How did I do /g/?
$600 bucks on this Netbook, I'm rather content with it.
My biggest compliant is shitty drivers in the trackpad, but aside from that rather stable

Ugh. 1366x768. Why. How big is this laptop? Screen size I mean. Anything over 12 inches at that resolution looks like trash. Also
Not even once. Every Acer I've ever had the misfortune of working on was a chinsy piece of shit. Terrible plastic. Even worse construction. Used to overheat like no one's business.
This was based off of a $500 best buy special several years ago. Have they gotten any better?
If not for that screen resolution or it being Acer, not bad. What cpu is it?
What would /g/ do with a 15 year old PC?
I've been thinking about removing windows xp and putting a linux distro on it but i'm stuck from there on out. It has a 2.66ghz pentium 4, 512mb ram and an 80GB hard drive.
I have an old webcam? Are there any off the shelf programs that could turn it into a home security system?

Question for iFriends:
What iPad should I get my dad for Christmas? I literally know nothing about iPads.
Before I get greentexted back to the stoneage, he uses iPhone and I assume there's an account you can share across the 2.
What Linux distro should I run in a VM under VMware Workstation on Windows?
I've run Ubuntu for years (on a couple of servers and in VMs). Lately, it's kind of shit, though. Ubuntu Unity fucks everything up, I can't run in VMware's Unity (worst naming clash ever), I had to manually patch VMware tools to get shared folders working, etc.
VMware's documentation says:
>For Linux guests and hosts, verify that a modern version of Metacity or KDE is installed.
Ideally, I'd like:
* 3D acceleration

I'm seeing various people suggesting xfce online for use with VMware Unity. But how can xfce be compatible with VMware Unity?
Am I misunderstanding something? Is xfce built on Gnome or KDE?
So what mug do you use /g/
So what's the verdict on these?
