Still literally no proof provided by that guy I see. He's posted pictures of a GOG profile and ranted on and on, yet can't perform the simple task of providing some actual proof that he owns the card and that his motherboard no longer works.

Delightful.
>>
>>55374522
Can you read?

>*EDIT* Many people requested pictures, so here they are, attached. Note the error code "d6" on the motherboard when the card is in slot 1. d6 means that VGA is not detected.

>*EDIT 2* With the help of the community we've discovered that the left most side of the PCI-E slot did indeed get burned. This is new damage and it is the reason the slot no longer functions. GPU temperature at the time of failure was only 78C, we'll within normal ranges. In case it's relevant, CPU Temps were 52-54C on each core. This leads me to the ultimate conclusion that the 480 overdrawing on power did indeed burn out the slot. And just to keep count, 3 other people on this thread are claiming to have the same issue as well so far.

Why can't AMD do ANYTHING right?
They released a card that is worse than the fucking gimped 970 and that it literally damages your computer.

Because if you are 10 years behind in terms of technology, you have to cut corners.
People will fall for it and in the end noone cares. The people who buy AMD cards usually get them for their first gaming pc, they don't know a lot about the subject and they don't have a lot of money. People who have their shit together and do actual research will just stick with nvidia cards, because they know that they are worth the money.

i remember i built my first gaming pc and i got amd card, never again after that, the card died simply because i touched it and gaved of static to the card. That shit happend before and after nvidia cards, but never did nvidia card died. It just seems amd uses cheaper components to undercut nvidia.

They've really done it this time. I guess the constant drive to catch up to Nvidia led them to cut corners and now they're going to either get slammed with lawsuits or end up replacing everyone's 480s with other cards.

Can you read?
>overclocked @1350mhz

A lot of cards draw more than 75w through the pcie slot when overclocked. THATS WHY OVERCLOCKING NULLIFIES YOUR WARRANTY!

Also exploding pcie slots with oc is one of the most common failures apart from exploding voltage regulators. Are people this dumb?

Fags should watch this and dispel all delusional beliefs. 6 pin is not an issue. The issue is PCI-e draw AVERAGE WITHOUT OVERCLOCK goes well ABOVE the spec and puts your motherboard in danger.

AMD's fix should probably be proper load balance between PCI-E and 6-pin. Current load balance is fucked up.

A 30:70 ratio instead of 50:50 ratio like it is right now. On top of this, they could lower the stock voltage for bit more overclock room.

If they can do this, then this would be fixed.
>>
>>55376246
>If they can do this, then this would be fixed.
Until the 6-pin goes massively over limit and starts melting as well.
>>
>>55376279
6 pin can draw 150w average without issue. Difference between 6 pin and 8 pin is simply 2 extra grounds
>>
>>55376319
>Optional connectors add 75 W (6-pin) or 150 W (8-pin) power for up to 300 W total (2Ă—75 W + 1Ă—150 W)

At least try to be better at reading specs than AMD R&D.
>>
>>55376327
Going out of spec is not an issue on 6 pin because those wires 6 can handle tons of wattage. Its the issue with PCI E that kills the motherboard.

Stop being retard.
>>
>>55376365
You do know that 8-pin has one extra +12v in addition to one extra ground over 6-pin and not 2 extra ground, right?
>>
>>55374473
wtf kid of potato computer is he running he doesn't even have a rear fan give me a break this is some supreme retardation and I don't even like the 480
>>
>>55376412
I don't know what pixie dust you use in your builds, but rear fans don't help PCIe slot getting burned out.
>>
>>55376381
Right.

But this is irrelevant to AMD"s issue. Offloading more power to 6 pin is what they should be doing because 6 pin can handle well past 75w.
>>
>>55376500
Then you're merely shifting the chance of damage from low/mid-end motherboards to low/mid-end PSUs. AMD did not do themselves any favours when they decided to go after low/mid-end market with a card that goes over spec.

People don't stick these fuckers in monster motherboards with monster PSUs unless they do benchmarking for a living.

This. Just use ATI and be done with it.
>>
>>55376531
You'd have to have a complete trash tier $10 psu to fuck that up really.

The 6 pins officially only carry 75w @ 2amp on each 12v however molex specifications suggests 8amp. So you if you pull 3amp(~110w), it would be well within safety range.
>>
>>55376430
surely lack of cooling couldn't have contributed anything to the fact that his motherboard got fried
nope not at all computers love heat especially after some loser has time to sit on his ass for 7 hours straight playing video games
>>
>>55376847

Yes, we get it. You're pissed off that AMD is ahead of Nvidia in the sub $250 segment of the market, but the least you could do is keep to your home board of /v/ when you act like the pathetic fanboys that you are.
>>
>>55376279

Pretty sure they are first in creating a card so power starved it breaks all specs and you can overclock just by upping the power envelope on it. Zero clocks need to be touched.

Huge fuck up with the 6-pin from AMD

I am sorry but the whole argument about nvidia being overpriced is a bit of a hit and miss. Think about the 970 -- after 2 years it's still going strong and there was never any shortage of opportunity to get it a bargain prices. Think about it, despite the insluting arrogance of nvidia (3,5g meme) the card STILL holds its own and delivers great performance for its price, with lots of OC headroom and very good tdp. What was AMD's answer? The 390 which though slightly better is also slightly more expensive and generates nuclear reactor-tier amounts of heat.

It seems many people were excited about the rx480 because it would put AMD in the front seat in terms of providing great performance for a small price.

But they fucked up, because that's what they do. One fucking pin more, is that so much to ask?
>>
>>55377596
2 pins actually. Although they should have just equipped it with 2 6 pins like the GTX 970.
>>
>>55377639
but they already came up with this marketing, they can't backtrack now, lets release the card and hope no one notices the PCI-E slot draw
150w card amirite?
>>
>>55377831
I'm not enjoying this "lel we use low power (actually we are lying)" trend that is going on.
>>
>>55378035
They probably did achieve this then decided before market to overcurrent the card in order to boost it over the 970

>When you see something that is not an argument.
>>
>>55378088
But that's literally not achieving it. I mean my GTX 980 takes like 150W or less because I've set the power limiter to -30%, but that doesn't mean the GTX 980 is a card that uses 150W. It comes out of factory using much more than that.

What matters is not what the card is theoretically capable of, but what it actually enters the market with.
