DSL vs Cable Internet? Which one is better? Considering there's no fibre internet available, of course.
From my knowledge and experience, I prefer DSL to Cable. VDSL2 to be exact.
Cable:
>bandwidth shared by your neighbors, so speeds fluctuate
>if you're living where nodes are oversaturated, your ISP will bitch and threaten you for using too much bandwidth. I remember my cable company threatened to switch to 250Mbps from 50Mbps because of data usage
>slower ping....

Contacted a cable company employee about the network situation in my neighborhood, and received this answer:
>Your area is a bit more heavily used and has a project running right now to improve it. I don't see any heavy congestion right now, but speeds might dip slightly for an hour or two at night until we finish our improvements in the area.
Right now they have a deal where 150/10 internet is $49.90 for a year, but if this is the case, maybe i'll pass.
I prefer cable because it has higher speeds

Just fuck off, really. Google is a fucking amazing resource, and if you're too stupid to sort the wheat from the chaff, you definitely do not have the analytical or critical thinking skills to code.

Go to /vg/ for game development, /g/ isn't meant for video games, you'll get more help there.

At 20 gigs you may as well download the latest driverpacks and not have to do so for a while.
So my internet has been slow as fuck and crashes on every site. Just yesterday, I was dumb enough to download a file from /b/ and I'm pretty sure it was a virus. Posting via Phone because the net won't connect to anything.
Lemme guess. You ran that hidden password.ink file from humiliated.zip?
Ok
>>55613298
You must be over 18 to post here.
How does /g/ organize its files? It drives me into panic.
I'm not comfortable saving files on my local drive, nor am I comfortable with cloud services. For now I keep everything on an always-inserted flash drive, who I then back up on an external drive. But still files end up EVERYWHERE: on your phone, tablet, in the cloud, flash drives, etc - and sorting that shit out is hell.
And what should you save? Old meme pics from 4chan anno 2006? Old back-ups?
>>55613259
I have a folder of various files, about ~200gb that I keep on 3 PCs. I also have a .7z archive of this folder on a laptop harddrive that I put in a makeshift foam-ductape case to keep in a closet.
When I want to "add" files to this archive, I make it a point to eventually get the files on each archive. Keeping the mirrors updated for me isn't a huge deal because I am not frequently generating data that is completely imperative that I have backed-up. Things like that, IE: old family photos/projects/etc,...

>>55613354
re. organizing: here is an example of how the shit I keep backed-up is organized. there are of course sub-folders. the "backup mybook" folder is a complete clusterfuck, but that is what ctrl+f is for.

What's in lost and found?
I only know networking (ccna level) and want to do a Computer Engineering degree at my local University.

Can someone please explain this to me.
I am using the VPN provided by Getflix, and it's supposed to encrypt and hide my ISP. I've set it so that my IP address is for the region of Los Angeles in the US.
But when I type in "ip address" on Google, it gives me my public IP address and it traces it back to my actual location. Why is this?
Did I not set the VPN up correctly? The program and the website says that I have. The Getflix website says that I'm from the US, yet the IP address website says otherwise.
>>55613161
Some VPNs have the option to avoid tunneling to servers located within your country. Disable that option and tunnel your entire traffic
>>55614359
Could you possibly guide me through the process of doing that with Getflix?
I can't seem to find the option related to tunneling.
>>55613161
Oh shit! you telling me i might get backtraced by the cyberpolice even though i use a vpn?
