Don't flatter yourself, it never has been, never will be. There seem to be a few more people acknowledging what Apple does well instead of blindly shitting on them non-stop, but everyone recognizes their many, many flaws, particularly/primarily in terms of desktop computers which most of us care a lot about. They make damn good notebooks but their desktop lineup is almost universally awful, though for an AIO (which no one here would want for ourselves but might be ok for a family) the iMac does some OK stuff, their 5K implementation was cool.

/g/ is going to continue to care about desktops though, and Apple shows no sign of giving a fuck, if anything they've been going in reverse there. TrashcanMac is shit, latest Mac Mini was a flat out downgrade, and I say that as an old Mac Pro owner. So /g/ will not like Apple, have no fear.

You really think that a handful of people who incidentally use Macs makes this place Macfag central?

You know there are people in the world who cried when Steve Jobs died, right? In fact, there are whole online communities of these people.

Posting that you don't like Macs on 4chan is just about the most cowardly thing you can do other than mumbling angrily to yourself like every other kid with Asperger's.

They're really damn good though, so you're objectively wrong. Why do you insist on being so wrong and then pooping about it on the net?

Depends what you value. I like good build quality and a nice design as much as the next guy. But I like my laptops to be serviceable and modular to some extent too so I can repair them and do replacements or upgrades. Also Apple tries to lock you into their ecosystem so hard it's bullshit.

So no, if you like to be somewhat in control of your hardware, you don't buy Apple.

the fact is you can get about three 'Gaming' PCs for the price of a mac. Another one of my hated things is the use of the term gaming in computers. I looked at s pre built computer that my mate got and I'm like "you fuck wit!" they all use APUs and they charge really crappy prices like £300-500

>But I like my laptops to be serviceable and modular to some extent too so I can repair them and do replacements or upgrades.
In a desktop? Abso-fucking-lutely. But in a notebook I found that to be utterly useless, in fact worse then useless because the compromises needed to make them modular and "serviceable" which in practice usually they weren't requires them to be some combination of bigger/heavier/less battery life. The physics of mobile is harsh, so honestly I don't find Apple to be one iota worse there then anywhere else. If I ever need one of our notebooks at work (I manage 14 or so) repaired for an actual hardware failure, which almost never happens anyway, it's fine to just send it in and have it dealt with.

I can understand people who want something from notebooks that Apple just doesn't offer though, like more powerful GPUs in a thicker package for example. That doesn't mean I don't think Apple's notebooks aren't still good, but they definitely don't cover the whole market or even close, PC has way more breadth, but unlike the desktops what they do do they do well.

>Also Apple tries to lock you into their ecosystem so hard it's bullshit.
On iOS holy fuck yes, but on the Mac, no, not for a long time. It'll be a big deal if that ever changes but it hasn't yet, it's more flexible then Windows though obviously way less then Linux/BSD.

>So no, if you like to be somewhat in control of your hardware, you don't buy Apple.
That's not true though. You don't buy Apple if your needs don't intersect with their extremely limited product matrix, or you prefer a fully open stack. Control isn't an issue for now though.

Trackpads are shit. It is always more efficient to use the keyboard for navigation. Enjoy your shitty chiclet keys.

>>45638530
track pad is shitty, the case is warped due to throttling, and the battery life lasts me 3 and a half hours. it's a cheap shitty college laptop, but it has the same specs as a mac. the reason got it, is it was something I could replace if I fucked it up, college being what it is in the UK.

You think so because you've never learned how to use a proper one.
> gestures to switch between applications and workspaces
> two finger gestures to go forward, backward and for scrolling
> three finger gestures for drag and drop
Trackpad is directly underneath your keyboard, its less effort to move a hand from the keyboard to your trackpad than it is to move to your mouse. Exposé+Click and clicking what you want is less effort than Alt+Tab+Tab+Tab moving to your mouse and clicking what you want.

Any Windows laptop I've tried had a shitty trackpad that felt muddy to use and could only do a small subset of gestures like that, so I could see why you would want a mouse for those.

not everyone use a laptop for gayman you know. since it's got a PPC it will perform the tasks it was designed for a long time.

I don't use flash or YouTube on this machine, but when I do I either just download the video and view it in some player, or use "MacTube" under OS X which basically streams the video to quicktime. It works just fine for 480p, haven't really tried 720p but I don't imagine it working.
As for the HDD it's a 320GB WD Scorpio.
I have the 1.33GHz model and 1.5GB RAM, and it's been a great laptop over the years that I've owned it.

Debian runs ok, about what you'd expect from a mid-2000s dell, if you've ever used one. I would compare the performance to that of a ~2GHz P4.

It works great for word processing (OpenOffice), music, youtube (using the methods above), and games that were made for macs prior to 2005
>>
>>45640242
Why shouldn't I expect a modern Mac to last 2.5 years past the warranty expiring?

Yeah mactube is where its at on these things. However mine hasnt been working for some reason, keep" timing out" when I go to watch a video. Mine is the lowest end one probably, early 2004 and it still runs great though.
