Best Laptop for a Producer/Musician?
>>45272009
None. Get something that will play your music that you produce. Instead invest in quality tools such as midi keyboards, receivers and software.

I need some software. I already have a midi keyboard.

This Mac doesn't do shit. I need a good PC laptop that can handle FL Studio, Audacity, etc.
Old one was dying.
If I have these in dual channel: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231689
Would I be able to put these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231476&utm_medium=Email&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL112114&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL112114-_-EMC-112114-Index-_-DesktopMemory-_-20231476-S1A6A in the second and fourth slots for another dual channel of 16GB without any problems? I'm not sure about the whole mixing RAM rules.

I want to install windows on a vps that does not offer it. Normally to install unsupported OS, I boot a live environment, install qemu, and run iso, but windows is silly and throws everything and the kitchen sink on the iso making it too large for my budget vps ram.
Can dd do stdin/stdout? I think I could create my image in qemu, boot live environment, then do something like:dd if=win_qemu.img of=stdout |ssh host "dd if=stdin of=/dev/sda1"
I just can't find a real use for it, i mean a necessary one. It's only for communication ...
>>45267456
to better track you, my dear
>>45267456
Necessary use? No.
Something that makes your life easier as long as you don't spend every waking moment on it? There is a lot of that.

It's pretty much my computer away from home OP especially when I can use it to remotely control my desktop with almost no lag or speed problems
/g/uys, I need a new laptop and I've been thinking about a thinkpad yoga, because of muh digitizer.
Try to convince me to buy something else
Also, thinkpad general

Get an x220, don't get a yoga.
get a x220 and give me all the money that you saved from not buying a yoga to me.

Comparable specs? Especially processing power, because I'm an engineer and I need my processing power
Does anyone else miss the cellphone market before the iphone era? So much variety, so many phones for so many different lifestyles. Some were ugly, some were the latest tech and some were just plain weird. Greatest nostalgic feeling would have to be remembering nokia's n series coming out. I wish I got my hands on a n93i, that thing had optical zoom and was a very decent camcorder.for onling having a 3.2 megapixel camera
>>45263968
Or how about all the basic style phones that were out? One reason I'm happy I live in Moscow is because a lot of people have 2 phones here, an android/iphone and a fancy looking outdated gadget. I'm actually using this thing right now since I smashed my s4 to pieces.

A lot of people on /g/ don't care about privacy until they go to that site. We are the exceptions.
Going to be picking up a monitor soon, a bit unsure what I should be looking for. Obviously 1920x1080 and I would like a 120hz refresh rate, but I don't know what else I should be looking for. Price range is 200-300.
>>45273990
whats in the pic is ips, wont be 120hz. If you want >60hz youll need a tn panel which will mean shitty colors
>>45273990
>200-300
Gee, that's helpful. Maybe specify a currency.
>obviously 1920x1080
Why? They make 2440x1444/1600
Now /g/, we're pretty much all doing Maths here. What are you using?
Picture related, it's the Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil (0.5mm lead).
Pens, pencils, calculators etc. are welcome.
No desktops, tablets, or phones please - even if they're your calculators.
Calculator software (Matlab, Wolframalpha etc.) are welcome.
Loving this mechanical pencil. It's metal too, so it's not plastic.
>>45266581
>Calculator software (Matlab, Wolframalpha
>Wolframalpha
Really?
>>45266624
Whatever people are using. Personally I'm using it to verify some of my answers. I should probably be using Matlab instead though, seeing as I took the time to *cough* acquire it.

What GNU/Linux distros are out there that don't use systemd?
I know in Gentoo it's optional, but are there any other ones?

Slackware
and that's the list.

It's much cheaper now.
Alternatively just buy a Nokia N8 and use it as an audio player. It has a better Wolfson chip than any iPod ever made.
For an Audiophile tablet, get the Nokia N1. It contains a Wolfson DAC. The new head of Nokia technology in the US is the former head of Dolby.

It's not my fault your tablet sucks at audio.

I don't have any idea why, but xiaomi pistons give me the biggest boner ever. Anyone else have this problem? I just ordered a pair on amazon, what should I expect?

Decent sound and build quality for price and for a chink company. There are other that are arguably better, but these are pretty damn good, and if you really like the aesthetics of them, then there's no debate there...
>>45230799
Any recommendations on what would be better in the same price range?
They sounded good already out of the box, and now that it's been a few months and well past the burn-in time, I'm very impressed with how they ended up. Especially considering the price point. Plus they feel solid in the ears and look really premium. I've gotten a ton of compliments and questions about them.
Thinking about doing the filter removal mod but I'm afraid I'll fuck up the metal grates. Has anyone done this successfully, and is it worth it?
Is it just me or is the demand for CPU power by games currently in relative stagnation? I'm due to for a new build soon but my 2500K still handles things fine, and it's not even overclocked yet. Feels like the thing could go for another three and a half years.
>>45236070
There are a few games (Arma 3 and Kerbal Space Program come to mind) that are CPU intensive, so I'd suggest picking up a 4690k on sale during cybermonday. Just so you can have that headroom.
No reason to get an i7 though.
K8 is about the maximum one would need for gaming and other casual uses, but want it or not the bloat and marketing doesn't rest so you gotta buy the latest shit or be made fun of.
I predict that by 2024 there will be no programmer capable of running space invaders on pentium 4.
>>45236070
Because graphically intense stuff that is optimized well has not much need of a CPU?
Why do you think you REQUIRE the game to use 100% gpu and 100% cpu power?
Why does the fact you can keep a CPU for years without any real downside seem like a bad thing to you?

Well, someone has to get us away from 3.5mm standard....
>>45242847
But there is nothing wrong with the 3.5mm standard.
