Of course it doesn't feel like rumble from loudspeakers/subwoofer which can actually play that low without dropping. How it sounds to the ear is the same though and those rumble frequencies are not present in a lot music. Being just a few dB shy from neutral at 30Hz is a pretty decent extension albeit it's still colored there. I'd argue it's quite a minimal thing and something you could just boost with EQ.

>>51725585
Very good actually but kinda needs a decent input. Can be pretty hissy thanks to the shitty on-board ADCs.

>>51725612
Local shops idk? They last years if you treat them well. DT770s have replaceable pads and shit available from online easily so those will be a good option if you want your headphones to last for years. I'm set with a single pair of headphones and equalizer preset for them. I don't need anything more.

>>51725634
I have a system which can play below 30Hz. It's a completely fair comparison to make. Nobody is saying you feel a rumble from headphones.

I have to say I like speakers more but I can also say that there might be a preference to headphones in some cases.

>>51725661
You tape the ModMic's magnetic base with a single piece of adhesive tape to whatever headphone you use. They hold onto metal mesh just as well as on plastics.

>>51725720
Instead of going for the shill meme every single time you could argue. Shitposting is weak and killing this thread.

If one likes neutral sound and wanted an upgrade from a Sony V6 would HD600 fit the bill?

I'm not sure what to do since some say it's veiled and not neutral and others say it's the most neutral.

I just want the frequencies to sound not exaggerated like on the V6 where bass, mids and highs are equally present.

not him but the hd600 is balanced, but it is not neutral, no headphone is neutral. it measures close to DF (usually) but so do other headphones. It still has coloration and a signature like any headphone. any headphone that isn't very colored in one direction can be considered balanced. the hd600 like almost all mainline sennheirsers is mid-forward and light in the bass, with somewhat veiled upper mids and highs. It is the most balanced in it's series though, which is why it's considered better than the 650.

I mean I get that you can prefer specifics of the build like how the cups move but the actual quality of the build being better is something I doubt very much. hifiman is known for poor build quality, x2 is v-moda tier.
>>

it's a matter of contact im sure cause it catches on sometimes then goes away again.

>>
>>51727400
if you like the JVC you'll like the m100 better. the momentum isn't bassy, it's mildly warm with strong treble roll off.
>>
>>51727580
Didn't they improve on it with the 400i's though?
>>
>>51727580
>x2 is v-moda tier

except for the earpads leaking dye, right?
>>
>>51727580
I get what you mean, there is indeed more metal and a tough quality to the X2, if you dropped the 400i on the ground it would probably get damaged more likely, but in the end the itchy linty pads on the X2 and clamp on my big head just really annoyed me, and I was pleasantly surprised at the construction quality and aesthetics that the Hifiman's had chink or not.
>>
>>51727612
not that guy, and i dont have 400is yet, but i have to agree with him. the comfort and build quality of the x2 are probably its best features, i cant really see the 400i beating it here.

i absolutely love my x2. the reasons im also getting a 400i are:
1. ive never heard planar magnetic before, and these are at a good price for the flat bass they have. they also have amazing mids which are very important for me, as a lot of the time im actually watching movies, so voices will be wonderfully natural. this is actually one of the weaker points of the x2, or at least, what i read them to be. to me, they ARE recessed no doubt, but i think most exaggerate. it's not something i would complain about. still though, the 400i have them beat without a doubt here.
2. treble should be a bit smoother as well. my x2 have a very heavy peak at 5k that i have to reduce, or symbols will sound very very weird and sibilant, among other things in that range. i mention symbols specifically because it completely ruins most rock music. vocals also sometimes will exhibit it when peaking and that sounds bad too, but doesnt happen as often.
3. that sale price

in short, im expecting the 400i to just be plain better in virtually every regard, based on graphs... well see how the experience ends up though
>>
>>51727709
yes, this was quite strange but i confirmed it with my pair. it seems to only come out on paper though, as theres nothing on my desk/table/head at all, so i couldnt find myself caring that much

>>
>>51727796
you might be in for a surprise because they're both so different. X2s are bassy while the 400i are neutral in the low end. If you don't like neutral then you might be disappointed. objectively speaking the 400i are better in regards to sound.

"I used Z for X amount of time, then used Y for X amount of time.

>>

oh i know. ive seen the graphs. the bass extension without the treble spike that my x2s have would sell them on their own. and if the mids are as good as people say they are, that will make them the perfect headphone for me, as i said voicals are very important to me too.

i just completely expect them to deliver the exact signature im looking for. it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

>>
>>51728394
I used moon audio cables for 1 month, then used coconut audio cables for 2 months.
Here's how they sounded different to me. First of all i've been using the LCD Xs as a test bench. After through analysis i can confirm that coconut audio cables are far superior when it comes to delivering crisp effortless highs and enrich the mids to an understanding level of
clarity. With moon audio cables (silver dragon) i noticed slight degradation of timbre and bass became unwieldy, almost as if i hadn't tamed the dragon. Overall i rate the coconut audio cables a smooth 10/10 for delivering unfathomable improvements to my analog set up.

think the 400i are capable doing mildly bassy/warm well with eq? on measurements it has a very slight upwards tilt towards 1k. I want to reverse that, maybe add a bit more lower bass, and even out the upper mids and highs a bit.

How do you cope with the fact that even the most expensive headphone setup doesn't sound nearly as good as a basic stereo setup?

Yeah, enjoy that 'wide soundstage' that just sounds like shit coming in from left/right of your head. Widest soundstage? Yeah, so wide it sounds like the music is playing behind your head. I lol when people say a pair of headphones have great imaging... wtf... you must have never listened to a live concert let alone a pair of speakers.

Enjoy the delusion... heaphones are the memest of memes in the audio world. you basic bitches would probably pay $100 for usb cables next.

Many people buying headphone is usually for some portability and simple setting. Because many people that buying kilobucks headphone usually have home setting and found it hassle as you'll need to mobile to live in current time, hence where the demand come from.

When editing/mixing, usually big studio will use speaker and headphones aren't really designed with neutral soundsignatures because there were many factor to count for make headphones completely neutral for everyone.

prove to me headphones sound accurate in representation of a true stereo soundstage. Yeah, enjoy sound that is clearly defined by left/right audio streams that is TOTALLY unnatural. There's no speaker thread. Do you guys like speakers? I'm thinking of replacing my 2.1 computer speakers with bookshelves and don't really know how to pick a pair. I do some searching and find some review recommending a $70 pair as a good budget setup, then I find another review covering dozens of speakers across the price spectrum that indicates that it has shit bass.

A cursory search makes me think Pioneer SP-BS22-LR might be a good choice, but still, i don't know. Trying to keep under $100 - including the amp would be nice (2020A is budget de facto?).

that will become all the time with those speakers anyway. there isn't a headphone on the planet that can even compare to them. not to say they're -that- good (you can still do much better as far as speakers go), it's just that headphones are bad.

only con of loudspeakers is lacking bass response which can be fixed with a subwoofer (which will have much better bass at equivalent frequencies to a headphone)

no headphone can otherwise match the response of even a $200 pair of speakers over 50hz.

room treatment is additional if you really want the highest level of fidelity which is so far beyond headphones it's not even funny.
>>
>>51731468
>>51731472
I guess I'll keep it under consideration. How about the amp, then? The Lepai that seemed the typical budget choice appears to actually have power supply problems and I gather would hold back better speakers anyway.
>>
>>51731550
they are each bi-amped with two 41w class d amps. (so the tweeter and woofer are getting 41w each) you don't need a separate amp
>>

might creep up here or there but it's normally only really important for movies and music where there's actually information purposely put down there. unless you're listening to some heavy organ jams

I got a Magnavox 75w powered sub for $12 the other day for my upstairs bookshelves. Those speakers would go down to 36hz on their own anyway. It still makes a difference, especially anything with recorded kick drums. Really happy with that system considering it was only about $50 all said and done.

My downstairs old Technics CR-77's hooked up to my TV don't need a sub because the woofers are already so big.

Nothing too special. KGSSHV, I got in a trade and finished up. Fiddling with it right now and upgrading some parts so I'm listening through my rebuilt SRA-12S with pro bias in the meantime. Nice thing about the old 70-80's era solid state stax amps, they got a little more current than a lot of the modern ones so they can drive the harder stuff like omegas better, just a little less delicately. The gilmore amp does both though.

I didn't have an issue with the comfort. The headband in the M50 is reinforced by metal, and so you can straighten out the headband without breaking it to remove most of the clamping pressure pretty quickly. The issue with the M50 was mainly that I didn't like the sound signature. It sounded rather tinny. I actually like the bass on it though.

Bass port in the Mk II causes an elevated midbass hump, though you can plug it up and it will flatten back out. There's about four different diaphram variations among the models as well between 1997 and now too that measure a bit differently.

I love the ability of my backup orthos to be able to plug into basically any amp, including speaker amps without a problem. The stax are lighter and more comfortable than any of my old ortho's though. I wouldn't say that about the lambda I used to own but it's true for the round stuff.
