Search the internet for sample interview questions and talk through them online. On your cover letter, emphasize that you want to learn more, that you are career focused, and are passionate about technology. Make sure to learn about the company and what they do, be ready to make your own suggestions and ABSOLUTELY ask questions. Ask a lot of questions, sound interested, make eye contact.
Also, dont have pink hair. Make sure you're clean shaved and dressed professionally. I'm in Utah, and I wear a CTR ring (mormon thing) even though Im not really a mormon.

that should be enough to get your 40k a year, after that get your CCNA, a little bit more tough but that puts your salary up to around 60. VCP-DCV is a great cert to have these days, its expensive but if you're working as a ccna network tech, sometimes the companies will pay for it. VCP certs get you around 80-90k with 3 years experience.
Thats a pretty good path for the future, once you get there you'll know what you're doing, best of luck

If you want to work with servers get on the cloud engineering path. Everything is moving that direction. In 10 years the sysadmin role will look much different than today since much of the things we do will be provided aaS instead of hosted on prem. I anticipate that as we see internet bandwidth cheapen and network bandwidth increase you'll see even storage and VDI move off prem.
A real game changer will be once we start seeing affordable 10Gb switches. Like when Netgear and Linksys start making $100 8 port unmanaged 10GbE switches. It'll drive down the price of 40/100gig and L2ME may make more sense for businesses. I don't think anyone expected. 1GbE to be leader for so long. I remember when I had 1GbE switched network at home and I'd have people fighting over who got to move into my empty room.

I moved from the SF Bay Area to a not-so-small city in Oregon. It's amazing, as soon as you get out of Portland here it turns into backwarter bumfuck tard-land. OP, spend your time in the shop wisely. Learn about VLANs, ACLs, cross connects, VPNs, firewalls, Cisco, AD, etc. If there's any old equipment available, make your own fileserver for your AV software. Get a raspberry pi at home and make it a VPN server with openvpn. Learn Linux. The shop is a great place to learn and you could double your salary in 6 months if you learn fast. I'm under 25 and I already make what my parents raised me on.
Also make sure you use Tron for your virus removals. The only thing you have to run manually is ComboFix. Before I left the shop I had completely automated my job thanks to Tron. It's on reddit.
