Windows 7 forever :)!
Not going to pay for Windows 10 :)!
>>55591266
It's for the Enterprise version. Don't panic.
>$7 per user per month
No company is going to do this when they can buy Windows 7 Enterprise and call it done.
After Windows 7 is EOL, I can see a large number of companies moving to Mac.
What makes Linux so terrible at running games and Photoshop?
Is it irrevocably broken?
What makes Windows so terrible at being secure and stable?
Is it irrevocably broken?
>>55591226
The problem is that you're trying to run programs on an operating system the developers didn't intend for them to be ran on.
Software explicitly developed for Linux works just fine.
Since nobody uses Linux outside internet servers and as headless rendering machines, nobody is going to make software for it, thus nobody uses Linux.
Does Linux really count as a UNIX?
Nope, it's not certified to be one.
>>55591188
Not in the strict sense, but we can call Linux a Unix like OS aka *nix.
>>55591354
OS X is actually certified.
pic unrelated
About ready to quit my job. Jr sys admin for a userbase of about 3k. I wanna do project management or something, I dunno. Once i started diving into powershell and automation my soul died. I got into this field because I liked working with my hands.
I think I need to get out of IT bros.
>I got into this field because I liked working with my hands.
Somewhere down the line, you got grossly misinformed.

Plus idfk, im actually a decent people person with management experience which is hard to find in our industry so im hoping to find something
Can someone explain in layman terms, in a few sentences, how is it possible that webm has better quality than gif, while having a smaller file size?
Is it simply that the inventor of webm discovered a better mathematical method for encoding data in a smaller space?
(If yes, can this method be used to make a "new" and better .jpg?)
>>55591130
WebM uses video technologies to represent the same amount of video information in a smaller space.
Basically, imagine a video of a ball rolling. A GIF would have every single frame saved as a separate image, while WebM would only update the changed area every frame.
This is a massive simplification of the process, but you get the general idea.
>>55591130
webm is a video format, not image.
>>55591200
also this
>>55591200
Can you explain this to someone who is a retard?

This one (16.04) is pretty big – snaps, zfs support, everybody is waiting for Unity 8 though (convergence, convergence), which is still not due in 16.10.
>>55591008
heh
Unless you go to one of these, your "computer science" degree is code monkeying, and you should have majored in math instead
>implying a degree is worth anything in general
Just teach yourself.
>>55590897
>>55590897
Most programming these days is code monkey work, you're right for the most part. I taught myself, went to a cheap ass college so I can write down on my resume I have a fancy piece of paper so I can get jobs. Easily learned more about programming in a year of working on my own than multiple years of school.
How many of you have used 3.0 to move large sized files?

>he creates "backups" on a cheap external hd or "the cloud" instead of having a raid system
I am developing a cloud storage thing using ssh, unison (rsync, but better) and watchdog (uses the best filewatching protocol for whatever OS you're on) that does regular backups to an external HDD. You can use it with RAID.
>>55590414
>Backups
Why would I backup animu? Of course I run a massive RAID6.
>>55590414
A system that's always connected, or even worse always synced, is not a proper backup.
