Mini-ITX Edition
Starting with my main rig's guts. The fact that my motherboard doesn't match my color scheme sets my autism off like you wouldn't believe.
>>51997462
How do you like the case? I almost bought it.
>My build is basically dead.
>New build specs proposed:
>NCase M1
>i7-4790K, or i7-6700K if part doesn't get warrantied.
>ASUS MAXIMUS VI Impact Z87, or MAXIMUS VII Impact Z170 if part not warrantied
>2x 8GB 1,600 MHz l, or 2x 16GB DDR4 (again, if parts not warrantied.)
>Intel 730 Series 480 GB SSD.
>2x 3 TB Western Digital Caviar Black
>ASUS GTX 970 Mini
>SilverStone SX-500G SFX PSU
>Noctua NH-D9L,
>2x Noctua Redux 92mm fans, 2x >Noctua Redux 120mm
I think that covers it. Should be a cool little build. I thought about the ASRock X99 ITX board but the benchmarks don't seem much better that Skylake.
aint no pc better than shitbox
mITX da best desu senpai~
>dat feel when crowded inside mitx

How do you like the Impact VIII? As you can see above, I'm considering it.
>all those huge ass cases
>mITX
>implying you don't love the poop fans
I tried MITX once, too limiting and I wasn't benefiting from the smaller size (was a Prodigy so actually wider than this case).
>>51999543
>Too limiting
Aside from one GPU, what was limiting you?
>Bitfenix Prodigy
That a meme, wasteful space.
hey Mongoloids
>m-ITX Edition
But why? Do you move your PC around often? I used to have an m-ITX, I found there was little point to having such a restrictive space.
>>51999590
RAM capacity and cooling. There's also stuff that isn't actually limiting at the moment but I'd like to keep the options open, like all the different expansion cards available and more SATA ports. When I had MITX I didn't think I'd have a need or want for a second GPU, but things changed.
This was my guts. But then I changed to the Fractal in >>51999657
Been waiting for a snowfall to get some nice outside pics but alas no snow here in northern Illinois.
>>51999380
Soundcard is shit.
The WLAN is pure crap, it just keeps crashing like mad when you subject it to p2p
Annoying placement of some connectors in the mobo, or maybe that's because my stuff is pretty tightly packed.
If I would be building this now I'd just get the bigger mobo with two GPU places and stuff it to a slightly different mitx board where I could still have GPU like in 250D.
>>51999791
>different mitx board
different mitx case*
Posting my ghetto-rig
>>51999502
Legit jelly. I can't wait to get a hold of my NCase.
Generally how would you rate it?
>>51997462
Nice, almost got that case but decided to go for the mATX version in the end.
Posting my computer box.
>>51999990
Not him, but I'm with you. January 10th, mine ships.
>>51997832
I'd still go X99 over Skylake for those 2 extra cores at basically the same price these days.
>>51997832
I picked up 2 730 ssd's in September on a jewegg sale. Looking at the prices now, it would be insane to buy.
>>52000341
Perhaps I will then.
I need to look into reliablility of that board, and maybe I'll go for it.
>>52000418
I have one, I got it when they were on sale also. Got the 480 GB for ~$250
>>51999791
Sounds like most ITX boards. Good thing I'm wired and use a USB DAC.
>>51999662
Just out of curiosity, what would you need more than 16GB for? If I upgrade to Z170, I'll get 32GB just to have, but it would be just to have. I hardly need my 16 now.
>>52000440
I have the asrock z170 mitx, and I can recommend that. After a bios update, its been great so far.
>>51999990
It's a really nice case with okayish airflow. You'd really benefit from watercooling everything with a custom loop. Though that doesn't mean your rig will overheat.
There's enough room inside for whatever you want to build and I highly recommend using Silverstone's SFX PSUs. The rig in my pic was powered by their 450W SFX PSU.
When it comes to actually putting components inside, you have to know what piece is going where and what you're going to do with all the cables, otherwise it'll be a nightmare for cooling later on.
Build quality is top notch and since it is made by Lian-Li, you can get spare plastic parts (like case snappings) from them as well.
9/10 case.
>>52000514
Sounds great.
Would you recommend going with a high-end air cooler like in your picture, or an AIO water cooler?
>>52000440
>what would you need more than 16GB for?
Well, I'm currently using just over 16GB with just Chrome running, about 60-70 tabs with some being media heavy (videos), then I might want to play a game, edit some photos, or work on a video at the same time. 24GB will probably do me fine but I'm going to get another 8GB anyway as it's so cheap.
>>52000569
Depends on your own taste. I don't like the idea of a rattling waterpump (had a Corsair H80i in there) so I went with air cooling.
Fact of the matter is, the Noctua NH-U9S is not being produced anymore and can sometimes be bought at absurdly high prices. So you'd be safer with getting some AIO short term.
>>52000440
I got myself Dragonfly from Audioquest because the MITX soundcard was so shit

>>52000624
>Noctua NH-U9S
Just found it on Amazon for $60. Besides, a NH-U9B should also fit if the U9S is unavailable.
>>52000777
My bad, I meant the B, not the S.
In any case, you have to check if your RAM will get in the way of any cooler you mount, because you don't have that much room to shift the fan.
