It's still like 4 months till Fedora 24 release. It's scheduled to be the first major distro that comes with Wayland as a default display protocol.
Even though Gnome 3 and default gnome3 applications support wayland, everything else will require XWayland compatibility layer to be used.
The sooner we ditch X for Wayland, the better, but we still have a long time before it gets fully adopted.
I would consider X to be obsolete when RHEL adopts it as default and Nvidia/AMD having proprietary drivers for it.
Till then, it's all beta testing and getting it "to work"

Just be careful, avoid electrostatic charge that wrecks havoc in delicate electronics.

bought it used, 500GB drive full to the brim with westerns and spaghetti westerns.
By far the biggest culprit with this device is the fact that originally it shipped with Vista.
And because some retarded deal between intel and Microsoft, it requires AHCI drivers to be installed.
So in order to install XP on it I had to make a custom installation ISO with nlite.
And in order to install 7 I had to take another fucking computer, put the HDD, install windows, use regedit to enable AHCI mode and then put the HDD back in fujitsu.
Linux doesn't have this problem fortunately.

I think the latitude counts as a business model - not consumer. In any case, aluminum frame/casing, a trackpoint clone, serial port on the back, IEEE 1394 port on the side, and an almost thinkpad-tier keyboard (and it has the nice normal-positioned navigation key cluster). I love it.
I had an inspiron 1420 at one point (consumer dell), it died about a week after the warranty ran out. Never again.

There's shitloads of ports of the original doom engine on Linux.
Hell, the actual source code released by carmack under GPL which all doom engines and clones in existence was a Linux version.
If you want to play vanilla doom1, doom2, hexen heretic try chocolate-doom port, it should be in every distro's repositories by default.
For more advanced functionalities and modern WADs there are other ports as well.

Try out installing wvdial, or modemmanager, or usb_modeswitch if the ones before don't work.
You would need Internet to download these, though.
Apparently many Huawei models work both as USB stick contatining (useless for you) Windows drivers, and as modem, but it seems your Linux correctly detects it as a modem. usb_modeswitch is supposed to "flip" the internal switch, but not sure if actually the problem.
I don't actually have any idea if what I just said was good advice. It's just what Google said. Might be worth a try.

Well, technically, nothing stops you from installing binary packages in case you have them.
I'm not sure if portage holds binary packages somewhere in a mirror either since I never used the feature.
In any case, while some packages are really heavy, most of them have a binary version as a separate package, and if you try to leave the heavier ones for night with --keep-going parameter, it's not actually that noticeable, since most packages compile in a minute or two on my i7. Libreoffice and llvm are the worst exceptions, really; even the firefox is not actually that bad, but libreoffice compiles for hours. Kinda tempted to use binary version from now on.
Oh, also you can use whatever other package manager you want there too, but in this case it would hardly be gentoo. Half the Gentoo is just the portage and the system it brings.

I want to edit some android kernel files and I'm using Sublimetext3. Loading the entire kernel as a project, in the defconfig file there are flags like
CONFIG_CPU_FREQ=y
and then in the source files it should only enable any code inside #ifdef CONFIG_CPU_FREQ and gray out the others. Is this even possible? Is there a a plugin for Sublimetext or any other C editor that can do this?

Basically android studio is a bloated piece of... well it's not the worst IDE in the world, and it's better than any other option for developing for android but anyway.
Usually packages are put into /usr/bin, which is in your path, so if you type a program name the terminal knows to search in the folder than contains most of them.
Android studio is installed wherever you like really, but to avoid fuckups thats either in your home directory or maybe /opt.
It won't be in your path though, so in order to start it up you have to remember exactly where it is if launching from the terminal.
However, if you add the directory to your path, you can just start it up with ./studio.sh from anywhere you like.
You add things to the path like so:export PATH=$PATH:/wherever/you/installed/it/
This will only apply to your current terminal, so you'll need to add it to a startup script to be permanent.
To be completely honest, you'll probably want to change directory into where studio is located when you use it anyway, so I never actually bothered with this myself.
