Hey /g/, /o/ here
as automotive technology advances, how dependent of software development will the car industry be?
Tesla as an example, has been able to increase the range and so on of their EV's with simple software updates, and as more manufacturers release more EV's, shouldn't the industry need more and more codemonkeys/compsci neets like us as time passes instead of mechanical engineers?
Or will the automotive industry always be dominated by mechanical engineers?
tl;dr - do you see software development becoming a bigger part in...

>how dependent of software development will the car industry be?
It already is, you retard.
This is why technical boards are shit, no one knows anything.

>Tesla as an example, has been able to increase the range and so on of their EV's with simple software updates
I'm not sure that's exactly an accurate characterization. More like they've been able to cripple it with software you can pay to remove.

okay, i see
Could you go more in depth of what processes of developing a car involve software development, besides general car entertainment interfaces?
ECU mapping doesn't count either
no need to be so rude, anon
thanks
Not sure what I need/want to upgrade. Some people are telling me the graphics card is my problem, others say the CPU is holding me back.
Specs (pic related):
>Asus P8H77-M PRO/CM6870 Motherboard
>MSI GTX 970 GPU
>Intel Core i5 3450 CPU
>12GB DDR3 RAM
>EVGA 500w PSU
I do use two monitors (going to be same resolution soon). One is a 1920x1080, other is 1600x900.
Mostly play games that are CPU...

Your operating system
>>55015375
Using windows 7. Is windows 10 really that much of a help or something?
>>55015442
Install Gentoo, my man.
Linux still doesn't detect if a video is playing and dims your screen according to your power management setting
>inb4 install caffeine or turn off all power saving settings

>Linux still doesn't detect if a video is playing
works on my machine :^)

Can you be more specific with your software of choice - are you talking about browser or some dedicated player?

Not a real programmer. How long would it take one of you professionals to make a game like stack or dropple on ios? Just curious, not looking for anything.
>professionals
>>55015009
I mean professionals being someone paid to do work, you know, its definition.
As a followup, what about apps like snapchat or whatsapp? Aside from setting up back end and funding for servers or whatever, how long would it take someone who was good at their job and had all of the guidelines to make it?

4 months. 2 weeks if it's a botched up POS
Why is ALSA being garbage right now?
Pulseaudio is even bigger garbage, at least with alsa I don't have a cracking mic input...
Ever since PulseAudio became the norm on popular distros like Ubuntu, nobody compiles their binaries for ALSA anymore thus shit breaks if you don't use PulseAudio
Example:

nvidia shield or amazon fire TV...which one?
im leaning toward the shield since it has usb3, and recently announced plex. just need to get a NAS now. any suggestions on those?
and in general discuss setups for cord-cutters.
>>55014858
rasp pi
>>55014876
elaborate? dist/libraries/peripherals used? i personally wouldnt get a pi for all this because i dont want to spend hours dicking around with it.
Nvidia shield is the shiznit. Very streamlined and simple to use.
no properties, no location, can't close it
I'm fucked, right?
>can't close it
are you even trying bro

>winblows

Botnet?
you are fucked LOL
did you try to open file location?
if you got an ssd maybe you can search the filename and hope it hasn't hidden itself somewhere : ^)
Why is there a major price gap in consoles and pcs? Consoles are capable of performing as modern desktops, yet they are locked down to only play games. A modern gaming PC however, at least $600?
The cost of having set up the console in such a way that it requires virtually no experience or foreknowledge to operate it.
If you're in the business of building computers for people, it's something to consider. People will pay a big premium on something that seems to handle itself.
>>55014690
They do it to stop piracy
I don't understand how is this even a fucking question? You can do an infinite ammount of things with a computer, it's not even comparable to a fucking console
was looking to buy a projector, came down to this here

vs
a used mitsubishi ew270u with only 100 hours on the light. costs 100 bucks used.
http://www.aboutprojectors.com/Mitsubishi-EX270U-projector.html
wanna use it for movies and maybe gaming. Which is better?
Stop looking at projectors under $600. They're complete dog shit and not worth it.
>projector
>gaming
enjoy your latency
Mitsubishi EX270U DLP Projector absolutely curb stomps that white van chinese trash. Dont even think about getting the one at the top.

There's these strange things in my college. It's written on them "AMR repeater".
Could someone explain me what do they do ?
>>55014609
Sure, there's a really great page that explains everything quite well here: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=RMA+Repeater
How were you able to find a picture of them online, but not an explanation of what it does?
>>55014609
its a repeater
>member of some random message boards
>admins always begging for donations to pay for "server costs"
How much fucking bandwidth does a forum with maybe 20 posts a day actually use? Are these niggers just trying to scam money out of people who don't know any better?
They are.
If they want to offset costs, they should charge a subscription fee.
I think the same thing when people ask for donations on the radio. If you can't afford to be on the radio maybe you should get a real job. Don't you think I'd like to be on the radio running my mouth too. But I'm not rich. If I was I wouldn't spend my money so you could be on the radio. I'd spend my money so I could be on the radio.
>>55014514
This, 4chan should be subscription only
How much does 4chan even cost to maintain a month? $20?
Moot was just a jew
SAVIOUR OF HUMANITY Elon Musk prefers Windows because his time isn't worthless. Linux confirmed as a neckbeard NEET option!
Well, aren't you a sheep.
>>55014490
i guess that article or whatever was written around year 2000 ? if so, yeah, linux was shit back then.
but why is elon musks opinion here of any relevance ? he sure knows a lot about EE and other stuff, but IT ? not sure about that
>>55014490
My deodorant is musk, lol. Can't take a man with that name seriously.
I just had my bill for Comcast internet triple itself at the end of a year "special rate". I have only one poor local excuse for a competitor.
What would you guys do in this situation?
>>55014467
Hork wifi.
>>55014467
Call them and say you want to cancel because it became too expensive after your special promotion price ended. You may not get the exact same deal but they will lower your bill.
>>55014467
cumcast a shit
I was on a 300GB limit where they charged $10 every 50GB over per month. They told me there was no larger data plan, ive never even HEARD of an ISP data limit. So I have 80MBps that I cant use or else I will incur overage
UNTIL suddenly the overages stop, $300 gets added to my bill and I now have a 1000GB data limit. what the fuck??
What do you think the next big technological leap will be?
I'm inclined to think augmentation will take off in the 20's.
Automation of most or all of the service industry.
>>55014452
this. Their is a company that moved to china because of cheap labor. Now they moved back to Europe because of full automation.
>>55014452
Won't happen until we teach robots to recognise bullshit.
