Other than buying or setting up my own NAS device, what's the cheapest solution for being able to stream content from a portable HDD to other devices in my apartment through Plex? I know some routers can do this, but that they're unreliable.
>>55608705
Let me get this straight.
You want to stream to plex and not from plex?
>>55608832
Right now, I just plug my HDD into my shitty WD tv box, but I'm getting a Chinese Android one, and really love how Plex uses metadata to make the interface more user friendly (as opposed to a basic file system in my HDD)
So I figured I could just install Plex on it, and have it pick up my HDD as a network device.
What ext on your browser are you using?
I'm looking for something to protect me a little more.

Hey /g/,
so my boss is pushing for me to choose a readymade NAS solution for our business (used mainly for storage and backup). The two pre-approved options I have are:
>QNAP TS-453U-RP with 4x4TB HGST drives in RAID 5
>bit cheaper option, offered with reduced price on XOPERO Server Agent license
>Synology RS815RP+ with 4x4TB WD enterprise drives in RAID 5
>more expensive but also offered with reduced price on Veeam Backup & Replication license

I've had a lot of bad experiences with QNAP NAS's, they'd be fine for a home user imo, but I've used then in an enterprise setup when the budget was too shit to get anything else - We've always ended up regretting it, We've moved away from NAS solutions.
Of course ideally I'd want something dedicated to enterprise environment but at the moment the budget doesn't really allow me to go much higher. Anyway, are QNAP and Synology the only sorta worthwhile options in this price range? Maybe I should look into different model or company, I'm at a bit of a loss here.

In my experience EMC NAS's are alright.
Does this seem like a reasonable price /g/?

Hello /g/
Total noob here, I need your help.
I downloaded a 90 min .mp4 video (iykwim), but I'd like to change the audio. I read that I should convert it to mkv, then add the audio with something like Mvktoolnix.
What do you think? I don't want to lose the original video quality.
Thanks!

You can get ffmpeg from here https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
Get the 64bit static build.
I hope you can use the command line.
>>55608630
Oh and, this is the last reply I'll make in this thread.
If you need to prepare your audio then use ffmpeg or whatever tools are available out there.
If you have it ready, then go with mkvtoolnix. You can try adjusting the delay of your input audio to match the video. This process is called "muxing" and it doesn't affect the quality of the streams at all.
And if you're using a version of mkvtoolnix superior to 4.8, you should add this in Output > Miscellaneous > Additional options: --engage no_cue_duration --engage no_cue_relative_position. It's for better time seeking with older devices.
tfw you can't buy the case you really want

I pulled this keyboard out of a pile we were going to throw away.
As you can see, it is in essentially mint condition.
I don't believe that it is a mechanical keyboard (even though the switch kind of looks like one), because you almost have to bottom-out the key to engage the switch.
At any rate, there's a bunch of keys that I can't use at the moment, and I want to swap the positions of Caps Lock and Control.
Any ideas on how to do that?
I'm using Windows.

The man page of "xmodmap" has an example just for that.

Hey /g I'm trying to design a bike generator so I can charge my phone for Pokemon go, originally I was just going to use a diode to connect the battery and generator but then I started thinking about overcharge and knowing how much power I have. I was wondering if I could use a relay as a diode and I searched around but a lot of places say it's bad because of battery arcing however since the relay is never between the battery terminals should I be ok using it in place of a diode? My thinking is I'll have several different zener diodes and leds to make a standard...

wouldnt it be better to get one of those RC car batteries, ducktap it to the pike buy parts to make a converter/adater for a usb hub, and put an enclosure around all that?
>>55608350
I'm sorta doing that, I'm using one of those batteries for those plastic cars kids ride in and I'm using a lighter port power inverter that has a standard wall socket and usb port
>>55608242
> charge my phone
> I started thinking about overcharge
If you were charging a battery by itself you'd have to worry about overcharging, but the phone already has that circuitry built into it. Give it 5v and it will charge the battery and stop when it's full. What you need is a 5v regulator to keep the voltage from going too high.
Let's do it ...
