Hi /g/
I'm in China and I need to do shit with google apps, normally I just vpn through and it's cool.
Today is different. Yesterday was a bit different too. I think it's partly because I'm in a suburb with shitloads of overseas Chinese and partly just because someone somewhere came up with a new way to fuck with VPNs. The firewall is very decentralised, different ISPs, cities and even suburbs can have different stuff blocking/attacking VPNs and it's under active development so shit changes day to day; the internet has weather here.
Yesterday,...

It's probably obvious but when it comes to VPNs, I usually roll my own rather than buying commercial subscriptions.
Anyone have anything to say about Quicktun? I wonder if it might be obscure enough to not be automatically detected? I'm not doing anything interesting enough to warrant someone actually monitoring and blocking me specifically.
This is what it looks like on my server when I try to connect using PPTP:

I know shit about vpns and the great Wall. but wouldn't port 80 still work?
Is this the future you chose? Please make it stop.
>>47729563
No it's not the future I chose but I'm glad something is replacing PHP and Apache because I'm sick and anything new is welcome
>>47729563
What are the top two?
So why are they so good /g/?
Function over form.

because IBMfags?
no idea. probably because they are tanks. never used one but have seen them from a far and wondered what my life would be like with a stinkpad.
I have $5000 to spend on something ridiculous.
Post some gadgets.
dragon dildos
Spend it on your retirement.
You did ask for something ridiculous. Saving for the future is pretty rediculous nowadays.
$5000 goes a long way to not spending the last years of your life in misery.
Spend $400 on a thinkpad and some anime merch.
Save the rest for a rainy day.
Never really visited this board before but what do you guys think of Apple? The general consensus by the tech savvy is that they're overpriced pieces of shit with nice casing.
The rest like it because they look good in a cafe or in a lecture theatre. To be honest, I've never heard a legitimate argument as to why people prefer Macs.
Personally I'd like to know the arguments for and against them. What are your thoughts?
I despise Macs
I love iPhones
I'm getting an Apple watch even though this board hates them. (Just placed the order minutes ago)
People on /g/ generally hate anything Apple though. In recent years, I have noticed that people dislike it less though. If you mention Apple on /a/ or /v/ they will go nuts telling you to kill yourself and it's not as bad here.

Very high build quality, pleb-tier OS, overpriced. As least that's my opinion.
Can you think of examples of technology that directly attempt to emulate fictional technology seen in Science Fiction works? Among them, how many of them actually became successful products?
I suppose Google Glass and other VR stuff are among the few actual examples, and even then the claim is somewhat controversial.
There are plenty of examples of fictional descriptions of technology preceding the actual tech: easily going back to Jules Verne's submarines. But usually it's not very scientific nor practical to emulate fiction.

Interesting! Are there any instances you can think of where the creator/lead developer directly states that they were attempting to emulate something that they saw, or read in fiction?
why do your questions read as if it were taken from an homework assignment ?
Anyone here have (or currently doing) a degree in Mechanical Engineering?
Can you tell me if you guys study structural mechanics at all, and if so in how much depth? Did you do stuff like trusses (pic related), stress analysis, moment of inertia, deflections, loading capacity, moment distribution method, shrinkage stresses, etc at all? If none of that sounds familiar, what did you do instead to calculate that something can withstand the forces it needs to?
I'm thinking of transferring from structural to mechanical engineering and wondering if any of what I've...

>Hey anon can you help me with my car?
>>47700840
all of that is taught in Mechanical Engineering
>>47700865
Seriously all of it? Great!
Is it a lot different with moving parts? Structures don't move so I've never done anything like that, but I imagine it might be pretty similar with maybe just one or two new things to learn... hopefully
My neighbor has set up a security camera peering into my backyard (confirmed deliberately to record me)
What's a cheap way of disabling it?
I'm thinking of shining an IR light into it or something
>>47703509
>What's a cheap way of disabling it?
depending on your country and phone contract either call the police or write them an email. thats illegal in every civilized country
Go over to his house and wave a gun in his face if you aren't a weenie.
Set up a camera as well and try getting a good tan.
I'm going to buy a router or a WIFI-router for my new apartment. Im thinking buying Asus or TP-Link, or something under 60 €/70 $USD with AC ability. What are the best routers for general networking that have nice UI and don't brick themselfs alot (we had ZyXel Wifi-router that overheated to point of no return)
I have looked following models: Asus RT-AC51U Dual-Band (AC750)
TP-Link Archer C2 (AC750)
In the past i have had bad feels with D-link and ZyXel boxes.
Also genral networking thread as none found.
>>47706545
OPhere, i have 100/100 MB connection in the apartment, so AC might not be required?
>>47706545
stay away from the ASUS line. i shilled them for years in consumer electronics until my 3rd personal one burned out.
100/100 at home calls for n300 at most, AC is still pretty nascent in terms of consumer devices using it properly + even if you run "AC" on your device you'd need a shitton of antennae/spatial streams to get the speeds nd the feed to satiate ur needz u feels
source: i work wireless w/ cis scum
>>47706642
So, N then propably. Would you recom Dual-band or "single", whats the practical difference, TP or something else.
talk me out of buying 16gbs of ram even though I won't be doing video editing

I'm looking for a burning LASER.
Something I can light tinder / matches / candles with.
Are they sold on Amazon? (I only ask because I happen to need one for very particular reason, but a relative gave me an Amazon gift certificate).
>>47705144
Use the laser inside any DVD writer.
>>47705161
is there a diy guide for this?
>>47705211
Seconded.
Why don't we have this

whats the best laptop for programmers?
what do you think is important for programmer laptops?
i want to buy a new laptop, tired of my old thinkpad.
>>47702678
>whats the best laptop for programmers?
Whatever you can afford.
Depends what kind of programming, obviously.
In most cases programming does not require a powerful system, so focus on the build and look because that's all that will matter.
Screen size, quality.
Keyboard quality and type.
> Apple fags will defend this
Why do you need more than one port for browsing Facebook?
>not connecting wirelessly
>>47707249
I don't think you understand
Now that there are no ports on the macbook ports have become depreciated in the whole industry
You don't need ports anymore. Its le innovashiun at work

All that for only 47W total
Not gonna lie that's pretty sick holmes

That's not nowhere near mid bro.
It's pretty impressive but that still looks like dog shit,
That looks like san andreas now
