If windows 9 is subscription based, and we don't a good pirate option, fuck it. It'll be more dead than windows 8.1.
>>
>>42978321
It's not. There's going to be Windows 9, a single OS (no different versions) that has activation handled through the MS Store.

There WILL be a "Windows 365", which is more or less a cloud-based, subscription-based version of Windows, which is based off of the BUILD version of 8.1.2, and meant for enterprise usage.

I love it holy shit. I think MS is going to have tablet users using the desktop and launching touch apps through this new start menu. they'll also be able to use x86 desktop programs too, and multitask between them.

This will also be less jarring for people used to 7, they'll just have a few live tiles added to their menu. Normies will love having a little news thing that they can click to get quick news and weather and crap.

>>
>>42978835

I know. I was at Build. The point of being able to run WinRT-based apps on the Desktop is for regular laptops (especially non-touch laptops) and desktop computers. This is so that you don't have to leave the Desktop on machines where it is not suited to leave the Desktop. This was primarily motivated by having MS move all the basic OS apps (e.g. Mail, Photos, Calculator) to the WinRT runtime rather than Win32, while allowing these applications to feel 'at home' on the Desktop.

Lots of large splashes of bright colors distract the and confuse user, making him less productive. Even apple knows this, hence why their OS is so full of white and gray and why previous windows versions were equally plain.

Computers are for doing WORK, not being dazed and driven into a state of idiotic wonder by all the cool neon signs. Gee wizz, which fun app will you visit first? Windows is more like a shopping district than an operating system now.

Microsoft is aware of how pirated Windows is. Not providing a free version would be suicide and it makes no sense as they benefit from a larger market share, even if they don't make a single cent from those pirated copies.

If they were to offer a subscription based windows only (without a stand alone version), they would most likely offer a free version just to ensure a higher usage level, as well as to push bing, skydrive, IE and their other shit.

Yeah, it's not like both Apple an Canonical are forcing the exact same shit down our throats, is it?

It's an industry trend, no matter how deplorable it is. There's actually no logic in blaming it on Microsoft, it was started by the consumer after the whole iPhone thing.

Same goes for the cloud, the only thing that could be said is that Microsofts privacy policy is a damn sight nicer than Googles and Apples.

being in the middle of two postures is the weakest and most coward movement. they have blown it.

Together with the w9 restrictions to install it (need to deinstall in one computer to use in another, IF you have a legal copy, which is fucking retarded) this is a big deal they could have left metro but making it open with the left button, with right you have classic. TA FUCKING DA.

So, i guess steam OS and w8 until deprecated will be, later switch w8 for linux (fuck RMS).

Bill gates should be over the drawing desk instead of tripping in africa, at least he had balls.

Yes, being allowed to use one license on multiple computers is retarded. I hope they admit this and go back to the old way of one install per license and having to fucking call them to install it on another computer, only to have the first tell me that I'm a victim of software counterfeiting.

You're an idiot.

Aero and whatever the fuck the Win8 UI is called are compositing. Your GPU is keeping track of what the windows look like when they're obscured rather than only drawing them when visible. This makes for a smoother experience while taking some load of the CPU. Classic theme saves a bit of RAM and does all window drawing with the CPU.

Which will be faster depends some on your hardware, but anything remotely modern will generally be faster with Aero.

you are the idiot, you have one license. you install it. you cant install it in a second computer. after that all as ¨always¨. The news is that you have to deinstall, AKA call them, to install it IF YOU BUY ANOTHER COMPUTER and you dont use the former anymore.

Also the huge use of windows is partly due to piracy, same with the new tactics of apple, they dont require you to pay anymore for the OS.

I can understand people who shill for Apple without being paid because they want to justify the money they spent or because it honestly just werks, but even still all of the apple Shill threads the language and tone is never the same as it is in Windows shill threads

It's always so much more aggressive whenever Microsoft is involved, when someone mentions they'll keep using their pirated copy of Win7 vs getting Win8/9 the response is always so vitrolic, like if you said you didn't upgrade your OSX and kept an older version people will be like
>Ok I guess XYZ logic makes sense but I like Mavericks more or whatever

But for windows it's like
>Are you fucking retarded, are you so incredibly stupid why the fuck wouldn't you upgrade it? You get 2 seconds faster boot times and you can even spend time and make it look like Win7 too

Same thing with iDevices vs Surface, you talk about how you bought a mac/iphone/ipad/ect and people will either go
>Wow enjoy that debt
or
>Very nice let me link you mine

But once again surface discussions are the same shit like
>WOW WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU WANT ANYTHING ELSE This is the perfect device its a tablet and a laptop and its so cheap you must be fucking less than human to consider a MBA over this fucking kill yourself

I'm overexaggerating but I can't be the only one who notices this being the issue, I don't think there is a single person who cares enough about Windows to shill this hard without being paid

Mac OS threads, at the right time, can be pretty level-headed and helpful, to be fair. Though even in OS X threads, there's only really two camps - those on Snow Leopard, or those on Mavericks. The third option I suppose is those on Yosemite. Staying on Lion or Mountain Lion is daft at this stage, and most people will call you out on it.

The reason why most people get aggy in Win8 threads is because the proponents of Windows 7 are themselves vitriolic and generally haven't actually tried 8 for any reasonable amount of time. That inevitably devolves into shit slinging.

I think most people will agree that Windows 8/8.1 doesn't really bring much to make it worth installing on an existing machine. The point is that there's no real reason to plump for 7 over 8.1 on a new build - especially since, under the hood, 8.1 is better. Refinements to Explorer (e.g. native ISO mounting) and multimon enhancements tend to be overlooked too.
>>

Bwahahahahaha no. Try again when using Linux doesn't feel like cold syrup. Don't know what they do differently with their caching but it obviously doesn't work.

If you're (not you, but you in general) are going to use Steam OS, just do the world a favour and buy a console. It's the exact same shit, but you won't go around calling yourself "master race" when you're being retarded. Steam is cancer. If they get popular enough it'll either pressure Console makers to let people change out their hardware past just swapping HDDs, or make the OS something you can buy or whatever so you can play your 'amazing' console games on the PC
>>
>>42984091

Well, it's uhhh, Steam... and uhhh, it's a PC! And like, it has Steam on it, and you can play master race games on it! And you can like, play it on your couch, and hook it up to your TV! I'm not a console peasant anymore!

Having swappable hardware removes the Just Werks element of things. Might as well be a PC at that point.

Non-touch Mouse and Keyboard gets start menu back no more start screen. Start menu adds optional metro apps. Metro apps gain windowed mode
Tablets contine with startscreen

How is that bad?
The only bad thing, is that MS dicked around with the start screen on non-touch devcies instead of making it like W9 from the beginning

I am so frustrated with Windows 8 and now even more with 8.1 that I have to start taking meds or something. I guess it's good that Washington has legalized marijuana - maybe, that's how Microsoft went from Windows 7 the best operating system ever to Windows H8. Microsoft, why are you trying to turn my PC into a giant dual 24" monitor freaking PHONE? I've already got a phone - it's Android based because - well, Microsoft gave us Windows Mobile. I don't WANT everything I click on full screen - I want to multi task. I don't want my stuff hidden a way until I wave my mouse over the "magic spot" in the corner or who knows where. It took me about 30 minutes the first time I opened up a PDF document and tried to figure out how to print the damn thing! So I heard that there was so much outcry about losing the start button that 8.1 was going to bring it back. I've been too busy to read up on it (should I have to?) and was pissed off to discover that the start button in Windows 8.1 just takes me back to the very screen I hate in the first place! And why are you making it so hard for me to be an Administrator on my own computer. I do NOT need to have have my friggin OS tell me that I don't have permission to do stuff! During the update process to 8.1 on my work computer I was FORCED to log in with my personal Microsoft ID to continue - I just wanted to use a local user ID. At least I could do that in Windows 8. I don't have a work Microsoft ID - just my personal one. I don't NEED a Microsoft ID for work. I don't WANT a Microsoft ID for my work computer. I just want a local login. So I try to disconnect my Live ID after I get it updated and it asks for a user name and password, so I put in the same one as I had in 8 because that's the one

I need on my workgroup on all of my computers to make sharing easy. "That user name is already in use" - WTF? I just want to disconnect my MS Live ID - not create a new user. Please don't ever get in to designing or building cars! If I wanted to open the hood to check the oil on my Microsoft car I would have to wave my hand over some magic spot on the dash to get the hood to pop - and then I would get denied permission from the car to pull the dipstick out! I bought Windows PRO for Christ's sake! Let me turn off the start screen. Let me manage my user accounts and assign permissions without hassle. Please for the love of all that is holy, let me tell my OS that my PC is NOT A TABLET and does not have a touch screen! I keep seeing this flipping message on the side that insists that I swipe from the side of my screen to go back to the last program or window - swiping my mouse doesn't work and this unwanted pesky little helper is getting in my way covering stuff up! It's like having an annoying assistant that when I ask for something, I get a smile and a "Guess which hand it's in? C'mon, guess! Nope, not that one, try the other!" Just fork it over! I don't want to hunt for the damn print button when I'm looking at photos! Windows 7 was (and still is) the best OS ever. FSX was great, but MS Flight was an idiotic disaster. What the FUCK is going on there? Microsoft, I've loved you for decades - why are you treating me this way? .
