technology thread (OH NO!)
I have bought some AA rechargeable Sony Batteries. I am using it for my 3 xbox360 controllers. I have some questions:
- is it true that they loss charge during time even without using them?
- is it true that you have to put them in the fridge if you want them to keep their charge?
- recommended battery chargers (I have one fast charger from Camelion)
- are AA/AAA a better battery than LiPo batteries found in cellphones/tablets/controllers?
I would like your opinions, /g/entlemen

>is it true that they loss charge during time even without using them?
Conventional NiMHs do lose charge sitting on the shelf. and fairly quickly (in three months they'll be flat) You can get "low self-discharge" NiMHs that do not do this. They're slightly more expensive and have slightly lower capacity. You know you have them if the packaging says "ready to use" or "pre-charged".
>is it true that you have to put them in the fridge if you want them to keep their charge?
A battery in the fridge will self-discharge slower, all else equal, but the difference is not large, and freezing them can damage them (since there's a water-based electrolyte in them). Keeping them cool will not help their lifespan in terms of how many charge/discharge cycles they can withstand before wearing out. Overall, its too much trouble for little gain, don't bother refrigerating batteries.
>recommended battery chargers (I have one fast charger from Camelion)
Maha/Powerex makes some nice ones. Many of which have the nice feature that they charge batteries individually instead of in pairs. The general rule for all chargers is that the faster the charge, the harder it is on the battery, and the fewer charge/discharge cycles you'll get before it dies. Avoid any charger that takes less than an hour to fill a NiMH AA from empty.
>are AA/AAA a better battery than LiPo batteries found in cellphones/tablets/controllers?
They have worse energy density (capacity per unit weight and capacity per unit volume), but I much prefer them to any lithium battery because they're a standard form factor that can be had anywhere and will never be out of production. Also, unlike rechargeable lithium batteries, NiMHs do not wear out with time, only with use. Lithium batteries are shot in five years even if they've never been used. Gadget-makers, of course, view this as a feature, since you have to buy a new gadget. I disagree.

Yes.
>is it true that you have to put them in the fridge if you want them to keep their charge?
No.
>recommended battery chargers (I have one fast charger from Camelion)
Whichever ones have good reviews.
>are AA/AAA a better battery than LiPo batteries found in cellphones/tablets/controllers?
No.
It dosent matter if it's a feature phone or a smartphone, all I want is a completly 100% open source (preferably FOSS) phone.
If it's open hardware two then it's literally god send but so long as it open source I'll literally cry in happiness.
Please anons, for the love of all that is gnu, please tell me this exists.
Just fabricate your own phone, and design your own operating system (or just fork Linux)
And then probably mass market it for mad dosh.

Resources, books, sites, anything. Took apart a few computers but haven't gone beyond that. Keep in mind, I just graduated HS
Could you guys help me out? Thanks. My family/friends aren't helpful and it's a bit rough sometimes with money.

How hard is to design cool gadgets and get some company to make them?
>>55232222
check'd
>>55232222
It's really easy. Just ask Steve Wozniak.
You have to invent it then create a prototype and patent it. If you don't do these things China will make knockoff ones for half the price.

Is this computer any good?

It's okay and will probably handle high 1080p settinfs in vydia at ~60fps but you could build it cheaper yourself if you bought the parts separately.

Hi guys!
Do you think Human Ethernet Ports are going to become available in this decade? I think it could solve a lot of issues for people on the go.

Looks like Google has abandoned yet another startup.

Yeah, I guessed that too, it's way too early for something like Fiber. They will try again, in a few years.
Installing fiber was always going to be a huge problem in big, well-established cities. Kansas City? Motherfucking Chattanooga, Tennessee? No problem laying down new lines. Try doing the same shit in New York or Chicago. I doubt anyone knows where all the network lines even are in those towns.
>>55232016
I'm sure city councils hold the key to the schematics of all those things.
Hey guys, I was wondering how many euros I'd need to spend to build a mac gaming pc, i want it to be really powerful and run games on Ultra settings for next 2 years.
What's a euro?
>>55231826
It's a currency of money in Europe.
BTW the reason why i want a mac pc is because i work with Adobe programs, but i want to be able to game too, the main game i'm looking forwards to is Roblox. So how many graphics do i need to run Roblox?
