So 0 progress with installing linux on some asus laptops.
So far I've tried: Kubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Ubuntu gnome, Ubuntu and Cinnamon Mint.
While all of those failed I've found that the problem is with the hdd.
Its a normal 500Gb WD no raid config or any other shit still I get various errors while installing anything.
Doesnt matter if its an unformatted unparticioned completely empty hdd or an ntfs or ext4 it has the same problems. Now somehow I managed to get to the point that the install recognizes the hdd but says all the 500 gigs of it is filled with the kubuntu already(i had the most progress with this).
Any ideas how to fix that?
Tried secure and insecure mode. CSM on/off. Legacy/UEFI boot.
With windows it worked perfectly so the HDD is alive.

The things the author claims about the kernel are outright wrong. The others are not Linux's fault, but the developers'. For instance, libre office being unable to render docx files incorrectly is microshaft's fault. The libre office team had to literally reverse engineer the docx spec. Yeah, let's not blame microshaft for this.
It's okay though. I am perfectly content with my gentoo. The only thing I MISSED was photoshop. Now I have CS6, which, with the proper libraries (winetricks), works flawlessly under Linux.

Basically it's all up to you. If you dont need a DM then don't install one and use startx instead. If you dont need a panel, don't use one or install lemonbar, conky or tint2. Most stuff DE's ship are GUI-apps related, so basically you don't need anything more than a WM and the programs you usually use (like your favorite file manager, terminal, etc). For internet you still can use nm-applet's cli tools, but you can also use wicd; again, it's all up to you.

Xdotool has nothing to do with it. It already sends the "mousedown, mouseup" commands as intended. The issue lies in "f" and "f + Release" from within .xbindkeysrc - the second command works as intended, but the first one doesn't - it keeps registering the F key over and over and triggering the mouse (confirmed by visualization). Running a fake RAID 0 setup on UEFI, and the installer fails to correctly setup the ESP. I've checked from an arch usb drive and I think it's using dmraid for some reason. I'm not able to mount the partitions and install a bootloader, they just show up as md126 under lsblk with nothing else. cgdisk shows the partition names though, but they're not in /dev/

I installed plasma 5 (pacman -S plasma) which came with the sddm manager that is recommended on the Arch wiki for it.
I was "working" though my screen had got white epilespsy flashes as the mouse moved, I could choose between awesome (which I previously installed) and plasma, awesome work fine I then tried Plasma. It worked for 5 seconds before freezing.

So I have a question
I am programming a picozed with a Linux based rtos on it. I have set up a service in init.d to run on power up, as part of this script I am updating the Ethernet address.
The thing is, the update doesn't seem to stick. If I kill the process the script starts and rerun the script, the address updates just fine.
The only thing I can think of is that the script runs before you are prompted for login information, and somehow certain system parameters are either protected or rewritten on login on this particular device.
Any ideas?
