I love my M8. The metal was the biggest reason I bought it since I'm of the opinion that generally, for my purposes, every phone platform would serve me identically. So I just buy whatever phone looks and feels the best.
I dropped it down a flight of concrete stairs the other day. Dented THE FUCK out of side of the phone, pushed the screen out a little bit on the corner, and there is a small stress wrinkle in the display.
Works tho. I typed this post with it.
I want to get a leather or wood phone next.

I would buy the m8 right now if it weren't for that retarded area with the htc logo on it. the bezels are fucking retarded and it's just way too fucking big. I would've given up the speakers in no time for the removal of that bezel bloat which is why they had to include them. htc is essentially regarded. the m9 is bad, or really overpriced and would-be decent at a lower price, the a9 has a retarded pricing in europe and doesn't even have a curved back iirc. they're the only ones they understand a good dac is more important than two muh coars that don't add anything

Using an m7 now on cm12.1 with GPU and CPU overclocked. Has all the functions of a new phone (tap to wake etc), and has the glorious 4.7" 1080p display. Still get 4hrs SOT so why ever replace?
The One Plus X is actually the sexiest phone.
I have it + no screen protector + basic tpu case but I'm terrified i'm going to break it at any given moment.
If I do I'm probably "down / sidegrading" to a moto g 2015. It seems more durable + its waterproof which is a big deal to me.

You should have used a case. I keep mine in a case when I go out and it looks as good as new. I guess I'm just careful, I have big hands and tight grip so I don't usually drop things. I use the stock jelly plastic case which came with the phone. It's quite decent actually. Not sure if I should get some metal bumper case or something like that.

That's why I keep the M8 in a case with a good grip on the sides, when I'm out. When I'm indoors I take it out, nothing happened until now.
Got the M8 at the start of last year to replace the HTC One X+.
Hopefully HTC's next flagship will be more like M8 but with better specs.
M9 was a disappointment and the A9 is just awful.
X9 seems to be a good budget phone.

The M7 design is only good if you are looking at the phone and not actually using it. The edge of the phone is beveled so that the back surface of the phone is larger than the front surface (with the screen). If you want to use the power button (on the top of the phone), you have to awkwardly wrap your finger around the bezel.
The USB jack sucks and wears out, and the holes for the speaker fill with crud if you use the phone long enough.
Battery life is mediocre and the HTC Blinkfeed or whatever it is is dumb as hell. It also only had a 4 megapixel camera when everything else was using 8.

I own an M7 and you're wrong. The speakers have not filled with anything, and the power button is easy to reach if you don't have manlet hands.
The battery life has gotten bad over time but started out with a solid two days of heavy usage.

Two other people I know also had M8s running stock sense 6.
ALL FUCKING 3 PHONES HAD THEIR SPEAKERS "FADE OUT" . It sounds like they are plugged with dirt. The best way I could describe it, is it sounds like you have the phone on max volume with your finger over the speaker.
They are good phones, but the speakers are a blessing and a curse, and the tiny camera on the back has the tenancy to become loose and get dirt behind the lense.
Switched over to a OnePlus X, defiantly a solid upgrade in build quality.

I couldn't justify the risk of having the screen have yellow whites in one year or two, after paying more than 600 bucks for it. Just doesn't sound like a good deal. I like more durable phones, and amoled phones are not durable.
By comparison, I have this old Treo 650 I posted in a few threads here, which has an LCD screen which is even brighter than my HTC M8 screen. After 11 years! Wow, LCD screens can have a really long life without any issues. Can't say the same about amoleds, unfortunately. Of course, nobody would expect to keep a phone 11 years, but not only 2 years either.

I had the M7 for 2 years, yes it was pretty and actually quite durable. However the lack of MicroSD and the shitty camera ended up making me not like it at all, just replaced it with a G4. Also maybe it was just mine plus the horrible Sprint network but it dropped down to 3G constantly and half the time I couldn't stream a youtube video while driving. (to listen to on bluetooth)

I have the M8 with a TPU black/clear case since it first released in north america.
Dropped that shit so many times on concrete, ice, wooden floors and it held up perfectly. As long as the bare aluminum hitting the ground, the phone will hold up nicely.
I dropped it off a table over the weekend, now the touchscreen doesn't register sometimes. I think it is time to find a new phone with a loud speaker that can match or beat the M8

That's the one good thing. It's pretty durable. I'm surprised it works fine for the most part and the screen hasn't cracked. The top corners of the touch screen occasionally don't work but it's not an issue. Has some ugly dents and nicks though.
