Sway is an i3-compatible compositor for Wayland.

https://github.com/SirCmpwn/sway

As of today: wallpaper support (pic related)

Recently: Improvements to multihead support, wayland+cairo client support code, better i3 socket handling, WIP screenshot support, bugfixes.

what is this exactly
A different wm with the same config or a compositor like compton?
And how stable is it
>>
>>51428176
It's a Wayland compositor, which means xorg is not involved. It uses the same config file format as i3 and supports the same featureset.

It's a WIP but usable as a daily driver (I use it myself). Does not crash in the middle of your session.
>>
>>51428063
getting quite cryptic errors when trying to run it (either from x session with i3 or tty), think you could guess what the problem is?
here are the errors:
Error: Signal 11. Printing backtrace

Maybe something to do with my display, as it shits at apply_output_config?
Using the default settings file, btw.
Machine is acer c720p chromebook running antergos with sway installed from aur package.

Thanks for the effort, perhaps one day even I can enjoy the glory that is a tiling wm on wayland.

GO BACK TO REDDIT FAGGOT.

You think I don't know who you are? You're a fucking cocky, arrogant prick.
>>

This
Competent developers building decent software don't belong here
>>
>>51429080
Honestly man, I'm fucking tired of them. /g/ should be filled with people who don't even know what big-O is, like usual.
>>
>>51428063
I tried switching to sway but it lagged like hell and looked like shit.

I'd love to fix my tearing issues but I don't think sway is a good enough replacement for i3 to make the switch.
>>
>>51429177
If a window manager as simple as sway lagged, you did something stupid to fuck up your compositor
>>
>>51429177
Same guy: Other deal breakers include no tabbed or stacked layouts, and no bar.

I'd really love to use it, but it just isn't working out for me. If you have any tips, I'd love to hear them.
>>
>>51429214
>use WIP window manager
>complain about not yet having planned features
Fuck off
>>
>>51429206
I just built it straight out of the AUR and ran `sway' on tty2. Was there something else I should have done?

i3 + X works smoothly, though.

>>51429240
Fair enough. I was just giving the reasons I'm not using it /yet/.
>>
>>51428063
This seems interesting.

However, is there any reason i should use it over compton?

Does it work well with intel?
>>
>>51428755
>Ponies
>IT'S [CURRENT YEAR]
Interesting topic, it's a shame that he ruined his (otherwise nice) explanation with memes and being australian in general.
>>
>>51429177
What's up with people complaining about tearing issues?
Either add smooth video to the xorg if you're on Intel, install the proprietary drivers if you're on nvidia or AMD, or just use Compton with glx rendering.
Its not fucking rocket science damn
>>
>>51429544
>is there any reason i should use it over compton?
It's not comparable to compton because Sway is not an X compositor. Sway is a display server with window management and compositing built in utilizing the wayland protocol. Wayland is supposedly faster and more secure than X
