How stupid is it at the moment to upgrade from a GTX 970 to a GTX 980ti?
Should i go with the meme til 1xxx comes or should i just sell my old gtx 970 for 300€ and get a new 980ti for 680€?
pic related would be the 980ti i would buy
>>
Had a GTX 970, sold it and went for a GTX 980 Ti even though Pascal is supposed to be there Q2 2016.

Honestly I kinda regret it since:

1- It heats up much more (about 20 degrees more), and therefore the fans are much louder;
2- The GTX 980 Ti cost me more than twice as much as I sold my GTX 970 for;
3- I can't see the performance difference in 1080p over my GTX 970. Sure, I score about 60% higher in Firestrike with my GTX 980 Ti, and it has 6GB GDDR5 vs 3.5GB, but it doesn't matter much in 1080p.

I guess it's a different story if you're playing in 1440p or higher though.

Just get another 970. It can game at 4K pretty well.

I upgraded to play @ 4k.I'd sayit was worth it, but I think I'm gonna upgrade to the next nvidia / amd flagship when they roll around
>>
If you are playing 1080p dont.
If 4k yes.
It's that easy

Why would you upgrade? What game can't you run? What would be the actual benefit for 380€?

If that performance increase is worth 380€ to you right now then sure go ahead. But honestly I'd just wait for Pascal if I were you.
>>
for what do you need it?
probably nothing
>>
I'd be surprised if gtx 1080 or whatever the flagship is actually is faster to the point of relevancy than 980 ti without a significant price difference. Essentially I'd look at ti class cards as just buying the next generation early.

Yeah, but if they wait, the 980 price will drop.

Nvidia cards aren't stable in their pricing between tiers from generation to generation. 700 series card were significantly more at launch than 900 series. For all we know pascal flagship could go back to costing $650 like the 780. Then having a 980 ti a seven months early for $50 less looks like a pretty good deal.
>>
I'd say wait for next gen, 970 is more than enough for 1080p. And it will probably be the best 1080p card until mid 2017.

Yeah true lol think ill just stay a little longer with my 970 and just save money for now
