>have rooted this piece of shit
>can't turn off the screen without the device going to sleep
I just want the fucking screen to be off while the device is functioning normally (GPS working, foreground app running, etc etc)
>>55606990
Use an operating system that gives the user control over the hardware, and not the other way around.
>>55606990
Use Black Screen Of Life.
Been using it with Pokemon GO successfully without Gyroscope on my device. Pretty neat desu

Is 2GB RAM enough for Android 6.0? I see other phones with 3GB or 4GB.
I recall 1GB RAM for KitKat wasn't enough...
>>55606942
>Is 2GB RAM enough for Android 6.0?
Yes, but you need a 64 bit CPU :^)
>>55606942
>2GB RAM enough for Android 6.0
no
Using it with 1gb. Works fine if you don't play gaymes.
So I installed Ubuntu Mate for shits and giggles. It's been a while since I've ran an Ubuntu derivative.

Ughh, what is this? Windows?

But really, you're probably gonna like Debian better

I'm fairly certain the same things here would apply to an installation done via the Ubuntu minimal route.
Not sure if it automatically installs lightdm for you, but I know the recommended and suggested packages are overkill.
>come home one day

And I let it sit there like that for a day before switching it off.

How do you feel about the government putting limits on encryption? It seems like every time they get shot down, they keep trying again a few months or a year later. I don't think they'll give up until they get what they want.
>The UK government has explicitly confirmed that a surveillance bill now making its way through the second chamber could be used to require a company to remove encryption. And even, in some circumstances, to force a comms service provider not to use end-to-end encryption to secure a future service they are developing....

Here's another article:
>During a committee stage debate in the UK's House of Lords yesterday, the government revealed that the Investigatory Powers Bill will provide any Secretary of State with the ability to force communication service providers (CSPs) to remove or disable end-to-end encryption.
>Earl Howe, a minister of state for defence and deputy leader in the House of Lords, gave the first explicit admission that the new legislation would provide the British government with the ability to force CSPs...

This tbqh. The attack in Nice showed that more needs to be done to stop terrorism. If a few pedos get caught along the way, all the better. Literally the only people who have a problem with this are those who use encrypted communication to commit illegal activities.
What's stopping me from making my own internet browser?

what phone can I get for ~$200 USD that is decent and usable in Canadaland?
Thanks
you should have bought a rubber case
>>55606528
Thanks, if I can build a time machine, I'll be sure to protect my phone and hope that it doesn't get damaged in the specific fall I took.
Until then, do you know of any good ~$200USD phones?
Oneplus X, Honor 5X, Maybe Nexus 6 16gb.

Lay it on me: how fucked am I if I buy a Rift?
I just want VR for vidya, and the Vive is fucking expensive compared to the Rift.
If money is that much of a concern just get OSVR. It's basically a less comfortable Rift.
>>55606417
I just got my rift a few days ago.
Been playing project cars, elite dangerous, and farlands.
To be honest the only experience that made me go "wow" was elite dangerous. The resolution isn't high enough for complete immersion.
Just wait for the next generation, as it stands the rift is not worth the asking price.
>>55606417
Rift is facebook cuck garbage
literally after being bought by facebook it went from a $300 open platform to $600 with DRM.
Doesn't even have full room VR
What Linux should I use
Been using Windows for a long time and I have just been upgraded to 10 and I hate it
>>55606406
You mean Linux distro. Distros may have different Linuxes.
Start with Xubuntu
>>55606565
Thanks
I recommend to get couple of blank cd's and see what really fits your needs. Or if you have a spare machine/hdd then you can store all your disc image's inside it, then install those on usb.
Quite often the main diffrence is not the desktop enviroment, it's the way all underlying tools and such are managed.
>zorin is quite "windowsy"
What's the point of x64 when everything x86 runs on everything? Otherwise you'd have to distribute two different binaries..
Will x86 ever disappear?
>>55606383
>Will x86 ever disappear?
yes, x86 has problems from an engineering perspective and is becoming more restrictive thanks to the giants that have made it relevant in the market
As time goes by new freer architectures based on existing tech might become more relevant (see Russia China) due to privacy needs
Arm based chips also have a large potential
>>55606383
Well, windows server and some linux distros already stopped making x86 build
Games which require more than 4GB RAM are next
>Windows still has separate 32bit and 64 bit versions
>Still no universal binaries
OS X solved this shit 10 years ago
