This is seriously the best distro
>semi-rolling release (certainly more rolling than AUR)
>custom (read: better) debian repos
>no iceweasel autism
>no multimedia codec autism
>no bloat
>it just werks and is still very customizable
>great cinnamon integration if you like that DE, which you should
How is it more rolling than AUR? Dont you need to upgrade mint every new release?
>>45689835
It's based on debian testing, which is rolling
They're using snapshots of debian testing to make sure no broken shit gets in
AUR is very slow since package maintainer tend to be retarded and use fixed version numbers in their build scripts. Usually those shitty packages don't get updated unless somebody requests it or something breaks
MATE or Cinnamon?
So why don't you own a God tier laptop yet /g/?
I have an Asus ux31a.

How many of you have a raspberry pi?
And what are you using it for?
Mine is running samba+apache server and a torrent client.
Best investment ever.
I further wish to automate torrent downloads, like running a script that automatically looks for episodes of series that i'm watching when they come out and automatically downloads them. Is there such a script already out there?
Also gonna control the lights in my room through some relays and wireless modules and controlling them through a webpage through apache server. Currently waiting on said...

I don't have one yet, however I am looking at getting one to make a touchscreen stereo for my car with easy streaming music and videos to/from my phone. Auto downloading podcasts when I pull into my driveway and connect to WiFi etc...
transmission-daemon and flexget, you can thank me later
>>45688721
i saw this video.

Might help.
>>45688732
I'm already running transmisison-daemon. Thanks for suggesting me flexget. Seems like the thing i was looking for.
Have you tried other torrent clients? Deluge seemed like a better option than transmission in many websites that compared the two.
>mfw i try to submit a screenshot of my rMBP's full resolution and /g/ doesn't even support it
Maybe the board is running on a dedicated Thinkpad? :^)

OP this is /g/ not /lgbt/. Post technology or get out.
I want to learn Linux/GNU etc but there is something I don't understand.
Why do people go out of their way to make Linux look so complicated and useless? I don't fucking get it, I looked through the desktop thread and I found ONE decent picture, rest was just bullshit with lots of unnecessary rice shit. I was always under the impression that Linux users were after the "simple and elegant" user interface.
Look at this, this is the picture I found to be good and I'm trying to make mine look the same.
tl,dr why do freetards try so...

Because the desktop thread doesn't represent the majority of linux users. Are you stupid?
>>45693005
NEET ricers on /g/ != Linux users
Selection bias. Most desktop thread posters are ricers, because why would you post an unriced desktop?
It's okay if it's shitty edition!
Post your battlestation/workstations

Why don't women study CS?
because when they do people often say
>oh wow that must be really hard
with the implicit
>for a woman to do something in STEM
usually left unsaid.

I'm planning on going for my CCNA early 2015; any suggestions on what kinds of things I'll need to grab off ebay to have a solid homelab to work on? Is it worth spending the extra cash for a 3xxx series switch or can I stick with the 2950 for now? thoughts one way or the other on the 1841 vs the 2611(xm)?
any and all network stuff goes here I guess
I did mine recently. Coming from a non-existent IT background apart from gaming and browsing the net.
You can do almost everything at CCNA level on the cisco packet tracer. Switches are cool to have for that hands on obviously, but you dont really need them.
Exam dumps are goat for passing the test.
An 1841 from ebay would be great for learning cios.

Question: how big a budget do you need to develop something like Fallout? Assuming at least one free programmer (that being me).
Also, you can talk about general game development in here.
>>45676275
try writing the *Underrail* guy
Assuming you're the only person working on it and you already have all the equipment you need, consider how long it would take to develop it and also how much money you need to live on.
That's your budget.
$0 if you can do everything yourself like real game developers back in the old days did.
Yet another reason today's gabillion dollar big budget movie "games" are garbage.
