> Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)
Good
> ASUS ATX DDR3 2600 LGA 1150 Motherboards MAXIMUS VI FORMULA
I very much like the formula boards
> Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600 MHz PC3 12800 240-Pin DDR3 Dual Channel Memory Kit
I'd almost be inclined to recommend 16 gb, but u can upgrade later anyway
> Corsair CX750 Builder Series ATX 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Power Supply
Get a Gold+
> HGST Deskstar 3.5-Inch 1TB 7200 RPM SATA II 32 MB Cache Internal Hard Drive
You can get some very cheap 3tb hdd's
> Corsair Force LX Series Solid State Disk (SSD) 128GB 2.5-Inch
get a 512 ssd. seriously, my 256gb just doesn't do it for me
> ASUS Graphics Cards R9290-DC2OC-4GD5
might be biased fanboy, but nvidia 970/980 are much better.
>>
>>45396213
I've heard that the i7 4790k is really comparable to the i5 3570k in terms of gaming. And that one's way cheaper. Or are you just thinking about the motherboard it attaches to?
>>
>>45396262
Budget is $1600 btw and still missing a CD/DVD drive (Black Friday sales too OP, couldn't find the cheap ones)
>>
>>45396279
Was actually debating whether or not on buying the i5 or i7, but I feel as if the i7 is better, especially when overclocked. idk, just my opinion tbh
>>
>>45396279
Man's a big spender, so he clearly doesn't need to budget anything.
>>
>>45396279
Really? I'm also planning on building a new PC soon, but last I built one was 2 years ago with an i5-3570k. So it's still that good even now. That's interesting.
>>
>>45396262
>You can get some very cheap 3tb hdd's
Are over 1TB hdds reliable now?
>>
>>45396305
most games still don't take advantage of more than four cores, plus CPU technology hasn't been going that fast. GPUs still need to be upgraded often though, I think Nvidia said that when the GTX 760 came out buyers with a two year old GTX 560 could expect double the performance.
>>
>>45396297
i tried budgeting lol, would've been nice if i could, but i got ahead of myself :/
>>
>>45396307
i dont know
>>
>Intel Core i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz)
I'm checking this out and comparing it to the old tried and tested i5-3570k and I can't find any wattage for it. The i5 is like 77 watts.

Also can't seem to find anything on newegg about temperatures on idle and load.
>>
>>45396213
OP, I'm in a generous mood so I'll humor you. So we know you have a max budget of $1600 and I can assume by your build so far that you gare making it for gaming, but what I and the rest of the people in this thread don't know is what you are really trying to accomplish with this build. Are you just trying to max out everything at 1080p? are you going to video editing or 3D modeling or something else that is demanding with this rig? We need more information.
>>
>>45396323
>I think Nvidia said that when the GTX 760 came out buyers with a two year old GTX 560 could expect double the performance.
Ofcourse that's what nvidia would say.
It's bullshit though.

I happen to know the difference in game between the gtx 580 and 780 is about 50 percent when it comes to producing actual framerates. It's a big difference but definately not double, I would expect the same from the 560-760 upgrade

>>45396370
I know this, but it a heck of a lot more than the 6% or so we get every year with new CPU architecture.
>>45396359
use this to figure out how much power you'll need for a rig:
http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
>>
>>45396394
6% is also too much with new cpu architecture.

It's more like 1-3%.

The 2500k still performs almost identical to the 4690k in videogaming for example, especialy when oc'd
>>
>>45396390
This guy has come up with a great $1600 gaming oriented build OP. If you just want the best you can get for $1600, buy that and you won't be disappointed. But there is a lot here that you don't really NEED so that is why I want to know what you really want to do with this rig.
>>
>>45396403
Again, I'm not arguing about exact numbers, I'm just saying that GPUs have been progressing much faster than CPUs,
>>
>>45396403
So what do you get with the 4000 series? Just new mobo architecture, higher wattage, and somewhat better on-board graphics? Future proofing?
>>
>>45396423
pretty much what you said, I'm sure >>45396403
will come up with something small to add in though.
>>
>>45396423
>Just new mobo architecture, higher wattage, and somewhat better on-board graphics?
Pretty much
>>
Wow, just tried shopping for Asus Z77 boards. They're all gone.
>>
Smells like a prebuilt.
>>
>Corsair everything

Jesus Christ.
>>
>>45398139
>Asus Z77 boards
Even the old cheap ones are worth 2x or 3x as it did just a year ago. What happened?
>>
>>45398238
Trying to force people to move on to newer chipsets?
>>
>>45396213
>H55
There is no point in going budget watercooling as similarly priced air cooling will perform much better.
>CX750
You don't need this many watts, I suggest getting a 500+ decent gold unit, decent does not include RM series.
>Vengeance 1600
Although the premium isn't that big, I see no point in paying more for shittier timings
>4790K
You need that? Not trying to say it's a bad idea, but did you actually check what it offers over the 4690K?
>Corsair ssd
Lolno, stick to samsung or crucial, intel is ok too.
>Corsair fans
They actually perform pretty bad compared to their competition, you sure?
>MAXIMUS VI FORMULA
Why the absolute fuck would yo need this?
The UD5H is really cheap right now and smacks the asus pricelike products hard on value.
>1TB HDD
Can't you just get a bit more storage? 1TB is poor value, 2TB is already much better $/TB

TL:DR It sucks dick, don't try to fanboy
>>
>>45396213
An i7 is almost pointless, an i5-4690k would be good enough.

Get a Gold rated PSU, please. Not optional. And 650 is plenty enough, seriously.

Go with a 2TB Barracuda or WD black or something, and maybe even a bigger SSD (although 128 is big enough for me and many others) with the money saved.

Can't comment on the mobo though I think it's really overpriced, and I think the nvidia 970s are better value for your GPU.
>>
>>45398324
>i5-4690k
Is this the 4th generation's i5-3570k?
>>
>>45398343
50/50
I'd say the 4th gernartion 3570K is the 4670K, 4690K has tiny eenie weenie better IPC and slightly boosted clocks.
Up to you.
>>
>>45398372
4690K is apparently cheaper by 20 USD and has less heat issues than the 4670K. Wait, why is the superior CPU cheaper than the inferior one?
>>
>>45398415
Probably because it's discontinued and the sellers don't have many 4670K's left.
>>
>>45398324
why gold rated? that's just added costs, bronze is enough, won't actually change much beyond slight percentage difference in electricity bull
>>
first of all op
You are definitely not going to use most of that power
Unless you're animating on the side you're just wasting money.

Do more research please

But if you do know what you're doing then get a 80 plus gd and Intel ssd
>>
>>45398442
Bronze rated PSUs are usually good enough, but the best modern OEM platforms which have superior voltage regulation and DC ripple/noise are all Gold rated or higher. See these:
