Does /g/ have a personal website? If so, what do you use it for? As a blog? Public CV? Personal file host? Domain for a personal email?
None of your damn business
>>55131562
Yeah, I picked up an xyz domain for $0.88 from namecheap. It's kind of a mix between a blog and a CV.
Right now it just a personal tech blog that is pretty much empty.
Do you recommend using AVG for preventing or removing the worst of viruses/threats?
Have any say on this?
I plan to download the free trial again, but I wanted to know if it's really that good.
>>55131499
Having commonsense works just fine. Although you do have to pass the basic computer literacy test for it.
Otherwise use an antivirus like the tech retard you are
>>55131499
No, avoid AVG.
>>55131499
This isn't a problem on the Apple Macbook Pro with Retina Display.
Why are the 1080s all so fucking ugly?
I mean I'm not normally all that autistic about looks when it comes to shit sitting inside my case, but they really are all butt-ugly, with the exception MAYBE of the Strix.
What happened /g/?
>>55131375
nVidia made a ricer reference cooler, and the AIB partners followed suit.
I think the msi ones look pretty good if your going for a red aesthetic
>>55132463
maybe if the red was a bit more muted and it didn't have the leds. But ya, it's not as bad as some of them.

What are some good, cheap (=<$500) laptops I can buy for programming and general work? I don't currently own a laptop, but I do own a PC.
>inb4 thinkpad
pic related, what I was thinking of buying
>>55131321
chink win-tablet w/distro of choice
>>55131321
Cheapest refurbished thinkpad you can find is the good, cheap laptop you can buy for programming and general work.
I don't understand what other advices you were expecting, I guess other business laptops that come out of companies would also do. It's hard to compete with specs and price of refurbished laptops.
>>55131321
>for programming and general work
Thinkpad with 4:3 screen

I agree.
All package systems except for APT must be abolished and banned.
>>55131238
No, fuck you. How will I feel superior over other people if this succeeds?

One cool thing I love about OpenBSD is how the kernel can emulate linux binaries.
>>55130748
They dropped that with 5.9. Kinda sucks, I have to use SeaMonkey now.
>>55130732
Nothing works on BSD. While it may be a good OS for a selection of servers Linux remains higher in the chain than BSD in both embedded devices and personal computers.
I wish BSD distros had native compatibility for Linux applications. Even snaps would be a good option.
The only think keeping me from killing myself is my passion for Linux and learning more about it. If it weren't for /g/ I never would have been exposed to the Linux community, and in turn would be dead by now. Thank you /g/ and thank you Linux.
I'm glad technological knowledge has become a life-fulfilling pursuit for you. I hope you can find even more meaning in your life. You are a great person anon, just hang in there. It will get better.

So i've been working on a music player and manager for a few months now, currently in alpha stages. The goal was to make it fast/sleek as fuck with plenty of power-user/hotkey tricks (Like a cmus/Foobar inspired hybrid). So I got searching to be practically instant now with cached id3 tags. You can favorite tracks for easy access and even view lyrics (using a simple and clean web scrape).
It would be awesome if a few of you could do the first alpha test of it and would be awesome enough to give some feedback and report problems. If you want to try it, please have...
Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
1st of all nobody wants to install your shitty virus malware
2nd of all you will never make something better than musicbee, foobar2k, winamp, clementine etc... your effort is futile and a waste of time
delet ur "project" and go jack off, will be more productive
>>55130435
Wow fuck this guy
>>55130400
Hey OP I'll try it. Atomica? Any dl link?
Will it be GPLv3, free as in freedom? Also if it is, please do not call it open source as you are hurting GNU, the FSF and the whole free software community.
