HOLY FUCK
Hardly fucked. One city having 10 gigabit fiber doesn't make it any less awesome that other cities have 1 gigabit. It's their local cable company that's fucked.
Google isn't running Google Fiber as a serious competitive service. It's just doing it to see what kind of content and services it could provide in a community/environment/world where most/all people have Internet fast enough to make speeds not a practical issue.

IPS or TN?
If you aren't already on linux you get ~2 hours extra battery life with tlp.
I'm installing arch linux alongside existing windows
hope this shit doesn't blow up in my face
>>45763667
just make sure to backup anything important, because if you don't do everything right the first time there is a possibility you'll have problems. Follow the wiki and you should be fine, but backups should be regularly done to deal with user error anyway.

HAHAHAHAHA
So what's the beef with OS X anyway? It's built on Unix, which means it can do most of the things Linux can do, in addition to having more software support and looking better. It is proprietary and nonfree, and that will turn many of you away, but if you look past that its quite great pragmatically.
Before I was under the impression that since it officially required Apple products it was pretty shitty, but recently I've hackintoshed and I've seen the light.
>having more software support
Means shit if there's no hardware support.
>>45760032
The hackintosh support isnt bad at all
Poor people tend to be bitter. It doesn't help that half this board is autismic neck beard neo-libertarians.
If you want free as in Libre and beer UNIX, you should use FreeBSD.
So /g/ I am getting a 12TB NAS in the mail soon, andI don't know what to store on it.
I want to have a bunch of archival shit on it, like movies,music,4chan posts, comics, whatever.
Where do I start? Do I just download each movie/4chan comic/music/posts/ one by one and it builds up?
Or is there like a site for massive files filled with assorted stuff
pls help /g/

help
Download the entire Wikipedia.
I have become slightly obsessed with my online security lately.
I threw out skype for Jitsi,
I downloaded pic related though now i hear it's not secure anymore (alternatives?) I've been looking for alternatives to whatsapp messenger and my email (I hear protonmail is secure?)
I have also been looking at email encryption software that you can just integrate into your email.
Any recommendations for this kind of software or tips about staying "safe" online?
Cheers Folks.
You can't be safe no matter what you do.
They probably have the best hackers and control of the internet. It's basically impossible to guard against it. What you should focus on rather than privacy is freedom. Use software that gives you the most freedom such as firefox over chrome etc.
There's no such thing as being safe on the internet
Tor is secure enough for most things you'll be doing.
All these people saying nothing is truly safe are correct, but only in the way that you're never truly safe from being struck by lightning or being hit by a car.
Idiots with no sense of probability or proportion have become obsessed with achieving impossible 100% security.

Also, Manjaro sucks and I can't wait to go back to XFCE on Xubuntu.
Post basic specs

And what you use it for

Windows Server 2008

Acer ultrabook from 2010, broken display (I control it with ssh), 4gb of ram, 320 HDD, c2d ulv.
I use it for file backups with rsync, remote surveillance with motion+dropbox, media player (HDMI to TV screen), sharing files with my roommates, torrents, occasionally host a local minecraft server.
Thinking about installing owncloud
Asus Chromebox (Celeron, 2GB, 16 GB mSATA SSD)
Linux Mint 17
I use the four USB 3.0 ports to connect all the external HDDs I used to plug into my laptop and have it serve samba for muh network drives and plex for muh chromecast.
I also use it as a network bridge to get around client isolation restrictions on the shitty wifi provided by my building. The internal wireless card connects to the building wifi, and then I connect my own router to the chromebox by ethernet and have the chromebox share its internet connection.
What are you doing on Christmas Eve, /g/? Are you being cozy? Spending time with family or alone?
Shitposting, why?
Also alone... very alone.
Ate dinner with family, they went to visit some relatives
Drinking mulled wine and listening to music, its pretty cozy. Shame only 2 cigarettes left and all the shops are closed

As awesome as that'd be, imagine someone filling that shaft with cement whilst you slept.
Ok so now the interview is available on Google play and YouTube
As much as I think this is a stupid fucking movie, you guys need to rent it FOR THE SOLE REASON BEING THE REPERCUSSIONS
every fucking movie studio is watching this move, if the interview makes more money on YouTube than what was projected, we will open the flood gates for every movie to be released on YouTube
Sony, you literally put rootkits on CDs to hijack their computers if they tried to copy your music. Go eat a million barrels of rotting moose penises.
>tfw not available in united kingdom of great britbongistan

Rented it earlier already
First time posting my guts. Old thread was nearing limit anyhow.
