How did Google become the internet's censor and master manipulator, blocking access to millions of websites?

I wonder what it needs to have a real competitor, seems like their marketshare is just too overwhelming.

will 2016 be the year all of /g/ starts using yacy as their main search engine?

>Google also maintains a list of properties it either blacks out or blurs out in its images. Some are probably military installations, some the residences of wealthy people, and some – well, who knows? Martian pre-invasion enclaves? Google doesn't say.

Google is unethical and expresses extreme bias towards certain politicians on the political spectrum, You're objectively wrong.

Is there really a single thing on that list read and didn't think to yourself "Yeah of course that sounds perfectly reasonable. I can see exactly why they would do that."

Blurring my licence plate number on google maps isn't censoring me by any fucking stretch of the term.

Great. So now the government and media conglomerates are gonna censor search results. That's much better. Call us criminals for getting use out of fair use, but now that your stupid homecoming contest is threatened, you get worried. Well too bad. Google controls the law too. Just try to get something legislated against them, and they'll insight a well timed flash mob of complaints against you within your constituency by ignorant but well instructed voters. They are the new big dick in town. You should have sucked them first. Now the results are in. Google votes for Hillary. She wins. It will not be close. All because no one cared enough about online privacy to keep them from learning how to manipulate the masses on an individual level. You should be mad at the W3C for writing standards that make online fingerprinting so powerful and universal, not google. They were only acting according to their nature as a corporation. But now they are in control. Maybe start watching professional wrestling. That has about as much drama, and it's less expensive.

This guy would be complaining so much louder and with much better reason if google rolled back even a single one of these policies.

Can you fucking imagine the headlines if google disabled the ability for people to to opt out of their house being visible from google earth? Or if little kid's searches for "My Little Pony" autocompleted to the real most popular searches for that?

He wants his master to be the censor instead of them. He doesn't care why that isn't the case already. He wants it.

>When you type "crooked" on Bing, "crooked Hillary" pops up instantly.
But it doesn't (for me).

What we probably have here is a case of algorithms that are designed to attempt to deliver results (even in autocomplete) that are most likely to be related to what you would be searching for.
As I don't look up anything to do with American politicians I am either equally likely (or more likely) to be searching an address (which crooked hill is apparently common) than about Hillary, though lying Ted has less clashes with it.

>it has frozen when people typed words like "torrent," "bisexual" and "penis."
But it doesn't.
Or did these people have safe search on? It would probably affect results.

Granted, I get no suggestions for clitoris, but that might be because if you are searching for clitoris it probably doesn't need to suggest anything.
