I accidentally deleted the company's VM holding an important database. Latest backup is 2 months old. How screwed am I? How do I even tell my boss about this? I thinking of not even showing up to work tomorrow.
You do have support right? You should be calling them like now
If you think you could be sued or even criminally charged you should talk to a lawyer

Installing Fedora for a mate, what DE should I give him?
MATE, obviously.
>>51270189
i3 or awesome if he's competent.
Mate if he's not.
Gnome if you hate him.
do you hate him or something?
why would you pick the worst distro?
Help Stallman get to his precious GNU/Linux before BSD kills it alive!

It's too /g/ related for /b/, but just for a little laugh, note how the board name letters are the same as GNU and BSD.
Also, this is kind of what I come to 4chan for, as opposed to the mailing lists and forums that specifically pertain to OSes, or slashdot (an older and specifically tech related news/letshaveflamewars website, have lurked a little but never posted there).
The logo at the boot process of a gamecube/ ps2 is coming from the BIOS, correct? If I want to eliminate the ability to play games and just want to work on developing my own bios to access the hardware like a normal computer, I just need to bypass the current BIOS chip with a modchip correct? Please help me understand this.

Can a language possibly be any more /reddit/ than pic related?
>>51270028
If Python is reddit, then 4chan is C. Because it's a dying meme.
>>51270028
Reddit was written in Common Lisp for the first couple of years, so it'd have to be that.
Tried python for the first time the other day to do some sqlite stuff.
Fell in love.
Had been doing java, javascript and some other stuff before that.
Help /g/. My computer isn't turning on. I took it to a LAN party on Friday where it was working fine but ever since it's been having problems. Started with video crashes that forced me to shut down my pc if I wanted to use it again. Thought it was my gpu so I switched from DVI to HDMI and tried reseating, didn't do shit. Tried removing my gpu altogether, didn't do shit. Tried messing with my RAM too, took one stick out, put the other in a different dimm slot, again nothing. Tried with both sticks.
Now the computer will turn on, case fans will spin...

power supply too weak?
>>51270406
Nope. 650w for a single gpu build. Built it a little over a year ago.

Who /budget phone/ here?
I just bought pic related, the Moto G 4G from swappa for $90. Basically my Nexus 5 is so crap that I cannot bear to use it anymore. The power button doesn't work, screen is cracked and chipped to hell, phone dies after 10 minutes off the charger. I basically just needed a cheap phone to hold me over until my birthday.
So anyone else use a cheap phone?
I have an lg volt I was able to buy for $60 after black friday. Yes, a cdma phone but it has a quad-core A7 cpu, 1gb ram, lte + lte spark, and micro sd slot. plenty enough for me.
>buying a meme phone
>>51269959
Nice, I was thinking of getting a Moto X Pure edition for my birthday, but if I really end up liking the moto g then maybe I'll just stick with it.
I was doing my own thing on Rosetta Stone, when all of a sudden I got a message saying that I have used 100% or 300gb of my internet data, I have used xfinity internet for years, and it has always been unlimited, what is up with this?
I got the same popup on my xbox browser, not too long ago, but that time it said 99% used.
I'm already paying a lot for internet, what the fuck Comcast, they've always tried to cheat us out of money!
HAIL HAIL FREEDONIA
Because jews.
Also secretly it could be this is some plot to reduce piracy since you can only download like 20 HQ movies before you use up 300gb.
>>51269845
American internet sucks...
other countries get better service, and cheaper!
Hey g,
help me buy a laptop. I'm looking for a good 15,6 inch laptop. What laptop would you buy if you would spend 1500 or 2000 or 2500 dollars? The hp Omen? Msi gs60 Ghost? The asus G501? The aorus X5? The alienware 15? Another one? What SSD and screen would you want? 128gb, 256gb, 512gb? 2k, 3k, 4k? Would you want a glary screen? What videocard would you want? Etc Etc.

Fuckin' aussies ruined the pre-sequel
>there are people ITT running proprietary backdoored firmware on their routers
Why aren't you running OpenWRT?
It works on every router that isn't shit so you have no excuse.
If you can't SSH into your router, it's not a router.
It's a black box that sends packets, and you're not in control of those packets.
>>51269708
How do I install it?
>>51269741
The same way you upgrade firmware on your router.
I installed OpenWRT on my TP-Link wireless router. Now when the wireless interface locks up I can just restart the interface instead of having the whole webUI become unresponsive and having to hard reset.
You really should not have root access over SSH enabled. Especially on a router. Make a user account with a really strong password, then use su to elevate when you log in. This makes it much harder to bruteforce and can really save your ass later on.
The state of the VPN market. Who's good, who's bad. Who still works behind the great firewall and who will be the choice of the citizens of Airstrip One?
Is a VPN enough to prevent my isp from bugging me about torrenting? Should I try to pay for the VPN anonymously?
I was thinking about getting a seedbox and private trackers but it seemed like too much effort.
>>51270267
desu just use the encryption. Any first world torrenting software should have it
Not many have it forced. They just have it to be preferred.
>>51270299
any idea what VPNs still work in China? Supposedly the new machine learning approach taken since sept has rendered quite a few useless.
Are smartwatches worth it in any way if price isn't really a concern?
If so, which one should I get? I have a Nexus 6 and will prolly upgrade to the new Nexus 5.
>>51269639
>upgrade to a nexus 5
Upgrading means you get better specs. The nexus 5x is worse than the 6 in every department except for the camera.
>>51269733
Meant the 5x, my bad.
>>51269639
Eh, I've got one and it's nifty. Sometimes I really enjoy it, other times I feel like I could have spent the money more wisely. If you really want one then go for it. If your on the fence then you probably shouldn't.
What are you using on your servers anons? Which is in your opinion the best for a productive maschine?
ubuntu vs. debian vs. centos vs. arch
>>51269542
Windows Server
I use Debian on my primary server (web, irc, ftp, ssh, git, seedbox, etc.) but I use OpenBSD for my mail server.
>>51269542
I use arch with SELinux kernel on my main server. It hosts a Rails server and a ftp. Also a virtualized arch inside that hosts ssh so I can have a unix system ready whenever I need one
