How /g/ store video and music? Do you even do it?
Don't know what codecs/format use to do it.
FLAC for audio, that's obvious, but what about movies?
Is 720p in matroska enough? For me it's right - small size up to 5GB, good video quality with nice bitrate and often it contains DTS audio.
>implingy I can hear the difference between DTS and 192kbps mp3
What about you?
>>42501831
Bluray remuxes from private trackers are the only correct answer.
>>42501831
192kbit/s mp3 probably isn't surround when it comes to movies, while DTS probably is.
I download 1080p encodes done by good groups from private trackers. Usually at least 10GB per movie, more often than not 15GB per.
FLAC music from what.cd obviously.
Only FLAC because of Rotational Velocodensity. I don't want my music to sound like shit in 5 years :^)
Let's have an FF tips/trick/tweaks general, more geared towards Privacy, aside from other things, like ads and shit. What add-ons do you use, what about:config commands have you added, any particular URLs that you are actively blocking, etc., etc?
I'll get the ball rolling.
Add the following to your AdBlock filter preferences to never see "Annotations" in YouTube videos ever again. Life significantly improved.
||youtube.com/annotations_
If you absolutely have to use GMail, then try the Gmelius add-on, if you haven't already. Make your Gmail look clean, and remove all the retarded text adds. Feels good man.
Pic related.
there's a setting in your youtube account to disable the, by default.
see them if you want, don't lock yourself out.

hi there, /g/
Anyone else having appchan-x captcha problems?
>>42436766
Only problems I have is I'll occasionally get those stupid address captchas that always fail. I just refresh the captchas a few times and I'll get a normal one. I'm glad they fail, I don't want to support that shit.
Old thread died.
Piratebox /G/eneral
Build a piratebox:
http://piratebox.cc/openwrt:diy
A PirateBox is a portable electronic device, often consisting of a Wi-Fi router and a device for storing information, creating a wireless network that allows users who are connected to share files anonymously and locally. By definition, this device is disconnected from the Internet.
Old thread: >>42353086
The channel has been a bit inactive recently. Join #/g/piratebox on Rizon to liven up the discussion.
Today, I was out from morning till evening, and used the opportunity to carry my piratebox with me. The result was not overwhelming, just got a few messages, most nonsensical, in the shoutbox. I should probably use a less suspicious SSID, like that of an actual local network, or "free wifi" next time.
Can we have a "Games made in Assembly" thread?
Some months ago I saw a thread about it and I found some gold.
Is there any good game, or a simple game, made in NASM?
>>42389644
>RollerCoaster Tycoon
>Scottish game developer Chris Sawyer originally wanted to create a sequel to his highly successful Transport Tycoon, but after becoming obsessed with roller coasters, he changed the project into RollerCoaster Tycoon. Sawyer wrote RollerCoaster Tycoon in x86 assembly language, which was rare for a game published in the late 1990s. Some functions were written in C for interaction with the Windows operating system.[1]

Which CPUs and GPUs being as powerful as they are today, is there truly any need for assembly in games these days?
Even mobile devices are getting pretty powerful these days

Can you touch type /g/?
I just started learning how, and it is definitely a tough transition.

>>42382766
>you should kill you are self.
lol kill yourself
I can. Years ago I forced myself to use the homerow and type without looking. I started at probably around 10 WPM. A few years later, I'm now able to type around 130 WPM. Don't give up anon!

why has no one written a program that writes improved versions of itself?

how do I creat a gtk app from c++ app?
Are free versions of video game engines worth it? How about a engine with source provided? What if I can't even code so that makes the source useless for me?

How close are we to true Virtual Intelligence or Artificial intelligence?
For those who don't know, VI's are programs used to make the interface of computers and the like easier, allowing voice commands with scripted responses and actions. The problems encountered with this is that it cannot learn like human intelligence can. They can 'learn' by getting more scripting done to improve their collection of answers, but they cannot take initiative or solve problems, and above that they have to be 'taught' by a user.

Look to Google. They're the ones building huge neural networks and cannabilizing robotics companies. I'm sure it's mentioned often during blue sky meetings.
You said "What exactly is an A.I. according to you?". Is this correct?
True A.I.? If you assume that Google/NASA has the funds and time, we could probably see it in out lifetime. I think that people would get buttmad though. Like people who'd seen too much I, Robot and the like. They'll try to stop the research or force some law against it. Still,
I'd piss myself if I'd have a computer program ask me: 'Who am I? Why am I here? Do I have a soul?'
I'd freak the fuck out. If they do accomplish it though, we have to be careful as fuck with it. Hackers would become the most dangerous criminals in the...

OKay. So the introduction to this page shows a tutorial in how to install Gentoo on your machine. However it seems like the majority of the Linux users here uses Arch Linux.
Is Gentoo just so comlicated that it needs its own tutorial or is Arch just the preferred Linux distro.
Fedora is simply better than both of them.
Just use Debian (or its derivatives) like normal people and you'll have time to actually do some real work, not just re-tinker with the OS for the millionth time because it broke again.
OSX is free software.
There is no reason to use Linux.

Hey guys, so today I was deleting everything on my paypal related to my bank that account got deleted. I called to the bank and they told me that they deleted my bank account due to inactivity for more than 6 months with a $0.00 balance. All my debit cards were seized and the bank account was trashed.
>This bank account was solely for buying online.
I had exactly 6.90 dollars left of PayPal balance. I wanted to take care of this balance to leave it at $0.
I went to eBay and ordered some shit worth exactly $6.90. Little did I...

Buy more things with your infinite money supply, sell them at a higher price.
If anything bad happens, you'll be able to cover the costs.
>>42293250
This.
Also, after a while they find out and will mail you stating you need to add fund in order to keep using paypal. I had this with a 100 euro purchase. Woops.
>>42293250

But can I get in trouble [legally?], I have not signed for another bank account, there are no bank accounts under my name. Is this PayPal's fault, the bank's fault? Where does this money come from?
So the truecrypt developers intended to stay anonymous and I'm assuming that means using TOR for everything related to the project
Somehow it is believed that the NSA or some organisation forced them to shut down, meaning their ID's had to have been compromised for the NSA/organisation to have any leverage against them
Does this logically mean that the NSA/org has cracked TOR or that the devs messed up somewhere?
