Welcome to /fglt/. We are always open to users of all levels, including absolute beginners.
There are four ways to try GNU/Linux, you can:
0) Install a GNU/Linux OS on a VM (Virtual Machine/VirtualBox) for "safety purposes"
1) Use the Live ISO directly without installing anything, that way, you can get a "full GNU/Linux experience".
2) Dual-boot GNU/Linux with Windows/Mac (recommended if you want to learn more about GNU/Linux)
3) Go balls...

i saw someone on /g/ insist that a handful of honorary doctorates equate to a real one, as if JK Rowling's 7 doctorates should earn her almost as much esteem as a real doctorate. except in this context of course they were arguing that RMS's 12 should have additive credibility somehow.
it was the most obvious case of appeal to bandwagon that one could imagine; it was such clearly horse shit-eating apologist logic; i loved it.

I have bad news for you OP.

I miss my Voodoo 2.
There was a great framework somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable API ecosystem that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in compilers and IDEs. If you've got a progran – you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen.

CS students-
What was the hardest part of your curriculum? Mine personally is coping with other Computer Science students. Why are they all such ridiculous cunts?
>tfw I'm one of the few people who actually has any interest in CS
>tfw the rest are just normies who were told they have to go to college after high school but really don't know why they're here
When you're stuck on an assignment, some asshole from your current year or previous years will have everything public on GitHub.

Is liquid cooling just a money-wasting meme for modders or is it actually useful for reducing noise or extending the life of the computer?
It's quieter.
I guess it's possible that it increases the life of components because it reduces thermal shock of rapid heating and cooling.
>>54921952
if you have to get rid of a thousand watts of heat it is indeed the only way to do that at an acceptable noise level.
most people don't overclock that far though. You should only build a loop if doing so sounds like a fun hobby project to you, that's the real reason to do it.
>>54921952
to get a quiet and efficient cooler there is literally TWO options
get a liquid cooler
or
get a big ass noctua that takes up 90% of the case
What will you do in 2020 when support for Windows 7 ends?
install gentoo
2020 will be year of Linux on the desktop.
>>54921935
Like XP, still using it. I don't do any updates anyways.
>To make up ground, VLC is now rolling out version 2.0 on Android. According to VideoLAN Organization, the latest version of the media player offers network disk browsing, video playlists, and revamped UI elements. Another major change is the option to merge Android TV and Android versions. In simple words, you can use the Android TV interface on your phones and tablets. The team has also improved the TV interface, both in terms of aesthetics and performance.
>Here’s the official changelog:
>Introduces a large number of features, notably network disk browsing (Windows shares, UPnP, NFS, FTP, SFTP…), favorite folders and URLs, video playlists, rewritten notifications and control and a rewritten history.
>It is also a merge of Fire TV and Fire versions, so that every device can optionally get the Fire TV interface. The TV interface has been improved quite a bit too.
>Finally, it should be faster to decode and playback all video types.

What was /g/'s first smartphone? And how much did you like it/hate it?
Do you miss it?
Mine was pick related
Sony Ericsson Xperia X8
No flash, not zoom, no way to refocus the camera, no multi-touch screen but honestly, it was comfy af
It could go a day or two without charging it and it only had a 1200 mah battery, and fit perfectly in that small pocket trousers have on the right side where clocks were supposed to go
If only it had a dual touch screen it would make the perfect gba emulator machine
>>54921535
Sony Ericsson xperia x10 mini pro.
Could see the pixels and the screen was tiny, but that keyboard was comfy as fuck.
Also, what are some classic must haves from back then? Shit like pimp my rom .
HTC P3600.
It was shit and slow on windows mobile 6.
O2 XDA back in the day.
New /bst/, comfy edition
I feel like there's been an unnecessary amount of battlestation threads lately.
anyway, sweet cat!
>>54920911
Like that you've dropped the LEDs (at least in public)
Cat is nice, bulletin board is nice, cat is nice. guts look okay, casee is meh, monitor could be better. Keyboard is meh.
>>54920929
Maybe I'm alone on this but I don't like TVs above battle stations.
Concur that there are too many /bst/s these days.
>>54920947
>guts look okay, casee is meh, monitor could be better. Keyboard is meh.
The Case is already 5 or 6 years old, but has very good ventilation (3x200mm Fan + 2x120mm). It sadly has no good cablemanagment stuff and I will buy a new one, when my computer gets too slow
I haven't decided on a new Monitor yet, as I think that there isn't such a big difference and 4k 60fps is pretty expensive. (Also, there isn't that much 4k Video Content yet, so I will wait some time).
Why people say Python is shit?
