How come computer user interfaces haven't improved at all since 1984?
>>55344063
Have you tried buying a newer computer? That one is a bit outdated. Congrats on getting it online, tho.
Theres literally nothing we can do to improve them with our current hardware
How come wheels haven't been improved since 2000 B.C?
Old thread is near bump limit.
What can I do to improve my current set-up?
>>55343786
Sell everything. Get 2 1080p monitors that are the same size. Get a new case that doesn't have LED's or a window. Get a new desk that doesn't have the top shelfs. Buy a non clip on lamp. Dust semi regularly.
>>55343837
The desk doesn't have top shelfs.
The case also doesn't have LEDs nor a window.
And I can't afford anything else you said (entire station was >$100). Also, that would just be another shitty cookie cutter /g/ station. So not an improvement.

Other business laptops are also welcome in /tpg/ (e.g. Dell Latitude/Precision, HP EliteBook/ZBook).
----
If you're looking for purchase advice, READ THE BUYERS GUIDE FIRST. Then post, stating budget and requirements (e.g. size and performance).
Don't buy anything OTHER THAN T, X AND W/P SERIES if you want the Real ThinkPad Experienceâ„¢
Recommended models:
T420 - 14", normal size
X220 - 12.5", ultraportable
----
Why ThinkPad? (also applies to other business laptops)
>Used machines are plentiful and cheap.
>Excellent keyboards - tactile feel and quiet.
>Great durability: chassis uses a magnesium rollcage for structural integrity, with high quality plastic body panels.
>Utilitarian design: e.g. indicator LEDs, 7 row keyboard layout on older models.
>Docking stations that easily turns your laptop into a desktop.
>Easy to repair, upgrade and maintain thanks to readily available service manuals for every model. Spare parts are easy and cheap to obtain.
>The best trackpoint (that red thing in the middle of the keyboard). Great for those who type a lot or hate swiping their fingers all over a touchpad.
>Excellent GNU/Linux & *BSD support.

How difficult is building a custom laptop? I like the chassis of a Macbook but want to customize the insides and run Linux
you can't
It's not impossible but highly impractical. I'm with you on the disappointment of manufacturers. I've been thinking about getting a business grade dell and replacing the screen with a 16:10.
Very difficult.
Need help building a gaming PC. I have a budget of around $1200 and this is what I've come up with so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/32Dnnn
