bit more inconvenience.

Glorious German Firefox Master Race reporting in
>>
>>43751959
Chrome actually has certificate pinning, sandboxing, and a huge security team dedicated to finding exploits and fixing them.

Mozilla doesn't have any of that, and their security team is likely much smaller than Google's.

The world is better off if everyone is using a more secure browser. Your friends are less likely to get malware, and therefore your communications with them are less likely to be intercepted or insecure.

Everybody benefits from better security. Firefox's low marketshare isn't the problem, Firefox's aging codebase and lackluster security are the problems, which Mozilla is taking way too long to address.

Example:
e10s (process-per-tab) is going to come in February 2015. Sandboxing will likely take longer. Chrome has been sandboxed since 2008. If you're using Firefox, you're vulnerable, simple as that. And that's coming from someone who loves Firefox, and wouldn't hesitate to switch if they weren't so far behind Chrome. Just get over yourselves.

No. They have no guns, no private army, and control no essential resources.

Monsanto controls our food and does have a private army.
Microsoft has a backdoor to 90% of desktop computers and a handful of servers. That's not speculation, that's a proven fact.
Facebook has much more knowledge of your personal life than Google. Not only that, it is legally allowed (by the terms of service you agreed upon) to share much of it with anyone.
Oil companies control your fuel (not mine, I run on ethanol, faggots).

All of these companies are more powerful than Google and have a much worse record on ethics, from stealing competitor's technology and spreading misinformation to bribing governments and starting wars.
Meanwhile the most evil thing Google has done was to gather WiFi network names with the Street View cars.
