Anyone recommend me some sub £100 watches?

I really have gotten fond with the submariner pepsi bezels.

I also have always liked IWC portaguese style of watches. Too bad I don't have £30k to drop on one.

Hello /g/watch,

Can we talk about dial colours for a moment?

I didn't bother to ask the effay thread, since it usually takes a less than practical slant to things watch.

I was wondering, what dial colour do you prefer or predominantly prefer?

Is your collection (or one watch) of a certain shade or hue?
Do you like that?

Are there dial colours that you would never wear?

Why?

I've found myself always being drawn to the high contrast white on black design.

Typical military application of white/silver hands and white indices on a black dial. The rest of the watch can be whatever, but I generally insist on this.

I just find it so much easier to see. True black (rather than charcoal) is preferred.

I can't for the life of me stand white dialed watches, even though I stare forlornly at Nomos and wish things weren't so (their dark faced models have thin spindly silver hands that don't provide enough contrast nor enough reflection for my liking, as opposed to say, a Grand Seiko mirrored diamond edge hand or whatever).

What's worst of all?

Silver dial, silver hands.
Find it too difficult to tell the time at a quick glance in broad daylight.

A pity, as I do enjoy seeing all the vintage models you guys flaunt on here in that scheme.

I collect pocket watches, and they're all white but as for the watches I'd actually wear around day to day, it's just the ole Orient Mako blueface that breaks my monochrome funk.

Is anyone else as boring as me?

Ooh very nice.

I spotted one of these on ebay a few years back NIB, but the seller wouldn't ship out of their country,

Finding a black dialed (military then, because they're the only ones that had such) pocketwatch in reasonably good nick is one of those never ending quests I keep on the back burner.

Yes monochrome is effay (or was, the year before last), but asking /g/ came to mind first.
>>
>>52157717
Don't mind pretty much any dials, except for those indian repaints with bright shit like pink and the like
If there's a possibility, I prefer white/blue over black, because it's pretty boring now

Not as bad as the Domino's Pizza Rolex's.

What a way to piss off your retiring staff: give them a pricey gift that they'll never be able to sell because nobody fucking wants a some fast food label on their rolex, but also something they'll not actually want to keep or wear because it keeps rubbing "Domino's Pizza", a glowing testament to their shitty job, right in their fucking face.

It's like covering a in shit and saying 'enjoy'.
It's valuable, but not really (because it's shit).

I actually love it. My great uncle worked for continental machine for over 50 years and this is the only thing of his I own. The back has a very well done engraving of his name too.

I like lots of colors for dials, but most of my watches are white, blue or black.

I'd like to get a watch with urushi dial.

General note for newbies: white and cream colors are traditionally more dressy. Colorful and dark dials are traditionally more sporty.

>mechanical watches are retarded
Wearing one doesn't mean you try to evangelize everyone that you meet.
If someone asks about it, sure, but otherwise normies don't know there's a difference.
To me, and others here, standard quartz watches are boring and soul-less. Mostly because there's not much difference in function from an F-91W to a $300 Nixon.
Mechanical watches have hundreds of tiny pieces inside, all engineered to function at a steady pace in order to keep time. If you don't think that's the tightest shit, why don't you explain what watches you find to be interesting?

Autistic to say they're boring?
There's nothing different between standard quartz watches. The movements are produced in factories in China and bought in bulk by fashion brands.
>>

How can a watch be funny, interesting or have soul?

Is just a device to check the time. If it is accurate and somewhat sturdy, then it is a good watch. Enything else is just bullshit to charge premium price to retards.

Ignoring lug overhang doesn't mean it's a reasonable size. So long as we're linking vids about rich folk talking about watches, here:

>>
>>52160846
With Panerai (and similarly styled watches) the lugs curve down to the point where there's barely any overhang.
This isn't a 50mm Invicta submariner, Panerais are designed to be big.
That being said Panerai is a garbage brand and if you like the look just get a Marina Militare

I was super close to buying a ray or mako USA, before I found my bernhardt unworn on ebay.

I'm quite happy with the choice, though I'll probably go with orient in the future, hopefully the mako usa goes down in price a bit, or they come out with a new ray with date only or no date, and of course no pusher.

I know there is another mako with no pusher, but still.

Vostok Komandirskie comes to mind, but you might hate the screw down crown on a manual wind. Other than that there are Ebay HMT's that'll likely work well after a service, or NOS vintage Chinese watches with the Chinese Standard Movement.
>>
>>52161090
Vostok, maybe. The amphibia/komandirskie, not the Vostok-Europe models, those are expenive.
>>
>>52161090
Bump your budget to $100 Canadian and there are a bunch of vintage watches you can get. For example, I've bought from these guys before, and they did a good job:

http://www.vintagewatch.ca/?p=301

The watches look better in person, they have no idea how to take photos.

Vostoks are good, but the problem is getting one here and all the associated customs fees, or worse, when someone decides to send it UPS rather than via the mail.

I got an HMT Pilot as my first mechanical.

Was idly clicking around amazon, and found this cheap datejust ripoff. It's description bragged about its miyota movement, so I looked through the images, and sure enough, the clear casebacks reveals a 8215.

What gets me though is it has "unadjusted" engraved on the movement. I don't doubt that's true for this particular dogshit brand, do they all say that?

Why won't smartwatches replace all traditional watches eventually?
>>
>>52168875
They will when battery lasts at leas 3 months and recharging takes 10 seconds to complete 100%.
>>
>>52168049
I get that hes kind of out of his mind with his heritage shit and trying to look prestigious and cool. But as far as watches is there anything he is dead wrong about I should know? Not that I am even going to be buying any of it, would be cool of there was any decent cheap/mid tier watch channels that were not about outdoor/edc shit.

Though I guess you can't really be into mid toer/poorfag dogshit watches too much because it becomes weird that you haven't just saved up or sold most of it for an actual luxury watch.

>Though I guess you can't really be into mid toer/poorfag dogshit watches

Remember that rolex used to sell for $250.
The price is not important when building YOUR COLLECTION NOT THE DREAMS OF SOME URBAN FUCKTARD AND HIS SQUALLLE SHIT.
If you are buying mid tier watches you make god damn sure they have limited production run or they are unique in some way like Obris Morgan,Halios or Maison Celadon.
>>
>>52168910
I think that's too strict. 24 hours battery life and 2 hours to charge sounds fair. With the enhanced functionality of a smart watch, I feel battery life shouldn't have to be amazing.
>>
>>52169086
Awful, that's about as bad as a phone, which would be competing for the same charging space and time.
>>
>>52169164
When would you need to use your watch for more than 24 hours without sleeping for at least 2 hours?
>>
>>52169009
Any other microbrands to pay attention to? seems to be a lot of them. Obris's shit is cheap so I’ll pay attention to them, the explorer dlc looked badass. I don't know if anything orient does will be valued down the line since they keep having updated versions of shit but I hate that the pvd orient ray is fucking gone for under 200 and I can't buy it down the line.

What y'all think of Tissot in general? Genuinely good entry-level luxury watches or cheap stuff riding the "Swiss-made" hype train?

Planet ocean overshilled? I'm not exactly getting it because of all the Bond advertisements, and the Submariner is pretty overrated honestly.
And by Planet Ocean I meant to say 300 my bad
>>
I'm curious about this and I want honest answers from diver owners.

>>

Omega itself is overshilled, and not the prestigious shilling kind, that is keeping me away from them

>>
>>52170204

>>
>>52170260
Personally, sub
Logically and realisticaly, probably some Seiko like tuna or something
>>
>>52168875
They may, if they catch on properly and aren't crap, replace the simple function of just telling the time.
But to replace watches that are increasingly pushing themselves into the superfluous, luxury goods/jewelry market?

Disposable tech made in chinkland isn't jewelry and does not an irrational object of desire make.

So never, in any regard not to do with telling time (which is being increasingly replaced by smartphone time telling anyway).
>>
>>52170198
I dont wear it in the shower because it takes half a second to take off and I know it's safe at home.
but in public restrooms and anywhere else I won't take off my watch because theres a chance I might set it down and not put it back on.
also a shower just feels like i'm wasting the water resistance even though I don't need to. If i'm swimming or working with shit underwater, i'll keep the watch on, only at home does it come off. especially when I eventually get a rolex sub
>>
>>52169288
still have to take your watch off and plug it in at night, pain in the ass. automatic watches are too much for some people, let alone a watch that needs to be charged every night
>>
>>52170260
Omega has parts made in china.
The PO's bracelet is made in china.

Consider whether you want to pay that price for something made in china or not.

At least with Rolex you can be more or less sure that you're getting what you asked for ("swiss made").

Omega, and pretty much everything ETA/swatch group (and likely everything else owned by the big conglomerates like richemont and lvmh), is fucking suspect as fuck. Factories in China, in Thailand.
What percentage of what is made where?
Swiss laws regarding labels is trixy as fuck.
To what order of magnitude are you overpaying?
(do you care?)

Seiko/Citizen for truly made in Japan (upper tier models only).
Rolex (and above, like JLC and beyond) for "truly" Swiss.
Damasko for truly German (DK models only). GO I'm not sure about, Lange I'm not sure about, Nomos ironically is all german except their cases, but they got the movements down so I'll give them that.
Stowa is mostly chinese. Laco probably has Chink/east german cases and use swiss or basic japanese (citizen) movements. Sinn? Swiss movements.

If it's basic "swiss movement" aka ETA then how much of that shit is really swiss?

If it's swiss (or generally, german) cases, how much of that case was made first in china before being sent on for finishing?

If you don't mind this sort of stuff then get whatever strikes your fancy.

But if you're a stickler for autistically wanting what you paid for (a "swiss watch", "german watch", "japanese watch") then stick to these brands that can, at least compared to all the other ones, be at least somewhat trusted to provide what is paid for.

If you don't care, just buy something that at least doesn't look like crap and you'll be okay.

>>
>>52170543
A couple things amiss here.

Cases and Sapphire glass for Nomos are swiss made. Which is alright since they are well made.
Laco is mostly powered by Miyota 82XX series or cheap quartz movements. Cases are mostly German made as far as i recall.
Both Sinn and Damasko use primarily ETA movements, though not basic grade. Very few Damasko models with the A35 inhouse are also rather ugly with those cut off numerals.

But as far as ETA movements go, usually the basic grade ones are at least 50% Chinese made.

-the Junghans meister handwound :good-looking and thin, but movement not in-house
-the Sinn 856 : love the look, but no exhibition caseback, it's something I could live without but I'd like one
Which one would you pick, and do you have any other recommendation ?

Either the Nomos or the Sinn, and of those two i would go for the Nomos.

I'd definitely go for the Nomos. It is in a different league from the others you mentioned.

I've just ordered the watch, it hasn't been dispatched yet but I've received the email that the purchase has been taken into notice and its preparing to be dispatched.

I've yet to receive the watch but i do believe it'll make a good dress watch since it keeps things simple and nice, especially if it does have good leather straps. If your looking for dress watches apart from the Khaki check out the some of the Seiko SARB's and a few Orients like the Orient Ray or Orient Bambino; they're both good dress watches for around the same price range as the Khaki.

Voting against these other guys

Nomos is nice but the movement they make in house is a moderately improve and better finished German Peseux 7001 which really is a mediocre movement. For the price may as well get sinn ETA is fine and the 2892 is a great movement

More importantly you're getting much superior technology with the AR dehumidification, tegiment case etc. As an 856 owner I can say I love this watch and it isn't a meme like Nomos is these days
Sinn is definitely overhyped amongst WIS but not as much as Nomos which due to its Apple esque marketing campaigns and general cliché is overpriced by a lot.

Hate to say it But if I wanted an all German made watch these days I'd buy a vintage East German watch as those ate the only ones since WWII 100% made on German territory with original German engineering

Nobody actually gives a fuck about this In North America though. I've had several jobs and seen CEOs of large companies and general officers from several countries give lectures or go to black tie events with Timex digital watches.

I actually like wearing dressy ones for fun but it's not a societal thing anymore, at least not in the States and Canada.

Whether or not anyone cares if your watch is dressy or not doesn't change how dressy it actually is.
>>
>>52173713
Sure, and for his purposes it'll be dressy enough I'm certain. Especially in a society where some gaudy ass rose gold plated Michael Kors dogshit is considered dressy, especially amongst grills and young people

I think it'll be possible as a dress watch, its a nice watch, sure it's a pilot watch but that doesn't make it look bad when your wearing it with a suit and it has a black dial with leather straps. If i were to see it at a wedding or a party I would pass it as a dress watch, looks nice enough so why not.

Oh, /g/, baby, i did good today...
Fully working chronograph, made by Heuer and sold under Zales' house brand in the late 60s/early 70s...
Guess how much I paid?

Well really, you can fucking use anything as long as we don't invent the most ridiculous possible scenario where it might look dumb. (A priest probably shouldn't wear a huge lego-like colorful g-shock when working in funerals and so on)

It being acceptable with a suit doesn't exactly make it a dressy watch though.

I'm looking for a watch for my gf with the following specifications:
24-32mm
Full day (i.e.Wednesday instead of WED), JDM seiko / casio / citizen with kanji is ok too.
New or LNIB
Quartz preferred
No more than $120

Anyone that happens to know of this?
Looked on creation watches and only found a Seiko 5 that looked acceptable, overpriced quartz with sapphire, both day-less and a SARY for several times the budget.

I got it at an estate sale for $15 USD.
