I fly with 1300mAh 3S lipo packs. Lithium Polymer packs can handle high discharge rates and maintain a linear discharge curve to prevent massive voltage sag. 3S packs supply 12.6v fully charged, and about 10.8v fully discharged. The power system can easily pull 30-40+ amps at full throttle, hence the seemingly low flight time. That is however supplemented by more batteries of course.

Quite the opposite actually. You reach a point where the added capacity of a battery is diminished by the added weight of the pack. More weight = more thrust required = higher constant amp draw. I'm just gonna throw out some numbers to make sense, these are by no means a representation of anything specifically and are meant as an example.
If the quad is 500 grams with the current battery, and each motor/prop combo can put out 250 grams of thrust at full throttle drawing 10amps, then the quad should be able to hover at 50% throttle, and you can assume that each motor is pulling 5amps to hover. Now if you use a battery of a higher capacity but it adds another 100 grams, then you'll actually require 60% throttle with each motor now drawing 6amps to hover. By increasing the size of the pack you've now increased the amp draw as well as reduced the amount of total power the machine can use for flying around, making it more sluggish.
This is moreso a simplified answer as there's far more to consider, but does that make sense, for the most part? You _can_ improve flight times by adding higher capacity packs without changing the setup, but there reaches a point where you no longer have the capability to either lift the pack, the flight experience isn't worth the added capacity, or flight times actually shorten because of the increased amp draw.

Well I didn't get them brand new so I didn't spend a fortune on them, fortunately. I like them and the fact that they've got the amp built in. By no means the best, but enjoyable none the less.

Not gonna upgrade anything on it yet. I've just built it, and this thing itself is an upgrade from the previous one I've been flying, which I'll still fly but if I lose it in a river or something I won't feel bad about it. As for total spent, yeah somewhere around there for everything, from radio and receivers to chargers and batteries and all sorts of other fun goodies. I have quite a few different parts and such for some scratch built airplanes that I've yet to even touch as I move from one multirotor project to another.
I've got this little guy to work on next. Actually just preparing to flash the ESCs with a different firmware. She'll be a rocket when all's said and done.

My 20" 1600x1200 monitor still seems huge to me. I might appreciate a step up to 24" 1920x1200, but I think anything larger would just seem silly to me and require too much head movement.
1920x1080 is too low for a 27", and last I checked all panels with that size/resolution were junky TN panels, though there may be exceptions nowadays.
