How can i write a program to prove the earth is flat? and we're in a simulation?
>>55214185
>Write a program to prove the Earth is flat
Go outside, look off into the horizon and tell me, do you see Tokyo? What's that? You don't see Tokyo? But you can see the sun which is reportedly millions of miles away. There you go, the Earth is flat. Now write a real program.
Hi /g/, I've had some experience with MySQL and PL/SQL but it looks like I'm being forced to learn T-SQL soon.
Are there any big differences that I should know about or some small syntax differences?
I've seen some information about the differences with the LIMIT argument on a SELECT and some benefits regarding values smaller that one second, etc.
Thanks in advance.
PL/SQL to TSQL
Arrays do not exist, use @Temporary tables
No error handling in functions
remember to code OUTPUT on procedure arguments in the procedure definition AND the execute statement
triggers; :old and :new replaced with inserted and deleted tables
triggers; cannot do for each row, cannot do column
create or replace object does not exist; recommend if object_id(object,type) is null exec 'create object as ...' then alter object. - major pain - my biggest gripe
no packages
arguments for objects must specify size i.e. function crap(invar varchar2) is now function crap(invar varchar(254))
variable assignment goes from var := value to either SET @var = value or SELECT @var = value
that's all i can remember
just remembered
select column
into var
from whatever
is now
select @var = value
from whatever
if more than one row oracle will throw too many rows error. sql simply returns the last row
usually that sucks but you can use it like oracle LISTAGG
select @var = isnull(@var+','+column,column)
from whatever
also nvl is isnull

Convince me to buy or not buy this right now.
I was going to wait for the AMD rx480, but I decided that I want more power. Is there a reason to not get this G P U ? anyone else bought it and are you happy so far?
>but I decided that I want more power.
why? what's your setup and future setup. If you're not running 4k then this card is overkill.

I'm on the fence too, but probably gonna wait for more reviews of both to see if the 1070 is worth the extra price jump.

Is there any IDE for Vala that has proper IntelliSense?
I am currently using a mix between Anjuta and Geany. Anjuta for the UI (as it kind of act likes a terrible Visual Studio by using Glade), Geany for coding. Me as a longtime Visual Studio user is really astonished how terrible most of the non Java/C# IDEs actually are. It really is frustating. So is there any proper Vala IDE that runs on (Arch) Linux? Please do not suggest Valama it is outdated as fuck as well. Geany does not have IntelliSense and Anjuta bugs around so much that I honestly could simply use Glade instead of it.
>>55213671
>IntelliSense
That's Microsoftian for "code completion"
>>55213678
Which should make it obvious that I am used to Visual Studio. Because of my uni (and me switching to Linux) I was forced to switch to MonoDevelop/Eclipse/NetBeans. All of them have "code completion" specifically Eclipse and NetBeans literally writes 20% of the code itself. Who the fuck wants to write manually everything about loops switchs and what the fuck not.
So do you know any IDE or did you just post for the sake of posting?
As the only IDE that appearently is a bit advanced (in contrast to all the other shitty ones) is not compiling (probably because it has not been updated since a year), I will go back to C# with MonoDevelop and Gtk#. I can't stand this shit I'd love to use Vala to write C# code and have it compiled into native C but I won't fuck my brain just because I want native code.

Git gud fag, IDEs are for pussies
>not using vim or emacs as an IDE
It never ceases to amaze me how fanboys of these editors apparently don't know anything about them, such as what plugins and configurations to use to get simple stuff such as code navigation (jump to declaration, show use), code completion, linting etc...
How can you call yourself a vim/emacs user if you've never used configured ctags + cscope and use gcc as a indexer + linter?

We'll compare the numbers of buyers of 1080's to 480's in the coming months. I highly doubt 1080 sales top 10% of 480 sales.

bte just because it sells more the 980Ti's does not mean it sold 'gazillions' of cards. It's still a 'premium' card. Overpriced at that. It's like saying Rolex watches or Ferrari's are selling like hotcakes.

Hey /g/, what is the recommended first programming language? I'm thinking about learning python. Thoughts?
>>55212076
I agree. It lets you explore concepts without getting bogged down in syntax. Good book choice too. I'd also recommend checking out hackerrank.com's python series
>>55212076
Obviously Python. In fact, that's probably the first and last language worth learning. I regularly program shell scripts, C, C++, Java, JS, and smali. There's only one language worth learning and convenient for day to day tasks (and can scale up to large programs too). Python.
>>55212076
Furthermore, fuck any other language. I made an MMORPG in Java and I do kernel programming in C. Python is a good language, the developers are autists though (read: don't go to Freenode and ask for help).
