So, in 2014 space flight is no more interesting..
/g/ is very interesting in 2014 either
How are they going to launch shit into space when they run out of oil?
Are there any researches into that?
>>45477189
Well, for one, there has been little innovation in spaceflight for decades.
For it to be interesting to me at this point, either some new kind of drive must be invented, or there must be some (manned) mission beyond the moon. Neither is likely to happen in my lifetime, the way things are going on the ground.
What do you prefer?
Physical
On Screen
or Capacitive buttons?
please specify why you don't like the others.
I don't care. I do care about what my phone runs though. Which is why I'm using a candy bar dumb phone Nokia 220 and ditched my snooping, tracking smart phone.
>>45475141
I would love a phone that;
-calls / texts
-has google maps
-has a decent sized screen to view maps
-has some other apps
-has a slide out keyboard
-is small
:(
On screen, customization and thinner bezels trump all
Capacitive annoy the shit out of me, physicals nice but not great either
What programs do you usually install on the first day after installing a new OS?
>>45471993
ubisoft Uplay, EaOrigins
Uhh, Firefox I guess? OSX has pretty much everything I need out of the box.
800 fucking java updates
Daily reminder to
>pacman -Syu
>>45478959
Also, remember to
>sudo pacman -S bsd-games
>echo "Snt" | rot13
>pacman -syu
>installing updates
>power outtage
>turn on PC
>it's all fucked
Moral of the story: make sure you don't lose power while updating.
>System breaks
>They don't want to fuck Shinobu

depends on how old she is
>>45482590
She's like 500 years old.
Sup /g/?
Is Ubuntu a solid distro to install? If not, what makes it trash? If so, what are its strengths?
I'm running Crunchbang at the moment and am considering reformatting to Ubuntu.
>>45480860
yes ubuntu is fine. some people don't like unity, but there are several other desktops available (kubuntu, lubuntu, etc..). it was strongly criticised for its integration of the amazon search integration but that can be disabled. tons of available software and every dumb question has been asked before on some forum.
>>45480860
1. Ubuntu has native Amazon integration
2. Other distros don't have native Amazon integration
(1,2) => Ubuntu is the superior distro
Q.E.D.
>>45482063
Do you realize you can remove any hint of Amazon integration with two simple steps?
Your chance to get in early

Itt old and obsolete technology that make you moist.

Dumb terminals. I have several, but wouldn't turn down more.
Used my tape deck just the other day to load software to my Apple IIe.

why does everyone have this exact background
http://arstechnica.com/business/2014/12/gangnam-style-overflows-int_max-forces-youtube-to-go-64-bit/
Although it's no longer 2012, apparently people are still watching the YouTube video for Korean pop star Psy's smash hit song Gangnam Style.
The irritatingly catchy tune has racked up so many views that Google has been forced to upgrade YouTube's infrastructure to cope. When YouTube was first developed, nobody ever imagined that a video would be watched more than 2 billion times, so the view count was stored using a signed 32-bit integer.
The...

Should be signed int, but whatever.
>>45465643
in the picture i mean
Why on earth did they choose signed int? Did they expect negative view counts? Fucking retards.
How do we fix AMD?
>>45462988
copy intel
Let nVidia buy it so nVidia can make real CPUs to fight Intel :)
You can't fix a loser company and their fans that only think about low prices and not the health of the company
Premium companies like Apple, Intel and Nvidia are thriving while AMD is going bankrupt
You are all a bunch of lying little shits.
I just got a Macbook Pro and it is clearly superior.
This is not a shill thread or a troll thread. This is a OS X customization thread, the only itch I have from my Linux days that still needs scratching.
>ITT post your riced OS X desktops and your customization efforts in an overwhelming display of superiority that will hopefully inspire the wretched masses.
>>45464541
>going from linux to mac
well of course it's superior. it's run by a company that hires people based on experience and merrit, not a community that lets just anyone throw their bit of code in.
just wait 'til you try windows!
>>45464541
>hurr my laptop is shiny and expensive it must be good!
No

>it's run by a company that hires people based on experience and merrit, not a community that lets just anyone throw their bit of code in.
Implying that this is how development works...
>implying there isn't a code audit followed by a accept/reject phase when sending patches
ITT: Abandoned software

>xfce
>abandoned
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Man, why is development so slow for this? XFCE is by far my favourite DE on linux due to its lightweight no bullshit approach. Are there any worthy successors in sight?
>>45464016
vsync has been broken in xfce's compositor for... well, forever.
I have $1200 and I need a ultrabook for school that isn't going to fall apart in 6 months like my last HP piece of shit. Something with a good trackpad, good keyboard and not plastic.
Last year everyone was jerking off to the 2013 Macbook Air. has it been dethroned or should I just get the 13 inch 2014?
I have a gaming desktop, so I won't be gaming on it, but I want something that will be fast for small things like Firefox and LibreOffice, so I'd prefer an SSD over a HDD.
>>45465961
Thinkpad
>>45465961
Buy a Chromebook Pixel that's a real edgy machine. All Mac-fags will be extremely jealous.
>>45465972
I'll be using it for school, so I don't want something that's 20kg and 4 inches thick.
Evening /g/ents,
trying to fix a external hard drive right now.
As there is no vital data on it (except some porn I made w/ my ex), I opened it up and turned it on while open to see what exactly happens.
The head moves onto the platter just fine, then reaches the middle and moves back to the starting position. It repeats this process while also producing a short beep every time.
Anyone seen this kind of behaviour in a HD and any idea what it might be caused by?
For clarification, I already googled the problem extensively but all I can find is guides on...

Fucking disgusting. Who the fuck finds sticks like those attractive. Idk if its the retardedly long heels making them look extra lanky but they look like they couldn't survive a fall from a second floor window.
Who are those, slenderman's daughters?
>>45465553
Not OP, but muh dick finds them attractive.
