Please read the "I have nothing to hide!" link.
Some people genuinely don't like the idea of being spied on.
So I just got a new laptop, and I want to put the right things on it for once, as defined by /g/. So what is/are the best:

Anyone here use a CRT either as a computer monitor or a TV for vintage consoles?
Just curious what hardware everyone has.
I would try going to /vr/, they usually have a CRT general.
/v/ is full of underage kids
I use a Sony Trinitron for old games
I have a early 2000s Sony hooked up to my old consoles. What do you want to know?
>>55199125
i want to know where to get a crt monitor at this point :(
mine finally died
>>>/v/342301638
Well /g/?
OpenGL isn't free software. As far as I know most the implementations, except Mesa, are proprietary.
There have been innovations in free software, namely file systems and networking stacks. At least the last two Sony consoles have used BSD networking stacks.
>>55199038
Laughable.
Many people who write FOSS are paid. There are many companies that invest heavily in FOSS. The biggest contributors to Linux are large corporations.
There is a huge amount of high-quality FOSS. Gimp is not an example, but there are many cases where FOSS crushes anything proprietary. For example: web browsers, media players, kernels, and filesystems.

I'm struggling with nested loops in Python.
So say I want to:
Design a program that uses nested loops to collect data and calculate the average rainfall over a period of years. The program should first ask for the number of years. The outer-loop will iterate once for each year. The inner loop will iterate twelve times, once for each month. Each iteration of the inner loop will ask the user for the inches of rainfall for that month.
After all iterations, the program should display the number of months, the total inches of rainfall, and the average rainfall...

God damn what the fuck. Why is it so slow.
>>55198899
USB2.0 ports. Not even kidding, if you were transferring to a USB3 drive in a USB3 port it'd be a lot better because of their higher data transfer rates.

I want to make a small personal curriculum webpage.
Is flask still the king of small web projects?

What kind of PCI wireless adapter do i need to fit my mobo?
looks like u already got the gtx 970 installed, how are you not receiving ethernet?
>>55198934
I can't use ethernet because i can't reach from my computer to the router in the other room so i've been using a usb adapter but want to get something better so i can download and play games at a faster rate.
>>55198832
Post mobo model.
I don't have a CD drive or any USB sticks. How the hell would I install Windows 10's install onto my second SATA hard drive so I can make a Windows 10 installation on my third SATA drive?
Right now I'm running Windows 7 on my first SATA drive but it's an illegit copy so upgrades aren't working.
Or, y'know, whatever. I've been trying to figure this out for hours.
>optical media is dead
haha no optical and useless ports
kys cuck
>>55198829
do you have a laptop that would allow you to install it over the network?
sd card and either a card reader or an adapter to usb? sd card in your phone or other medium and booting from usb?
>>55198829
Go buy a USB 3.0 drive. Shit is cheap as fuck you damned degenerate.
>computer science lecturers and teachers insist that any computer or programming problem has been already had and solved by countless people before, so "just google it"
>almost every problem I have is unique
If almost every problem you have is unique, especially if you are still in school, you are either a genius or a moron.
Could you give us examples OP?
>>55198604
you don't have any unique problems kid, your problems can be reworded numerous different ways to find the result.
>>55198664
Errors like "Argument 1 of WebGLRenderingContext.compileShader does not implement interface WebGLShader".
Even if you just look up "does not implement interface WebGLShader", the only results you'll find two crash reports for the same site that report a significantly different error.
Also weird hardware stuff like a specific Gmod server having caused a graphics card malfunction (which lasted even into the next computer reboot) the first time I tried it, and POST failure the next...

Vertical mouse or trackball mouse? What does /g/ prefer?
I can't imagine any reason that someone would use a trackball.
>>55198583
Combine them for the ultimate pointing device.
>>55198598
They're not uncommon among people who have computer interests beyond video gaymes.
Can someone give me an idea of relative performance of RX 480 vs 780 Ti? I have the option to buy another 780 Ti SLI for $200 or I can just buy a RX480 and then crossfire that or even just sell it for the 490 later on.
Thanks /g/ents!
As of now the RX 480 performance is between the 390X and the 980, since they are around 10% to 20% better then a 780ti, one can conclude the RX 480 performs around 15% better than a 780ti
>>55198540
780ti ~= 970
480 = 970-980 level, matching close to 1070 with OC in DX12.
>>55198828
>>55198916
Thanks for the input guys, even if its just napkin math I do appreciate it.
Perhaps I'll just the RX 480 instead of another 780 Ti. Not to mention the power consumption and heat differences alone...
Good pc build for gaming at 1080p 60fps and editing youtube videos? First build so need some help. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/YxkCJV
>gtx 970
>msi
>>55198469
1. Don't get a z170 motherboard if you're not getting a "K" CPU
2. Don't get an aftermarket cooler if you're not getting a "K" CPU
3. Don't get a 970 now, wait 1 week and get an RX 480, it is cheaper and performs like a 980
4. Don't buy Windows, pirate it
5. Get an SSD
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/J7gD3F
The GTX 960 is a placeholder, that's what the RX 480 is gonna cost
>>55198661
This, and you should always spend the ~$30 extra and get anything other than msi
What does /g/ use for a security camera? I was thinking of using a webcam and an old laptop with motion installed.
Weedman is thinking of placing some """"refugees"""" in my area and I am preparing accordingly

>>55198633
the reolink software is fine if you don't have very high standards and they even have their own NVR so you wouldn't need an old computer and the POE switch since it has one built one.
their 8 channel NVR with a 2TB HDD is $300 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0179JRV24/
the cameras are mechanically sound except you'll have to terminate your own ethernet cables if you want to use their waterproof attachment. If you don't need the quality from a 4mp camera you can just get whatever cheap...
