so the oculuse rift consumer version is finally out for pre-order.
have any of you guys had a chance to try 1 on?
is it as good as everyone says?
do you really feel like you're in the environment?
and one question i really need answered is if you look at the corner of your eye can you see the edge of the screen or no.
Yes, i've tried all the VR devices, including Vive Pre.
It's a really incredible new experience.
It varies from software to software, but yes. The HTC Vive definitely excels in this area for me, as it's an experience where you walk/move around in the real world, with perfect 1:1 hand tracking. The Rift is currently a sitdown experience with an xbox controller, it really doesn't compare.
Yes, you can see the edge of the screen, it's kind of like wearing a diving mask. But, just like with diving/snorkeling, you quickly forget you're wearing the mask, and don't even notice it.
It's not a gimmick, its a brand new experience which has endless possibilities - many people are just too short sighted to see it.
Within a few decades, every household will have a VR device, like they currently have a TV.

Vive Pre is set to be out around April.
If you order a Rift, you currently wont get it until around June.
If you want to experience true VR, Vive is the far better solution. But it's likely going to cost more than the Rift, people are estimating up to $1000.
If money is an issue for you, just wait a year or so. The first generation is going to quickly become deprecated in terms of its technology.
I personally preordered a Rift, and im going to get 3 Vives, so i can be in the same VR space with my housemates.

The technology to transfer real life into VR just doesnt exist yet. Atm, you'd be limited to just 360 degree vision from a single point, which would make you very motion sick.
Animu porn (or animated in non animu styles) will be better than real stuff for this reason.
The reason for this is that you'll actually be able to walk around, and even interact with the girls (or dudes if thats your thing).

i expect it to be better than what i expect
it's the illusion of presence, there is a chance to get completely lost for minutes, depending on the thing you do.
it's not about being aware of it, but your brain making a switch to simply start believing it. it's somewhat like lucid dreaming, being aware that you dream but the dream continues, not that intrusive though

well the DK1 is like 720p and has no head motion tracking other than turning. DK2 has head tracking. 1080p and i think bigger lenses. idk how good the new version (consumer version) is

Yeah, i saw it, and it looks shit so far. The models are laughably bad. I don't doubt it'll eventually work... But even once it looks good, you'll still just be watching something.
Meanwhile, with 3d models, you'll be able to interact with them. You will be able to fuck something in VR, as opposed to watching something in VR.

Yes, real-life interactive graphics will eventually come around, but not for a while.

It will be pretty "Motion Sickness". The subtle movements of your head not being reciprocated in VR, no matter how hard you try to stay still, will make you insanely sick.

solution for that: an app or something that creates a virtual move theater environment that reacts to your head movement while the porn happens in front of you. it'll be like watching a next level 3D movie
