Hey Anon. Yeah, you, posting the fedora pepe to try and make fun of us adblockers...

Thank you. Thank you for turning on ads so the rest of us don't have to. Do us all a favor and continue doing that.

In the mean time, I and the rest of /g/ are just going to continue blocking ads on every site. After all, people like you, who feel guilty about not supporting the websites they visit are just going to continue to view the ads, so we have no reason to. The bills are still going to get paid with or without our contribution.

Try not to get viruses. We'd hate to have you join us after realizing that advertisements are a common vector for distributing malware, and are now being used to distribute malware to mobile users.
>>
Why does everyone try to justify adblocking? What's wrong with saying "I am able to do it and I prefer it"?

Because money is involved.

A LOT of money.

And huge corporations like Google.

It will probably be a legal issue soon, and affect everyone.

Better get your arguments ready now.
>>
>>55295222
Exactly why people get all defensive and make walls of text when you point out that piracy is bad. Because they do feel guilt.

They're both bad for the industry. I'm still going to do them because I can.

I think the OP arguments are good, but sadly they won't hold up if you circumvent adblock-killing scripts.
>>
>>55295253
Honestly I feel worse about pirating shit than I do about blocking ads. Not that I give a shit, but if I had to rank it, anyway.

If they had never become so fucking intrusive, I wouldn't block them, but when they take up over half the screen space, overlay the page, auto play or come with malware, I just can't fucking take it.
>>
>>55295222
This is my reasoning, though I whitelist sites I care a lot about and I haven't pirated any games since I got a job.
>>
Don't give a shit.
Adverts are why facebook exists, why google is now king of the earth, and why privacy is dead.
>>
>>55295233
Ad blocking began because a majority of ads were intrusive, poorly designed, and in some cases predatory for the end user. If Google Adsense and other websites put harsh requirements on ads and websites work with UI designers to get them to fit the style of the website, then I may enable adblocker once more.

Unfortunately, companies have gone a much darker route, instead paying for advertisements diguised as news articles, and hit ads in normal operations of a site. Legislation needs to put limits on both parties ways, in my opinion.
>>
When I dont use adblocker I dont even notice any ads.

I dont know what you guys visit that gives you malware and popups.
>>
I'm not sure it's worth talking to someone who doesn't see the value in blocking ads. I don't want to see them, and I don't want to pay to download them. So I don't. It's that simple. SJWs who "feel like" I'm cheating companies out of money may feel free to kill themselves.

I'd be totally fine with all ad-driven websites disappearing as a result of ad blocking. They've driven relative ad value as low as possible in an effort to make as much money as possible.

The internet was a better place when websites were run by hobbyists who actually cared about their sites.

A website is a set of instructions to a browser on what to display.
Seeing as it's my browser running on my hardware, it's only reasonable that I should be the ultimate authority on what it does.
>>
>>55295068
Unrequested online ads get blocked because they:

- are in the form of popups
- have sound
- use flashy animation
- use distracting colours
- contain questionable content
- contain malware
- take up bandwidth
- take up too much space on a page

Fix your advertising style, or get blocked. Very simple.

I don't like to see ads and I don't like paying for content if I can get it for free with no consequences.

I can see that this is a problem for content producers but I don't care. If they really start to enforce copyrights or ads I'll have to rethink my position.

I sometimes feel bad for pirating games and programs since it actually does take a certain amount of knowledge, risk, and effort to make a game/program, but that's how I decide whether or not I want to give my money to a developer. Same with books. I feel a little less bad when pirating suites like Adobe and MS Office, though..

The MPAA/RIAA, Jewlywood, and advertisers can blow me, though. None of those people are actually struggling from day to day and don't actually want to contribute in any positive way to society. I'll happily bleed them for every cent I can.

Seriously, if you think there exists an advertising company that isn't also in the information selling business, you're deluded.

Why do you think there's such a high premium for “personalized ads”? Information has a price. If they have any opportunity to get their own hands on it, they sure as hell will.

Why is everybody relating this to piracy? I see the two issues as completely separate. I didn't ask for ads but I certainly had motive if I pirated media

I have blocked ads since like 2008 and the other day I used a friends computer and jesus christ every should just block them.

It should be illegal to spam people as hard as they do now with ads.

I didn't realize the internet is almost unusable with ads left unchecked.
>>
>>55295068
Ads are a cancer that need to be surpressed, in a world where you can find everything you need in a click ads are useless, they don't bring anything to society and they only exist to waste time and space on the internet, on newspapers and magazines, on the tv.

So, what's the purpose of this thread?
>>
Like a few posters said the main reason we have to block ads today as /g/ users is to avoid malware, conserve bandwidth and system resources, and of course because the overall quality of the internet as dropped as the years gone by. Gone are the years of fans making sites and now we have people whoring themselves out with the most basic of junk content and stuffing ads on them to make money off of it.
>>
>>55295068
I block ads because I do not want to see them. No matter what changes are/aren't made by the industry I will continue to block ads. I don't like them, I won't see them.
>>
>>55295352
>Ad blocking began because a majority of ads were intrusive, poorly designed, and in some cases predatory for the end user.
Nah ads are cancer. I don't give a shit about a particular website, if he must dies, another one will replace it. I WON'T EVER disable my adblocker.
I do the same with tv and radio, I switch whenever they put ads.

We need to encourage normies to not use adblock. They do not deserve the ability to block ads. Any developer who makes an easy adblock solution should be arrested. We already have the /etc/hosts file which is easy in and of itself but beyond the grasp of normalfags. If we make it hard for notmies to block ads they'll just give up and live with ads and provide the financial support needed for online businesses that rely on ad revenue.
