Move the entire machine to a different room. That alone will make it locally quiet. If that room is very cold, the fans will have less work do to and make it absolutely quiet.

Get a case with better airflow. The air inside the case shouldn't heat up more than 10C above ambient, so your GPU cooler can be effective. And unless the latter is shit, it'll stay quiet then.

actually my first time with arch went super smooth, it was the third time that fucked me over big time.
So I finally got fed up with having to deal with all the bottlenecking factors that come with using a laptop for anything requiring slightly moderate processing power. Because of this, I am building a nice pc rig for gaming and 3d modeling and the likes. However, the room I have moved in to has no local ports for an ethernet connection, so LAN is off the table.

WiFi access points? Get a router which supports DD-WRT and you can configure it to your heart's content. Or you can try powerline adapters.
However, with the room I am in being upstairs, and with multiple people on the same signal at once, ping spikes are all too frequent and general connection tends to wither all too much for optimal gaming connections. Because of this, I am thinking of investing in a wireless access point to place in my room to broadcast the wifi signal from upstairs to increase its strength. Anybody have experience with access points, and if so, how well would this work to provide a decent signal from the upstairs room?

it used to be cool with the built-in store, but now it's completely fucking awesome.

You can play stuff like Dolphin-VR, use the leap motion and other motion controls, and it's pretty much indistinguishable from the rift.
HTC Vive has the roomscale advantage for sure, but given the overpriced tech demos it's not worth it to me. This is perfect to tide me over until it comes down in price.

I'm skeptical of this working very well. Streaming 2k video at 90 FPS over wifi is going to use a ton of bandwidth. There's gotta be a noticeable amount of latency, and it wouldn't have positional tracking.
Have you used it? How does it compare to the Rift or Vive?
